Today, the United Nations announced that the world's population will reach an historic
7 billion people on Oct. 31, 2011.

World population hit 1 billion people in 1804. It took 123 years to add the next billion, but less than a century to cruise past the next four billion -- from 2 billion people in 1927 to 6 billion people in 1999...7 Billion in 2011

There's an ancient Hebrew story of a place called the guff
(made famous in a movie years back"The Seventh Sign")

The Guff is a place in heaven that holds all the souls waiting to be born into flesh ...
The story goes when the Guff is empty the End will come ... One explains it this way

The "guff" is a term used to refer to the repository of all unborn souls. Literally, the word "guff" means "body."
Messiah will not come until there's no more souls to be born into the body.
This means that there are a certain number of souls in heaven waiting to be born. Until they are born, they wait in a heavenly repository. .
This teaches that each person is important and has a unique role which only he, with his unique soul, can fulfill.
Every newborn baby then brings the Messiah a little closer, simply by being born.

While this is just a Hebrew legend ...

I always thought it would have to be true. God numbers everything even the hairs on our head so surely he numbered the souls he created.

While this is not written in the scriptures, Many believe that the number of souls created is 12 Billion. As thats the number God uses as perfect government. 12 apostels, twelve tribes ect. .
...
Historians say somewhere between 4 to 6 Billion people lived in our past history of modern man
...7 Billion are alive now

Seems when we add the numbers that have died in the past with number alive now ...Its not far from that 12 billion number ....

If in fact this 12 billion is the number of souls created.... Can his return be far off ?

Food for thought.

Interesting. Don't know if I believe it or not, but yes, interesting.

I remember that movie. It is an interesting concept. But it depends upon understanding of God creating all souls in the beginning, and not just when a soul is placed in a flesh body at conception in the womb.

Why do we assume 7 billion? Why is it we believe so many things just because they're "Hebrew". Why is 7 allways associated with the "god superstition"?

So, just as there is not a life in the womb but has to be created, we assume there's a place where there's a finate number of souls. Why does that make sense to anyone?

Hey Aspen,

It doesn't take much consideration to realize that GOD is the Master Mathematician, but who can grasp all HIS ways?

Thanks for shedding a little light on another of those ways. :)

Careful.....

Believing that souls existed before bodies is dualistic and got the writings of Oriegin (a brilliant, early Christian philosopher and theologian) censored for heresy. The orthodox belief is that spirit + body = soul; the soul cannot be divided.

Pre-existence is also a foundational belief within Mormonism.

1Pe 1:20 Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you,
This isn't the only verse in the Bible that says we were foreordained and chosen before we were actually put on the earth.

I do not doubt that God knew us before we were created, but Christianity teaches that we were created as a soul - knitted together in our mother's womb. This is why the resurrection of the body is such an important teaching.

Don't let fiction be your guide to what is truth.......God's word is truth. The end will come when the gospel of the kingdom has been preached around the world.

Matthew 24:14 (ASV)
[sup]14 [/sup]And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in the whole world for a testimony unto all the nations; and then shall the end come.

This gospel that Jesus is talking about is not being preached by the Christuans today, but instead what they are preaching is a gospel about Jesus. But Jesus preached the kingdom......He came with a message about God's kingdom. This gospel has to do with God's government and its re-establishment back on the Earth. This true gospel has to do with human beings' true purpose for God making us. The false teaching that Christians are going to Heaven when Jesus returns denies the true gospel that Jesus preached.....it makes Jesus out to be a liar.
