In one of the gospels it says that Jesus brought Peter, James and John with Him. Peter was not a young boy, and James was older than John, so that leaves John, the Beloved. He would have been close enough for them to grab, at least, his cloth.
This is where so many people get into trouble.... assuming things we are not told, because they are not in the Bible. We invent them. (And to think, we shame Catholics for building a religion on those sorts of assumption, calling them "Traditions.")

But what it does not say, is that there may have being others following Him. Seems there always was. If people knew what was going to happen., like most people who love a confrontation, would have probably being a crowd there, so as I said its all assumption, and brings nothing to mens salvation.

I think it was mentioned, because it was John.

Like why do people think the thief on the cross was not baptized?

I should never have asked an advanced question. All the haters came in. I seem to be flypaper, and attract them.
I don't get that so much any more, but I do understand where you are coming from... God has really helped me to avoid places and discussions which are really edifying no one at all. I slip on this sometimes. Who does not? Help us dear Lord!

Are we told that?

You can't see his faith? He had more faith than all the disciples put together. He understood what Jesus said about His kingdom not being of this world and actually believed Jesus could still take him there after they both were dead! Seems pretty obvious to me. You can't see it, huh? Oh well.

We have different ministries. God would have us be either hot or cold. I am hot, you are cold and refreshing.

No, all I see is you employing your imagination and wishful thinking. How can we say we go by Scripture if we make claims that are not in Scripture anywhere?

To keep it in line with the OP:
Yes, the thief reminds me of the centurion about whose faith Jesus said what?

And then about the healed blind man who effectively rebuked the Jewish leadership... What did he say about his own healing as compared all healing in the world previously?

What was so amazing about the thief on the cross was that he knew Jesus was about to die, and still asked Him to take him with him into His KINGDOM.

But what did the disciples say? Acts 1:6 Therefore, when they had come together, they asked Him, saying, “Lord, will You at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?” Thomas didn't even believe in the resurrection! And people think the thief couldn't have been baptized when it was so obvious that he had hung onto every word out of Jesus' mouth during His ministry!
