Psalm 23 was written by King David who was a born again believer, filled with the Holy Spirit, and a prophet. David had his down periods like everyone does, but Jesus is our rest and restores our souls. Hebrews 12 describes our chastening from the lord and brings us more like Christ. As we become more Christ like, some of the old sin nature is there that needs pruning out.

If you are in Christ also, you received the Holy Spirit and you too will be chastened, like a father disciplines his son.
