In Matt. 23:9 - Jesus is using hyperbole (exaggeration) to make a point and does so many times in Scripture. In the verse that precedes this (Matt: 23:8), Jesus tells us not to call people “Teachers”. Is Jesus telling us that we can’t call certain people "fathers" or “teachers” when they may actually be fathers or teachers? Absolutely NOT.

He is telling us that no man is to be considered father above our Father in heaven and no person is to be considered teacher above our Teacher in heaven.

Jesus was speaking about the Scribes and Pharisees who exalted themselves before all:
“They love places of honor at banquets, seats of honor in synagogues, greetings in marketplaces, and the salutation 'Rabbi.”(Matt 23:6-7)

Try to twist your way out of the following passages:
- Jesus said, “Your FATHER Abraham rejoiced at the thought of seeing my day; he saw it and was glad.” (John 8:56).
- St. Stephen refers to "our FATHER Abraham," (Acts 7:2).
- St. Paul speaks of "our FATHER Isaac” (Romans 9:10).
- For I became your FATHER in Christ Jesus through the gospel" (1 Cor. 4:14–15).
- We see in Matt. 19:5, Mark 10:7 where Jesus quotes Gen. 2:24, which states: “That is why a man leaves his FATHER and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh.”
- In Eph. 5:31, Paul quotes the very same verse. The Greek same word, πατερ (pat-ayr’), is used in all 3 verses.
- God commands us to “Honor your FATHER and Mother” (Exod.20:12).
- "For this I was appointed a preacher and apostle . . . a TEACHER of the Gentiles in faith and truth" (1 Tim. 2:7).
- "For this gospel I was appointed a preacher and apostle and TEACHER" (2 Tim. 1:11).
- "God has appointed in the church first Apostles, second prophets, third TEACHERS " (1 Cor. 12:28).

I don't expect a response because there is NO way for you to weasel you way out of these passages which PROVE the Catholic position.

The CONTEXT of this commandment is NOT about creating images. We know this because later, God commands Moses to make 2 Golden Cherubim to place atop the Ark and a Bronze Serpent and place it on a pole. The CONTEXT of this commandment is not to WORSHIP them as gods, Einstein.

Andf even teh Holy Spirit who God sends to those who believe to represent Him on teh earth,

Joh_15:26 But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me:

Ummmmm, forgetting the fact that Catholics ARE Christians - the very FIRST Christians - are you saying that you can't stop lying so we can have a charitable, intelligent conversation??

Actually - you're wrong on ALL counts.

First off the Catholic Church isn't a religion that replaces Jesus. That's YOUR warped interpretation.
The Church is the Body of Christ and He is the Head (Col. 1:18). and He compares His very SELF with His Church (Acts 9:4-5). The Church is the FULLNESS of Christ (Eph. 1:22-23) and the pillar and foundation of Truth (1 Tim. 3:15).

As for there being Christians before the Catholic Church - HISTORY is against you.
Ignatius, Bishop of Antioch referred to "The Catholic Church" in his Letter to the Smyrnaeans. Ignatius was a student of the Apostle John who was presumably STILL alive when Ignatius wrote this.

Try to grasp this:
There was no internet, no radio, to television, no evening news, no CNN or Fox no newspapers - nothing.
For Ignatius to be calling the Church, "The Catholic Church" at the beginning of the 2nd century - this had to be related by word-of-mouth for MANY years if anybody was expected to understand what he was talking about.

Unfortunately, you won't find this in any of the literature from your online cult "aggressivechristianity.net".
Anyway - their roots only go as far back as 1980, according to their site . . .

"Catholic" is just a word, meaning: Universal...or in simple terms: Big.

The riff of opposition facing the Catholic church is not one of origins, but of adding the traditions of men and revering men over the risen Christ and his Helper, the Holy Spirit.

Appointing a Pope over the church is arguable, but not defensible. The care of the church was not given to men. The flesh proceeds the spirit...but it does not lead. Never. The church, by definition - has no authority.

nonetheless, those who are comfortable praying to Mary or Christ obviously believe that they are as justified as those who pray only to God, and that is where the lesson is imo
