I am not Catholic, however, many of my beliefs/doctrines lean to the Catholic/Eastern Orthodox beliefs. There are many of us Protestants that agree with much of Catholic teaching because much of it is backed up by Christian history. So there is no such thing as MY PRIEST. ;)

A Church is open to the public but it is still a private place. If it was POMPOUS prayer in the church then yes, they would be a hypocrite. The priest, during Mass, is not praying pompously.

Thanks for your reply. Have you read any Catholic Mystics? I joined the Roman Catholic Church at 30. I also agree with much of Eastern Orthodox doctrine.

Indeed, Eastern Orthodox leadership has been traditionally rooted in the leader of the country they belong to. It is interesting to me that Hank Hannigraf and Jaslov Pelikan joined the Eastern Orthodox Church (Pelikan was a scholar and church historian - he converted from the Lutheran Church at the age of 97).

You might be interested in 'The Dark Night of the Soul' by St. John of the Cross. Copies are all over the Internet.

I've heard of Crossing the Tiber, but have not read it. I read Seven Storey Mountain by Thomas Merton and A Cloistered Walk by Kathleen Norris (I grew up Presbyterian - she remains Presbyterian). Norris is also a Benedictine Oblate - I am, as well

Wow, don't know what to say. I have tried to be as clear as I can. I shall not be getting back to you on this or I don't think any other matter. I have met many a would be 'Holy Ghost Juniors' over the years. I prefer the real one........Perhaps concern yourself more with getting your own walk with Him into a much more intimate place...Love letters are one thing, having time with your beloved, that is a whole other thing all together... Actually, yes He very often does.. Not saying exactly a direct phone line, but close... This is a wise person who had been a Catholic, but came out of 'her', to be found in Christ. A much much better place...You should try it....

Jesus DID NOT pray in this passage. He thanked his father for HEARING him. That means he had already prayed and NO WHERE in that passage does it say that he prayed publically to raise Lazarus from the dead. He simply just ORDERED Lazarus to come out. Thanking someone for something is not a prayer. Jesus further said "I said this on account of the people standing around". What was THIS that he SAID? It wasn't a prayer. THIS is what he SAID to Martha, Did I not tell you that if you believed you would see the glory of God. Jesus simply TOLD them that their belief would reveal the glory of God. He didn't even say that their PRAYERS allowed them to see the glory of God.

Do you think Jesus is a hypocrite?

I agree. It is none of my business. I'm just using logic and scripture.

It isn't logical to pin God down as to which group He will answer, because He hears the prayers of both. How God answers seemingly opposing prayer requests is to put God into a box.

If a Baptist preacher prays over the communion bread for it to become the body and blood of Christ will his prayer be answered? I thought only Catholic priest could do that?

Since Baptist preachers don't believe in Transubstantiation and do not have a valid Catholic ordination your scenario makes no sense. Yes, only Catholic priests and bishops can do that.

The order for Lazarus to come forth was not a prayer. It was a command. But it was a command after a prayer. (John 11:41-42) "...And Jesus lifted up his eyes, and said, Father, I thank thee that thou hast heard me. And I knew that thou hearest me always: but because of the people which stand by I said it, that they may believe that thou hast sent me." I don't understand how that is not a prayer.

No, I don't think Jesus is a hypocrite. The purpose of the Pharisee praying in public was to be seen of men. And we who are followers of Christ should devout our prayer time in private to avoid such appearance of hypocrisy. But there does come times when it is acceptable to God. Jesus didn't pray here to be seen of men. He prayed so that they may believe that He was sent from God.

As for a Catholic who denies Transubstantiation - I would suggest that they discuss the matter with their priest.

Denial of or doubt about doctrinal or dogmatic matters doesn't make you an anti-Catholic.

I didn't apologize because, as I said - you implicated the Pope by posting a headline regarding supposed official Catholic doctrine that was an absolute lie.
