To follow the King is drop dead easy.

But to do so you have to become a new wineskin and only put new wine into yourself. That's hard for many because they desire old wine.

The hard part is in the person, not without.

We ARE new wine skins when we ARE saved pom. The Holy Spirit is the new wine that takes the place of the old law. We don't put anything into ourselves.

Stan,

I'm learning that already and who some of them are. Sadly, people don't seem to want to see what they are doing to prohibit logical, reasonable, accessible (can I think of any more adjectives?) conversation.

How has the Easter weekend been in Calgary? Do you have public holidays for Friday and Monday? We've had such a lot of rain in the last fortnight and my garden lawn is becoming jungle-like. It calls for a mowing this afternoon.

In Christ,
Oz

Yes, Good Friday is a stat holiday in Alberta and I believe most of Canada if not all.
My middle son's daughter is just 18 months so this is her first real Easter and she has had a ball. Too much Easter bunny stuff for my liking but at that age it's all cuteness and fun I guess.

Sadly we have a skiff of new snow on the ground, so NOT what I was looking forward to as far as Easter weekend weather.

Thanks, Stan,

What a delightful photo of your grand-daughter. Imagine the challenges 14 years from now?

I got the lawn mowed and the yard looks so much brighter. We are able to put grass clippings in wheelies here in north Brisbane (Moreton Bay Regional Council). We couldn't do that where we last lived and had to accumulate them to take to the dump (or bush down the road).

I'm hoping to send my last hypothesis to my supervisor today. It will be a day of reading and editing. At least the weather here is cooling off. Our temp range today is 21-29C but there is a 60% chance of rain.

We have to accept the new wine and place faith into it.

Part of that acceptance means showing the wine is in there. Fruits of the change.

But sadly when many on Christendom can't even follow the ONLY TWO commands given by the King, it's hard to not see their fruit and see old wine still being drunk.

Sorry pom this is confusing.... the new wine is the Holy Spirit and the bible clearly tells us how we know the Holy Spirit has filled us. Acts 2:4

Faith is already in our lives if we accept Jesus, it is NOT a result of accepting Jesus.

They weren't the ONLY two, they are the two on which all the law hinges.....not the same thing. Matt 22:40

Brother Stan, if you want warmer Canadian weather throughout most of the year, you'll need to locate closer to Vancouver. I went to college for a short time at Summit Pacific College, between Abbotsford & Mission BC. This was only about 1.5 hours from Vancouver - up the Fraser Valley.

Perhaps you'll need to wait another month to see the snow clear.

Yes I know Oz....remember I told you I lived in the GVRD for almost 17 years. I have some very close friends in Abbotsford.

We were born with faith. But is it well placed faith? Not always.

Jesus often spoke whatever a man place faith into that he'll have. Place it in this world he'll have that, but what good is a fouled up sinful world?

We place faith into and we'll have that. It takes US to accept. Without it we won't get grace. Because we deny it. We place faith in ourselves and not Jesus, we'll get only that faith. And it's not worth anything.

The Bible says faith cones by hearing, and hearing by the word of God (romans 10:17) AND you can't hear without a preacher (romans 10:14).

And that's where the order of Levi was continued.

Only the clerics have the word. Back to the holy of holies.

New order new way. This is why christendom has gone astray.

The Holy Spirit is in us. That is God and that is the Word.

Of course it didn't make sense you think only a cleric can give you The Word of God.

The rabbis in Jesus time also held the word from the people.

Its not just for clergy.

I think if you read ALL of Rom 10, you will see the full formula, if you will. You really have to read all of the following to get the proper context and message Paul is conveying. Those who don't have faith won't or can't believe but those that do have faith, can or should believe It is still their choice.

But what does it say? “The word is near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart,” that is, the message concerning faith that we proclaim: 9 If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved. 11 As Scripture says, “Anyone who believes in him will never be put to shame.” 12 For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile—the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him, 13 for, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”
14 How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? 15 And how can anyone preach unless they are sent? As it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!”
16 But not all the Israelites accepted the good news. For Isaiah says, “Lord, who has believed our message?” 17 Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ. 18 But I ask: Did they not hear? Of course they did:

“Their voice has gone out into all the earth, their words to the ends of the world.”

Of course its not just for the clergy. Who said otherwise? But it is the job of the ministry to GIVE it. There are other verses that state this in one way or another. There is also a historical aspect to this. Personally I don't think it matters (the Bible still holds true today in every word). But in all fairness I do have to acknowledge it.

As for the other scripture, I'll give them to you, but I doubt you'll listen. Paul spoke of it at least 5 other times, but I get the impression that you don't put much stock into what Paul says.
StanJ, sorry but I'm not going to bother with you. If you want to think its because I don't have an answer, go ahead and believe that. But you and I ain't gonna play nice. Past history shows that and certain language in your reply shows me it will continue.

No offense meant, I'm just not going to brother with someone I can't have a cordial conversation with. I'm not even putting all the blame on you.

America and the World have everything backwards when it comes to Jesus' commandments to his disciples and to all Christians. I will give some scriptural examples to support this truth.

Jesus said not to call any man father, like the Catholics do.

"And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven." Matthew 23:9

Jesus said not to pray with vain repetition, as the Catholics do with their many "Hail Mary's" prayers.

"But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking." Matthew 6:7

Jesus said to never swear at all, for any reason. This includes vows, oaths, and pledges to anything or anyone, like the pledge of allegiance or the oaths to defend the constitution. All such things are not of the Christian way.

"33Again, ye have heard that it hath been said by them of old time, Thou shalt not forswear thyself, but shalt perform unto the Lord thine oaths: 34But I say unto you, Swear not at all; neither by heaven; for it is God's throne: 35Nor by the earth; for it is his footstool: neither by Jerusalem; for it is the city of the great King. 36Neither shalt thou swear by thy head, because thou canst not make one hair white or black. 37But let your communication be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil." Matthew 5:33-37

These are Jesus' commandments, and He said those who love him will keep his commandments.

"If ye love me, keep my commandments." John 14:15

Now we get on with the real controversial stuff.

The New Testament literally means "New Covenant", and it is written for Christians to follow. Covenant is a synonym of Testament. The Old Testament means "Old Covenant," and it was written for the Jews. The Bible says the Old Covenant has been made obsolete.

"In that he saith, A new covenant, he hath made the first old. Now that which decayeth and waxeth old is ready to vanish away." Hebrews 8:13

The only part of the Old Testament that Jesus upheld in His teachings were the ten commandments.

"17And when he was gone forth into the way, there came one running, and kneeled to him, and asked him, Good Master, what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life? 18And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God. 19Thou knowest the commandments, Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Defraud not, Honour thy father and mother. 20And he answered and said unto him, Master, all these have I observed from my youth." Mark 10:17-20

This same man in the above passage was also a rich man, and lacking in compassion for others, refused to follow Jesus' commandments for him to sell all he has and give to the poor, and then he will have treasure in heaven. Jesus also said it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than it is for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.

"21Then Jesus beholding him loved him, and said unto him, One thing thou lackest: go thy way, sell whatsoever thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, take up the cross, and follow me. 22And he was sad at that saying, and went away grieved: for he had great possessions.

23And Jesus looked round about, and saith unto his disciples, How hardly shall they that have riches enter into the kingdom of God! 24And the disciples were astonished at his words. But Jesus answereth again, and saith unto them, Children, how hard is it for them that trust in riches to enter into the kingdom of God! 25It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God. 26And they were astonished out of measure, saying among themselves, Who then can be saved? 27And Jesus looking upon them saith, With men it is impossible, but not with God: for with God all things are possible." Mark 10:21-27

This same calling applies to all rich people living today, they must give their wealth to the poor and only then can they pick up their cross and follow Jesus. For the Bible said the love of money is the root of all evil.

"For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows." 1 Timothy 6:10

And now we have the most controversial doctrine of Christianity of all.

"And the soldiers likewise demanded of him (John the Baptist), saying, And what shall we do? And he said unto them, Do violence to no man, neither accuse any falsely; and be content with your wages." Luke 3:14

Jesus taught to love our enemies, bless those who curse us, pray for those who hate us, and to do good to those that hate us. This includes ISIS terrorists, because no one hates us more than they. Ask yourself what would Jesus do about ISIS? Jesus did not kill his enemies, and neither did his disciples, many of whom were martyred for their faith. Jesus loved his enemies, and loving your enemies is the hardest part of true Christianity, because true Christianity might cost your life.

"Whosoever shall seek to save his life shall lose it; and whosoever shall lose his life shall preserve it." Luke 17:33

"27But I say unto you which hear, Love your enemies, do good to them which hate you, 28Bless them that curse you, and pray for them which despitefully use you. 29And unto him that smiteth thee on the one cheek offer also the other; and him that taketh away thy cloke forbid not to take thy coat also. 30Give to every man that asketh of thee; and of him that taketh away thy goods ask them not again. 31And as ye would that men should do to you, do ye also to them likewise. 32For if ye love them which love you, what thank have ye? for sinners also love those that love them. 33And if ye do good to them which do good to you, what thank have ye? for sinners also do even the same. 34And if ye lend to them of whom ye hope to receive, what thank have ye? for sinners also lend to sinners, to receive as much again. 35But love ye your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing again; and your reward shall be great, and ye shall be the children of the Highest: for he is kind unto the unthankful and to the evil. 36Be ye therefore merciful, as your Father also is merciful." Luke 6:27-36

"Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves." Matthew 10:16

True Christianity in its purest form is almost impossible to follow. It is by far the hardest thing a person will ever do in their life. Faith alone will not save you, because faith without works is dead.

"For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also." James 2:26

If you truly have faith in God, you will try your hardest to keep his commandments to the best of your ability, knowing it is not possible to be perfect but it is something we should strive for all our lives.
"Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect." Matthew 5:48

God bless you all.
<< America and the World have everything backwards when it comes to Jesus' commandments to his disciples and to all Christians. >>

Is that a surprise? There have always been the people of God and the people of the world, the line of Seth and the line of Cain, the Church and the pagans. Nothing new there. America is pagan; the favorite gods here are Mammon and Molech.

<< Jesus said not to call any man father, like the Catholics do. >>

Jesus said not to judge another man's servant like you Protestants do. You also take Jesus' words out of context and make ignorant and false accusations against your brothers and sisters in Christ so you can garner the favor of other ignorant Catholic-bashers. Nothing new there either.
