So there is a lot of discussion in Australia at the moment about changing the date of Australia day, and it's not a matter of if but when.
In one of the polls nearly 50% don't want to change the date, 28% don't want to and the rest don't know..... But..... 18-24 years olds showed a 47% support of changing the date, while those aged 55 and over, only 19% of them support it.
I am honestly in the not fussed position, if they do decide to change the date, as it had been changed before, and the current day it is celebrated has only been celebrated since 1994, so if they want to change it go ahead with it, also I am not fussed because it is an issue that has nothing to do with Salvation.
Why do some people want the date change?
The current date January 26, was the day the first fleet landed in Port Jackson in 1788, following the colonization of Australia by th British Empire, many Aboriginals were massacred, and that is the reason why some want the date changed, and some call today invasion day...
The British Empire also used Australia as a prisoner island, they brought many convicts over, and many of them were treated roughly, and lived through the toughest of conditions and a lot of convicts died also.
History has been very unfair and violent in the past...... No wonder why some people want to change the date, and I have no doubt that the date Australia's national day is celebrated on will one day change.
So if it gets changed what should the date be changed too?
Some are suggesting May 8, "mate" day.
Nearly half of all Australians opposed to Australia Day date change, says poll
