I'd say he's pretty solid : )

Except for the part about David being a "little boy." By the phrase "you're still young," Saul likely meant David was still in his late teens, as compared to a seasoned warrior in something like his late twenties to early thirties. That's all conjecture of course, but it stands to reason since a boy under the age of 13-14 would likely not be given charge over protecting a herd.

Doesn't take away from the general point your son is making, but nevertheless one wouldn't want to overdo it : ) You're still "young" likely means what we would today call a "young man."
