    SALVATION

I like what you are getting at, but I do disagree. I used Matthew 24:13, but there is another verse that says the same thing (actually 2 others, but they are different accounts of the same thing). with the Matthew 24 verse, Jesus was asked what will be the sign of his coming, and the end of...

    Founding Fathers = Christians or...?

I appreciate the extra info on the run away slave. If all that was covered in the book, it slipped my mind. Seems like we have a common interest in U.S. history... I plan to begin reading something on Jefferson sooon. Let me know if you have any recommendations.

    Founding Fathers = Christians or...?

My impression of John Adams: I have lived to know 8 Presidents, read biographies of 3 and have a good familiarity through study of all up to Grant. I am not finished learning about them all, but John Adams might be my favorite and the most brilliant! Religiously, I don't see a man who put...

    Founding Fathers = Christians or...?

My impression of George Washington: I've done quite a bit of studying of him, and read two biographies of him. One of them was dealing solely on his quest for Fort Duquesne/Pitt. The other about him in general. I found him to be one to believe in God. But not with the same passion as those...

    SALVATION

This seems to be a question that if one preacher or theologian could give a solid and full-proof answer, he'd probably be the last one ever needed and all others would have to submit to. I tend to agree with those who say we don't know until we get there, and I even believe in predestination...

    Founding Fathers = Christians or...?

I agree with your comments about biographies. It's kind of coincidental that I am on a long-term quest to read a biography for each of the Presidents. I am on my third (John Adams... I already read Grant's). For Adams I chose David McCollough's book. He writes beautifully! But I have...

    Founding Fathers = Christians or...?

Well, I agree with this on the surface... I'd have to read the whole context, though. This one needs some background info to understand it... The "know nothing's" were a political party that was against immigration... They ceased to exist in 1860. All these quotes are interesting, but again...

All Things Are Lawful Unto Me

Like I noted to another poster: using your likerty for a cloke of maliciousness. What would it look like? Well clearly our example here is the things the Corinthians were doing.

All Things Are Lawful Unto Me

Well there are things I disagree with, but regardless, sexual immorality was happening along side mistreating each other and Paul was unhappy about them both. Whether we say it was unlawful or simply not expedient seems to be a silly thing to debate. You brought up an interesting theory:. Paul...

All Things Are Lawful Unto Me

The Bible never used that phrase. I was more thinking of Peter's words when he said not to use our liberty for a cloke of maulitiousness.

All Things Are Lawful Unto Me

If you want to believe that, go right ahead.
  12. FHII

All Things Are Lawful Unto Me

No, he said they were not expedient. That makes them not ok.
  13. FHII

All Things Are Lawful Unto Me

Because they are not expedient. Again, his real problem was their mistreatment of each other. They were using Grace for the wrong reasons.

All Things Are Lawful Unto Me

First, going to prostitutes is not lawful, period. At least in many states, but I believe it's covered by gràce. The hurt that comes with it, like I expounded on, won't be covered by gràce. Nonetheless, it was just an example. It never was my main point. As for 1 Corinthians 6:12 talking...

Whosoever therefore shall break one of these...

Good heavens, there are a lot of side issues in this post to exound on, but my main thoughts themselves will be long enough, if I fully speak them! I see the following verses as somewhat companion verses as they are getting to the same point overall: Galatians 5:3 KJV For I testify again to...

All Things Are Lawful Unto Me

Well, even though I don't go to bars that often, I personally don't have a problem with that. Come to think of it, I've visited one bar a total of 4 times in the last 2 or 3 years, and it was because the owner is an aquaitence with a common interest. It is a microbrewery, but he could've been...

All Things Are Lawful Unto Me

Pretty close, yes. Some of the things the Corinthians were doing or accused of doing are unimaginable to me (and any same human being as far as I am concerned). But there are a lot of things of lesser degrees that still aren't expedient that I have done.

All Things Are Lawful Unto Me

I could debate all of that, but it wasn't my intention to go in that direction, as I clearly You will have to elaborate on what you don't understand. I did mention that Paul was upset at these things.

Benny Hinn Renounces Prosperity Gospel !!!! I Hope TBN follows SUIT!!

Could very well be he saw it long before, but took time to come to grips with it. Though it is a shame, I won't shun him for finally doing so. If it is geniune.

Can you sum this up in a couple of sentences?

I couldn't identify it as Calvin, but I was thinking it was probably either him or Augustine. I have read plenty of Calvin. In some of his books he liked to analyze scripture verse by verse and word by word. He isn't the only one to do that, but such a practice often leads to missing the big...
