Did Jews in the first century read from scrolls written in Hebrew?

This is a spinoff from another thread where the conversation drifted off topic and onto the subject of what language(s) Jesus and the apostles read, what language(s) they spoke, and what language(s) they taught and preached in.

I’d like to begin that discussion in this thread by asking: Did Jews living in the first century ever read in any of their synagogues from scrolls written in Hebrew?

Of course, the Rabbi's did. Jesus actually spoke Hebrew, Greek, and Aramaic in the Gospels. Remember Jesus only asked one question to Nicodemus, and it was about Hebrew scripture.
