Does the inclusion of the Sabbath prove that the Ten Commandments were for Israel alone?

St. SteVen quoting Deuteronomy 5:15 said: nor any foreigner residing in your towns, More importantly, it shows that Sabbath adherence is a community decision, not an individual decision. Those in leadership decided for the whole community. Same is true today in Israel...

Does the inclusion of the Sabbath prove that the Ten Commandments were for Israel alone?

This reminds me of what may be an important point. When we sin, we feel conviction regarding it. I have never felt any conviction concerning a day of rest/worship. But I know there could be conditioning behind this for either side. Those brought into a Sabbath-keeping church are shamed for...

Does the inclusion of the Sabbath prove that the Ten Commandments were for Israel alone?

Yes. One should be nice to their friends, both of them. [

Does the inclusion of the Sabbath prove that the Ten Commandments were for Israel alone?

There were cultural aspects as well. Women were considered property. The man of one wife requirement for elders in the church indicates that polygamy was common. Also common was for a man to have a wife and female servants (slaves) as concubines. Prostitution was common for those unable to...

Reader Poll - Would you be a Christian if there was no afterlife?

So, without the afterlife there would be no reason to follow Christ? Is that what you are saying? [

Reader Poll - Would you be a Christian if there was no afterlife?

A similar poll appeared on another forum. I was shocked at the vast majority who said if there was no afterlife they would not follow Jesus. Better results this time. [

Does the inclusion of the Sabbath prove that the Ten Commandments were for Israel alone?

St. SteVen said: Does the inclusion of the Sabbath prove that the Ten Commandments were for Israel alone? My point is that the Ten Commandments were a specific set given (by God through Moses) to the Israelites alone. According to the biblical record. What you are saying...

Reader Poll - Would you be a Christian if there was no afterlife?

If there were no consequences or rewards in the afterlife, would there be any point to being a Christian? - Is there any value whatsoever to Christianity if there is no afterlife? - If there is an afterlife, how would God treat those who became Christians only out of fear of eternal...

Does the inclusion of the Sabbath prove that the Ten Commandments were for Israel alone?

St. Steven quoting Deuteronomy 5:15 said: 15 Remember that you were slaves in Egypt and that the Lord your God brought you out of there with a mighty hand and an outstretched arm. Therefore, the Lord your God has commanded you to observe the Sabbath day. The short answer is...

Does the inclusion of the Sabbath prove that the Ten Commandments were for Israel alone?

He's my favorite, for sure. But I wasn't trying to drag him into this. We have a had a pretty complete back and forth in the past. For me, maintaining the relationship is more important than winning the debate. [

Does the inclusion of the Sabbath prove that the Ten Commandments were for Israel alone?

I agree that it isn't worth fighting about. Are you saying it should not even be discussed? [

Does the inclusion of the Sabbath prove that the Ten Commandments were for Israel alone?

I stand with you to defend the right of believers (or unbelievers for that matter) to observe the Sabbath if they so choose. What I don't support is those who claim that those who choose not to observe Sabbath are violating "God's Holy Day." [

Does the inclusion of the Sabbath prove that the Ten Commandments were for Israel alone?

From my perspective, God's law (human conscience) preceded the law (given by God through Moses to the Israelites alone). God's law was, and still is, for all humankind. And now we have Christ's law in addition, to support God's law. (human conscience) Again, the law was given by God through...

Does the inclusion of the Sabbath prove that the Ten Commandments were for Israel alone?

    - To whom were the Ten Commandments given? Deuteronomy 5:3-4 NIV It was not with our ancestors[a] that the Lord made this covenant, but with us, with all of us who are alive here today. 4 The Lord spoke to you face to face out of the fire on the mountain. - To whom was the Sabbath...

My agnostic friend says: "I don't need it." - How would you respond?

St. SteVen said: I agree. @Carl Emerson claims that the Elect cannot even be tempted by deception. (of any kind) To be clear, I never suggested that they would "fall". Why would you think that the deceptions that we all live with equate to a "fall"? [

My agnostic friend says: "I don't need it." - How would you respond?

From the Universal Restorationist POV my reference to the Elect is those who have a renewed relationship with God before entering the afterlife. (each in turn) 1 Corinthians 15:22-24 NIV For as in Adam all die, so in Christ all will be made alive. 23 But each in turn: Christ, the firstfruits...
