C.S. Lewis's writings on "Mother Kirk" are very helpful for insight.aspen2 said:Not possible.
We are called to be one body.
The Church is the Bride of Christ. The Church that Christ built on earth is divine because it was built by God. It was not built by man. Just as a husband is called to be like Christ by giving his life for his wife, so did Christ won His bride, the Church, by giving up His life for her.Angelina said:The mystery of Christ and the Church is that they are one, liken unto a husband and wife being one...Ephesians 5:29-31
The bride of Christ is not from earth but comes down from heaven. Revelation 21:1-3
Revelation 22
17 The Spirit and the bride say, “Come!” And let the one who hears say, “Come!” Let the one who is thirsty come; and let the one who wishes take the free gift of the water of life.
If the church is the bride then who is the Spirit and bride inviting to partake of the free gift of life???
I do not believe in replacement theology....

The church is the bride of Christ...I will save from posting all the passages of scripture to support this Biblical fact.
Selene,Selene said:The Bride of Christ is called "New Jerusalem" (Revelations 21:2). In the Holy Bible, St. Paul refers to the New Jerusalem as "our mother."
Galatians 4:26 But the other woman, Sarah, represents the heavenly Jerusalem. She is the free woman, and she is our mother.
In this biblical verse, St. Paul describes Sarah as the "Heavenly Jerusalem", and he called the New Jerusalem our mother. Like the Apostle Paul, Catholics also believe that the Church is a Mother.
Somebody should have told Augustine and the Church Father thisAngelina said:The Church is not a mother...the Church is the body of Christ. The Body of Christ is the arms and legs in which Jesus is the head. The Church cannot cannot be a mother. The Church building cannot be a mother either nor can the Church modus operandi.. :)
I don't see how that has to do with what I posted? Is that supposed to explain why St. Paul called the Heavenly Jerusalem a mother? Perhaps, you can explain?The_highwayman said:Selene,
Check out Ephesians 5:22-33.
