As to the "brethren of Jesus" question - I don't hold to them being children of Joseph. By the accounts of the Crucifixion - they are the children of "Mary", wife of Clopas/Alphaeus and kinswoman of Mary, Mother of Jesus (Matt. 27:56, Mark 15:40, John 19:25, Luke 6:15).
