In 1 Corinthians 15, Apostle Paul taught that at the sound of the "last trump" (the 7th Trumpet of Revelation 11), we shall be 'changed', at the 'twinkling of an eye'.
1 Cor 15:51-54
51 Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed,
52 In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.
53 For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.
54 So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, "Death is swallowed up in victory."
KJV
That is most often taught to happen only... for those in Christ Jesus on that future day.
But for those who really pay attention to what Apostle Paul taught, notice he quoted something there in that 1 Corinthians 15:54 verse, "Death is swallowed up in victory." WHERE did Paul quote that from, and what is it about?
Paul got it from Isaiah 25, and that Isaiah Scripture gives us more detail about that above future event of being changed on the "last trump". How many of you thought the Book of Isaiah was dead history, so you just skipped looking up what Apostle Paul quoted in the above Scripture?
This is 'how'... we 'rightly divide' God's Word in Bible study per Apostle Paul in 2 Timothy 2:15. Apostle Paul continuously quoted The Old Testament Books in his Epistles, and it was not always to show The New Covenant having been fulfilled. He quoted much from The Old Testament Books about prophecies still not yet fulfilled in our days! This is one of them...
Isa 25:5-9
5 Thou shalt bring down the noise of strangers, as the heat in a dry place; even the heat with the shadow of a cloud: the branch of the terrible ones shall be brought low.
In the previous Isaiah 24 Chapter, God was giving an example of His ending this present world like a container of liquid turned upside down with its contents poured out suddenly. In this Chapter He is continuing His Message about the end of this world and the coming of the next world.
6 And in this mountain shall the LORD of hosts make unto all people a feast of fat things, a feast of wines on the lees, of fat things full of marrow, of wines on the lees well refined.
7 And He will destroy in this mountain the face of the covering cast over all people, and the vail that is spread over all nations.
That is pointing to the future supper after Christ's future return to this earth. It is also pointing to the "vail" of flesh spread over all nations being cast off. The latter part of Zechariah 14 reveals that all peoples will be required to come up to Jerusalem from year to year and worship The KING, The LORD of hosts, and keep the feast of tabernacles.
8 He will swallow up death in victory; and the Lord GOD will wipe away tears from off all faces; and the rebuke of His people shall He take away from off all the earth: for the LORD hath spoken it.
9 And it shall be said in that day, "Lo, this is our God; we have waited for Him, and He will save us: this is the LORD; we have waited for Him, we will be glad and rejoice in His salvation."
KJV
There it is above, where Apostle Paul quoted Isaiah 25 in his 1 Corinthians 15 Epistle about death being swallowed in victory when WHAT... happens? In case you need to read what Paul said one more time...
1 Cor.15
53 For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.
54 So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, "Death is swallowed up in victory."
It is true that ONLY those in Christ Jesus will go through BOTH of those future changes on the day of Christ's future coming.
But for those without Christ still alive when Jesus comes, they will be 'changed' too but only to that first part, their flesh body of corruption putting on a body of incorruption. And what did Paul show in 1 Corinthians 15 is the body of incorruption? The "spiritual body". Their mortal souls will still be in a 'liable to die' condition without Christ though.
So before you just write off the Old Testament Books as dead history, you might want to make a habit of looking up those quotes in The New Testament back to those Old Testament Books. This particularly Apostle Peter told us to be mindful to do (2 Peter 3:2).
