Rebellion against the Creator God is always popular among natural carnally minded people.
This is heavily carved into even the unconscious and conscious psyche in all sorts of various ways and doings.
They constantly try to prove God wrong as in God did not say that, just like Satan does. People naturally born are carnally minded and cannot please God. Everything to them is of the flesh, as they live according to the flesh. They experience His wrath.

Romans 8
5 For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. 6 For to be [a]carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. 7 Because the [b]carnal mind is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, nor indeed can be. 8 So then, those who are in the flesh cannot please God.

Matthew 4:4
But He answered and said, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’

Your life is found only in God's hands every moment of your life. Nothing new under the sun. And the judgement came for them also in the past.

And thank God for the New Covenant, where we, the members of that, are born again of the Spirit and are then spiritually minded and live according to the Spirit. God changes us completely, rewritten, we are new creations in Christ with a new destiny. God does that work in us by His word, He speaks into us our life. We hear God as we are of God. Being of God comes first, Read John 3
Romans 10:17
So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

John 8
47 He who is of God hears God’s words; therefore you do not hear, because you are not of God.”

Isaiah 1

Judah Called to Repentance

1 The vision of Isaiah the son of Amoz, which he saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem in the days of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah, kings of Judah.

The Wickedness of Judah

2 Hear, O heavens, and give ear, O earth!
For the Lord has spoken:
“I have nourished and brought up children,
And they have rebelled against Me;
3 The ox knows its owner
And the donkey its master’s [a]crib;
But Israel does not know,
My people do not [b]consider.”
4 Alas, sinful nation,
A people [c]laden with iniquity,
A [d]brood of evildoers,
Children who are corrupters!
They have forsaken the Lord,
They have provoked to anger
The Holy One of Israel,
They have turned away backward.
5 Why should you be stricken again?
You will revolt more and more.
The whole head is sick,
And the whole heart faints.
6 From the sole of the foot even to the head,
There is no soundness in it,
But wounds and bruises and putrefying sores;
They have not been closed or bound up,
Or soothed with ointment.
7 Your country is desolate,
Your cities are burned with fire;
Strangers devour your land in your presence;
And it is desolate, as overthrown by strangers.
8 So the daughter of Zion is left as a [e]booth in a vineyard,
As a hut in a garden of cucumbers,
As a besieged city.

9 Unless the Lord of hosts
Had left to us a very small remnant,
We would have become like Sodom,
We would have been made like Gomorrah.

Apostle Paul quotes from Isaiah in Romans 9 and 10
