Yes, with salads, cold meat, or barbecue. Although in New Zealand it often actually rains around Christmas for some reason, never have been able to figure that one out.
Further south in NZ, right? :)

Unless in Australia you guys are facing the Roaring Forties...

No, it often rains across the whole country around December... Even tropical cyclones are known to affect the country at that time. In mid summer. Go figure. But yeah, we still go to the beach. Well, I used to. Tropical cyclones meant big surf.

I heard it's so cold in Calgary that the zoo won't let the penguins go out.

Calgary Zoo's Penguin Walk cancelled because it's too cold for the birds | News

Don’t feel bad if you decided to stay at home today — you’re not the only one who isn’t willing to go out in this dangerously cold weather.

It’s currently so cold in Calgary that the Calgary Zoo decided to cancel the daily Penguin Walk, which (adorably) sees the Zoo’s king penguins go for a waddle from Penguin Plunge out to Discovery Bridge.

They decided to call off the walk earlier today, alerting the public in a post on their Facebook page at around 10 am.

Haha! Agree Kerry.

At least the sun is shining , yet no 'heat' from it.
Our poor furnace runs all day and all night too... It wakes me up, I'm not used to it kicking-in at night.

I would doubt that too many are visiting the zoo anyway today...
'only mad dogs and Englishmen' go out in this...
My friend forgot to plug her car in... ( -30 below ) so yesterday when she was due to pick me up...it was frozen solid ...she's had the battery charged...but it is still dead as a door nail... so looks like she'll have to buy a new battery now.

The wind chills are bad...north of us it is -40C ....with the windchill it is -50 below. We are not quite as bad as them.

Im always scared when Dave walks the dog...she won't wear the booties , she shakes them off. I'm scared of her pads freezing and splitting.

What do you have there?

I'd hate to pay your heating bill, Helen. It's pleasant here for January, 47 F. Some snow is predicted for Saturday, probably 2-3 inches.

so now I can watch the grandchildren doing what we did way back in the 1940's......... :)

I just don't see how all of you do it. I had a sister who stayed bridgeport connecticut, and when she showed me pictures of just one snow storm, they couldn't find their car. man oh man

you have to be made for it. I spent 3 years in heidelberg germany, never seen anything like what you have.

but will keep you in prayer.

be blessed and have a warm day.... :p ... (smile).

Okay, so I'll start:

Up here, snow on the ground but no snow fallen just lately. Dull day and cold.

Here it is in the middle of summer, hot, cold, dry, wet, hail, sunshine, snow, floods, fire, desolate...you name it we have got it. In December we had the coldest day for 25 years (summer) and in the same month, we had the hottest day on record.

If you are visiting bring your shorts and a T-shirt; your overcoat; your umbrella; your sunshade and sunscreen; your sunglasses and a hat; your boots and your sandals and your gloves. Oh, and you might need a canoe to get around in.
