(For some unusual reasons, I actually believe that the same passage in the bible can be interpreted in fifty other ways...)This one is for the Parable of the tenant farmers. If Jesus is the "boss"'s son and God is boss, and that the workers are the pharisees or basically anyone working, with skills, in the farmlandand the people that the boss sent is prophets etc.can i also say that...(Jesus is still the boss's son, and the boss is still God)Can I say that the prophets etc. are signs or mircles or testimonies around our lives to remind us that God is seeking us?... (to use our gift to serve God but not beating up or ignoring or denying the signs that reminds us God's presence)Gah, this is the very very first thread and post in this forum and I am intimidated... by this forum for some unknown reasons.

It does seem that way many times

That is one reason for so many denominations out there....we just cant agree on what certain passages are saying. For the most part we just do our best and try to give each other patience where we disagree (other than destructive/dangerous teachings which have to be dealt with, harshly if necessary)

Well, I guess that is one way to look at it.Obviously the prophets were sent to turn Israel back to God, so in a way in our own lives if you wanted to apply the parable to modern day life, it makes an interesting analogy.Jesus had something in mind as He spoke, for sure, but scripture can speak to us all on so many levels that its hard for one of us to look at you and outright reject what you are seeing because for all we know the Lord might be sharing something with you personally in the matter.

The Lord is wonderful and if we keep in His word and prayer He can open the mind and spirit to His word in ways the carnal mind cannot imagine.I cant remember how many times a passage as caught my eye and at first it seemed so one dimensional but over a bit of time it started to open up and reveal something far more wonderful than I had first thought possible. Some of the most basic things in scripture have so much more to them when God is showing us their fullness.

Don't be intimidated, there are loads of good folk here who are keen Christians, no worries. Bible texts are very, very often interpreted to suit the view of the reader/Preacher/hearer. Nothing new about that. There is a guy on TV, one of these TV preacher types from the USA, asks for money every second breath, only he calls it seed planting. (the seeds have to planted in his garden to grow, strange thing that) Claims to have the gift of tongues but needs to hire a trope of interpreters when he goes to India to preach. (strange thing that) This guy rattles out bible texts by the dozen to support his rapture theories. Do some checking, most of the texts he uses do not relate to anything like the thing they are supposed to be proving. You will only get correct understanding by reading the Word and much prayer. The Holy Spirit will teach you about Jesus, that's His job specification. To teach of Him (Jesus). And the HS is pretty good at his work. The constant prayer of the truth seeker.Psalm 51:10 Create in me a clean heart oh Lord, and renew a right spirit within me.The clean heart (motivation) is needed in order to see what the HS is teaching, not seeing what I want to see in a particular piece of The Word.

There is a mega-church in my hometown.A few years back he had the ushers literally chain the doors and then said they werent leaving until so much money was raised

Hes definitely one who twists scriptures to make people give more money than they often have to give.I know one dear woman who had brain cancer who another big name TV evangelist convinced to keep given him money and her faith would heal her.She ran her Credit cards up about $50,000 (I believe that was the number she gave me..it was an enormous amount that was about what her husband made in a year) and then dies of the cancer.I was so glad to hear that she had rejected the teaching in the end, but its sad that the end of her life was turned into such a sham that her unbelieving husband had to witness

To MurrayJames and FoC:what is the relevance of the story you two told? I probably don't get it.(subtracting the part about holy spirit, which that part i kind of see what you are saying.)

For myself just saying that you may see something with a bit more clarity in a passage and see how it may apply where its not typically understood as being applicable.

Don't be intimidated by this forum...no one has all the answers. Just ask away and I'm sure you'll get sincere and thoughtful responses! You are right in assuming that Bible passages can be interpreted in many ways. But just remember...it is man trying to interpret the Holy Word of God. That's why we have so many different beliefs and observances among all the various denominations. It's foolish to "pick and choose" single passages to support our views. When I read something that seems confusing or even contradictory to the nature of God, I ask (through prayer) for my heart and mind to be opened to the wisdom and understanding of God's Word.Years ago I was the piano accompanist for the youth choir at my church. Hearing me practice a piano piece, my next door neighbor came to my house to talk to me. She was amazed (and I might add rather upset) that our church praised God with musical instruments. She proceeded in quoting passages from the Bible that supported her denomination's view that musical praise was only vocal...no instruments. So, as I said, picking out single passages to support beliefs simply clouds the issues. We need to see the whole picture in the eyes of God...not man.God's Word is inspired and He chooses different ways to show Himself...literally, parables, comparisons, etc. We can never expect to completely understand, but the Holy Spirit guides us in the right direction.Bless You!

Welcome to CB, Tikikala.I think that's one way of looking at it. However, I do think that God can use prophecies in our modern times, also, to show us what we are supposed to be doing, warn us of what is to come, etc. In that case, it is important that we know God's voice, so that we can know whether or not these are true prophets of God.Remember, the point of the story was for the Pharisees to see that God sent them many prophets so that they could have a chance to repent, but they wouldn't listen. There are many ways that God can reach us; He knows what we need to hear/see to get us to leap into action, and He gives us many chances to repent...There are many different interpretations of Scripture, but by rightly dividing the Word of Truth and praying, we can know (with the help of the HS) what each Scripture means so that we can apply it to our lives.

Tikikala, The Bible is univocal, which means it tells ONE message. Words in Hebrew and Greek are similar to English words, most have more than one meaning. Some words are called counter words, which have many meanings, some even seemingly at odds with other difinitions. Then there is the problem in translation. Any time a translation is made from another language, it is impossible to translate the exact thought.Because some words have several meanings, it a translator does not know God's purposes, he may translate a word inaccurrately, for the text, even though he may be accurately translating the word. There has been so much study of the original languages, that today we accurrately know what the original writers were saying. Almost all the newer Bibles are more accurrate than the older ones because of so much more information having been unearthed by archeologists.
