If the Sermon is Quoting Passages out of Scripture...it's a Doctrinal Sermon.
If the the Sermon is via a man Speaking their own words, in the Catholic world, it's a Homily.

And the TRUTH IS, during a Catholic Mass, and conducting of the Sermon ....LATIN and English was regularly Spoken by the clergy...IN the US....IN Catholic Churches...WHILE Few English speakers, and occupants IN the Pews UNDERSTOOD Latin.
And that IS what I was clearly speaking of.
And speaking of the Testimony of Catholics themselves who attended such Churches, and they themselves saying LATIN was regularly part of the Sermon, and they understood not a lick of Latin.

The Truth is..there is a difference between a Doctrinal quoting of Scripture and a Homily that is simply words of the Priest that are not quoting Scripture. And Latin WAS regularly INCLUDED as Spoken during a Sermon, when the Congregets DID NOT understand Latin.

Latin is the best way to get a message across clearly and English can be miss understood far to easy.
Doctors surgeons chemist etc do not use English as it's crap in such a field, so as such it does not describe.
If one says in Latin what type of tree something is, you can not mistake what it is, but in English we can have many names for the same thing.

When we read an English Bible it's just a translation that can miss the mark and be mistaken easy if you do not have some understanding of Latin and Hebrew, because English is trying to make the best out of the translation that it can and one has to mindful of that. So some idiot will point to something in the Bible and make fun of it, thinking that it's nonsense, but the fact is that the ignorant has not got a clue and is just barking up the wrong tree, thinking he is smarter than everyone.

The Mass was in Latin before 1965....it was the same Latin words spoken every week.....if the parishoner didnt understand the words they grabbed their missal in front of them and read the English translation.

The homily/sermon was in English in America - it was not based on the whim of the priest - it was based on the scripture of the week - see, unlike Protestant pastors who picked their favorite scriptures from the Bible, priests preached every verse of the Bible (excluding the begat verses) on a three year cycle - they still do today
