The Parable of the Dishonest Manager
Jesus starts talking about a parable of the dishonest manager.Luk 16:1 And he said also unto his disciples, There was a certain rich man, which had a steward; and the same was accused unto him that he had wasted his goods.
Luk 15:1 Then drew near unto him all the publicans and sinners for to hear him.
Luk 15:2 And the Pharisees and scribes murmured, saying, This man receiveth sinners, and eateth with them.
There Pharisees and scribes and also publicans, and sinners, were also still around.
As Jesus continue talking, he said also looking towards his disciples saying " There was a certain rich man, which had a steward; and the same was accused unto him that he had wasted his goods". An overseer is defined as :
oikonomos
oy-kon-om'-os
From G3624 and the base of G3551; a house distributor (that is, manager), or overseer, that is, an employee in that capacity; by extension a fiscal agent (treasurer); figuratively a preacher (of the Gospel): - chamberlain, governor, steward

From G3624 and the base of G3551; a house distributor (that is, manager), or overseer, that is, an employee in that capacity; by extension a fiscal agent (treasurer); figuratively a preacher (of the Gospel): - chamberlain, governor, steward
And the rich man, called him and said, how is it that I hear this of thee? (For wasting my goods)? - Give to me an account of thy stewardship; for thou may not be no longer steward. Now the one whom wasted the rich mans goods, is now taken away from having stewardship, took away his job. Fired.Luk 16:2 And he called him, and said unto him, How is it that I hear this of thee? give an account of thy stewardship; for thou mayest be no longer steward.
Then the steward said within himself (inside of his soul,) what shall I do? for my lord taketh away from me the stewardship: I cannot dig; to beg I am ashamed.Luk 16:3 Then the steward said within himself, What shall I do? for my lord taketh away from me the stewardship: I cannot dig; to beg I am ashamed.
He continues to say, I am resolved what to do, that, when I am put out of the stewardship, they may receive me into their houses.Luk 16:4 I am resolved what to do, that, when I am put out of the stewardship, they may receive me into their houses.
So he called everyone of his lord's (A title), debtors unto him, and said unto the first, how much. owes thou unto my lord?Luk 16:5 So he called every one of his lord's debtors unto him, and said unto the first, How much owest thou unto my lord?
And he said unto the one whom had came to him to collect the debt, a hundred measures of oil. And he said to him, take your big, and sit down quickly and write fifty.Luk 16:6 And he said, An hundred measures of oil. And he said unto him, Take thy bill, and sit down quickly, and write fifty.
Then the debtor said to another, And how much owest thou? And he said, an hundred measures of wheat. And he said unto him, take thy bill, and write fourscore.Luk 16:7 Then said he to another, And how much owest thou? And he said, An hundred measures of wheat. And he said unto him, Take thy bill, and write fourscore.
And the lord commended the unjust steward, and because he had done wisely, for the children of this world are in their generation wiser than the children of light.Luk 16:8 And the lord commended the unjust steward, because he had done wisely: for the children of this world are in their generation wiser than the children of light.
(Note here of how the children of this world are wiser than the children of light). That is why many people would rather maybe not believe in God. They are wiser than those of the light. Not to say the light can not overcome, because indeed it can, especially the light of all mankind, Jesus Christ.
And the lord, continue having said, Make yourselves friends with the mammon of unrighteousness, that, when ye fail, they may receive you into everlasting habitations.Luk 16:9 And I say unto you, Make to yourselves friends of the mammon of unrighteousness; that, when ye fail, they may receive you into everlasting habitations.
He that is faithful in which is least is faithful also in much: and he that is unjust in the least, is unjust also in the much.Luk 16:10 He that is faithful in that which is least is faithful also in much: and he that is unjust in the least is unjust also in much.
Jesus goes on to say: If therefore you have not been faithful in the unrighteous mammon, who will commit to your trust the true riches?Luk 16:11 If therefore ye have not been faithful in the unrighteous mammon, who will commit to your trust the true riches?
And if you have not been faithful in that which is another man's, who shall give you that which is your own?Luk 16:12 And if ye have not been faithful in that which is another man's, who shall give you that which is your own?
No servant can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one, and love the other, or else he will hold to the one, who and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.Luk 16:13 No servant can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.
And the Pharisees also, who were covetous, heard all these thing: and they derided him.The Law and the Kingdom of God
Luk 16:14 And the Pharisees also, who were covetous, heard all these things: and they derided him.
And Jesus says to them, Ye are that which justify yourselves before men,Luk 16:15 And he said unto them, Ye are they which justify yourselves before men; but God knoweth your hearts: for that which is highly esteemed among men is abomination in the sight of God.
but God knows your hearts, for that which is highly esteemed among men is abomination in the sight of God.
Luk 16:16 The law and the prophets were until John: since that time the kingdom of God is preached, and every man presseth into it.
The law and the prophets were until John, since that time the Kingdom of God is preached, and every man presses into it.
It is easier for heaven and earth (the temple), than one tittle of the law to fail. (he would fulfill)Luk 16:17 And it is easier for heaven and earth to pass, than one tittle of the law to fail.
Divorce and Remarriage
Luk 16:18 Whosoever putteth away his wife, and marrieth another, committeth adultery: and whosoever marrieth her that is put away from her husband committeth adultery.
Whosover puts away his wife, and marries another, commits adultery, and whosoever marries her that is put away from her husband commits adultery.
Speaking of those who would love the law, over Christ. Marrying the old wife that was going to put away, which Christ would be fulfilling.
