Ok I just wanted to be sure I understood you.. I thought you were mocking churches who claim we will not be perfect..

Glad I asked and did not assume..
False teaching frustrates me.
Sorry, I ranted on. I need to pray that the teacher is born again, for his sake as much as the congregation.

I started this thread in March.
I'm so fed up of lukewarm messages. Ear tickling etc.
That's another six months wasted...starting to think I should give church (social club) up and just stick to reading/listening to The Word.

Interesting post, thanks.
There is a damsel in distress stereotype in pop culture. Where women are portrayed as being powerless. Unable to do anything to save themselves or improve their standard of life.

Damsels in distress need a knight in shining armor to save them. If this doesn't happen, they never get saved.

The modern mindset many have today is not unlike a damsel in distress who is powerless to save themselves or improve their life unless Jesus saves them. Or the government saves them. Or a knight in shining armor rides in on a white horse to save them.
I've seen women capitalizing on this. Standing next to you talking and they drop their pen, or whatever.
It's a test to see if you are a gentleman. If you don't pick it up they sigh when they pick it up, as if you are to blame. - LOL

Personally, I would rather hear what steps people have taken today to save themselves. What did they learn today? What new thing did they do that they have never done before?
Unlikely to see much of that in a Sunday AM service. Perhaps in fellowship time before or after service.
Small groups are better suited for consistent deep sharing.

Are you a part of the problem, or a part of the solution?
What would your isolation accomplish?

Are you a pew-polisher, or are you involved in active service?
At risk of sounding like your parent... - Get a job! - LOL

Pet,

As has just been said: “Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts as you did in the rebellion.”

The work begun in you is a process of being perfected or better worded, you are "being saved", its today the work of overcoming is taking place. God and Jesus are not interested in the end of your life, only today.

Continue in seeking God, the one whom adopted you in faith. Walk in faith, not by sight, and keep in step with the spirit.

Going to church does not matter; what matters is abiding in Christ, and sharing what you have learned over time. The holy spirit, and the spirit of Christ will help you. Continue to ask the Father in prayer and pray for all people, situations, and for Gods will to be done.

Precious, there are Many of us that have done Exactly that.
I'm surprised at your response. (not disappointed, to be clear)

This begs a question about the value of the Body of Christ, the church.

The topic originator has expectations that are not being met.
And considers time spent at church a waste of time.

One of the things that was emphasized in post-secondary education
that I remember is: "You get out of it what you put into it."
I think that applies to church.

I understand that there are many reasons NOT to attend.
And I don't criticize those who aren't able to for whatever reason.
If it doesn't work for you, it doesn't work for you. I get it.

Still... begs a question about the value of the Body of Christ, the church.

For me, there is something at church that I can't get from sticking my nose in a Bible.

Greasy grace is the problem. I had a job in church,
another distraction-for a whole decade!
'pew polishers', are only there for the gossip. I loath gossip (And liars).

I couldn't teach, because, I'm female

( I could teach the younger women, I s'pose, how to be the best at the latest computer game, or whatever?)

I do have a problem, apart from being cynical, and grumpy. What if six months turns into six years? What if Jesus returns and I'm distracted by doing fake church works?

If we're easily distracted or deceived, isolation isn't a bad idea. Or is it?

My parents wouldn't tell me to get a job in this church, they left years ago.

Thanks for your thoughtful and detailed response.
Helps me to better understand where you are coming from.
What would the perfect church for you look like?

Sometimes I get frustrated and rant, sorry, your messages have helped me to realise that there is a bigger plan of The Lord. Its good to have Christians to rant to, even if it's just online.

Acts 2
When I first joined, (30 yrs ago) I would come out of church many weeks, realising that I had to change. Challenged, convicted yes, but armed with the solution-had a healthy hunger for The Word.
.. had hope
Isolation shouldn't appeal so much, we're sociable creatures.
