In fact you are supporting the killing of more people by opposing the right of police to kill active shooters.
Again you support killing innocents!
BTW, in case you have forgotten, I am opposed to capital punishment, but I accept the necessity of law enforcement officers using lethal force in extreme circumstances.
Utter contradiction!!!

And would you use it on gunmen who were shooting innocent people dead at random in a large public gathering ?
Don't be silly. A rifle would be much more effective in that situation. Besides, North Carolina law prohibits firearms at large public gatherings. Law-abiding citizen, that's me. (In case any SBI agents are monitoring this forum.)

I agree the state has the right to execute criminals.
My reservations are based on "where the death penalty is wrongly given".
If there is capital punishment, it is inevitable that it will be wrongly used at times.

Situations such as the Bondi massacre deserve the death penalty, and it would not be wrong according to Scripture to execute the surviving attacker ... just as it was not wrong for the police to kill one of the gunmen on the site.

Those who oppose the killing of the dead shooter would have allowed the massacre to continue with even more tragic results.

* Good thing we've got so many folks here who are qualified to be the executioner.
That was not a reaction to a current situation, but a judgment after the event.
Let's say violence is being done to an innocent person by an aggressor where the person is in danger of being tortured, maimed and murdered. And you are there and can stop it, even by shooting the violent criminal which might kill them.

What do you do?

What if your home is invaded and your children are being raped, and murdered, what do you do if you can stop it?

Can this apply?
Who would not be outraged if family was being attacked.
It is one thing to turn the other cheek if it is only you.

1 Timothy 5
8 But if any provide not for his own, and especially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith and is worse than an infidel.

God's laws have the death penalty

Mark 7
9 And He said unto them, “Full well ye reject the commandment of God, that ye may keep your own tradition.

10 For Moses said, ‘Honor thy father and thy mother,’ and, ‘Whoso curseth father or mother, let him die the death.’

11 But ye say that if a man shall say to his father or mother, ‘It is Corban’ (that is to say, a gift of whatsoever thou mightest have profited from me), he shall be freed;

12 and ye suffer him no more to do aught for his father or his mother,

13 thus making the Word of God of no effect through your tradition, which ye have delivered. And many like things do ye.”

Exodus 23:7
Keep thee far from a false matter, and the innocent and righteous slay thou not; for I will not justify the wicked.

People don't send other people to hell. (Indeed, they can't). Only God does that.

The whole concept of who judges who, it is not the Father judging, it is Christ and the words he has spoken
Jesus says the Father judges no one. The Father has placed all judgement on His Son, and people are condemned already.
The truth is this verifies to us Christ is God come in the flesh.

John 3
18 “He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

John 12:48
He who rejects Me, and does not receive My words, has that which judges him— the word that I have spoken will judge him in the last day.

John 5

Honor the Father and the Son

16 For this reason the Jews persecuted Jesus, [d]and sought to kill Him, because He had done these things on the Sabbath. 17 But Jesus answered them, “My Father has been working until now, and I have been working.”

18 Therefore the Jews sought all the more to kill Him, because He not only broke the Sabbath, but also said that God was His Father, making Himself equal with God. 19 Then Jesus answered and said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of Himself, but what He sees the Father do; for whatever He does, the Son also does in like manner. 20 For the Father loves the Son, and shows Him all things that He Himself does; and He will show Him greater works than these, that you may marvel. 21 For as the Father raises the dead and gives life to them, even so the Son gives life to whom He will. 22 For the Father judges no one, but has committed all judgment to the Son, 23 that all should honor the Son just as they honor the Father. He who does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent Him.

Life and Judgment Are Through the Son

24 “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life. 25 Most assuredly, I say to you, the hour is coming, and now is, when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God; and those who hear will live. 26 For as the Father has life in Himself, so He has granted the Son to have life in Himself, 27 and has given Him authority to execute judgment also, because He is the Son of Man. 28 Do not marvel at this; for the hour is coming in which all who are in the graves will hear His voice 29 and come forth—those who have done good, to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil, to the resurrection of condemnation. 30 I can of Myself do nothing. As I hear, I judge; and My judgment is righteous, because I do not seek My own will but the will of the Father who sent Me.

Condemnation means damnation, God will not justify the wicked.
29 and shall come forth — they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life, and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation.

A Texas man who fatally shot a convenience store clerk is scheduled to be executed by lethal injection on Wednesday, marking what would be the nation's 30th execution this year.

Jamaal Howard, 46, was convicted of capital murder for the 2000 killing of Vickie Swartout, 42, who was shot once in the chest. Howard is set to receive a lethal dose of pentobarbital in the first scheduled execution in the US since Tennessee's botched attempt to execute Christa Pike last week.

Pike's attorneys announced Tuesday that she was conscious and talking while receiving treatment at a hospital. It remains unclear whether Pike will face a second execution attempt, as Tennessee suspended its schedule following the failed procedure on the convicted teen killer.

• Donald Trump demands talks with Putin as Russia plague outbreaks sparks disaster fears

Pike, 50, survived two doses of pentobarbital when executioners attempted to put her to death Sept. 30 for the 1995 beating and stabbing death of classmate Colleen Slemmer.

Colleen Slemmer — Life, Murder, and Legacy

Colleen Anne Slemmer (September 20, 1975 – January 12, 1995) was a 19‑year‑old student at the Knoxville Job Corps Center in Tennessee whose brutal murder in 1995 led to a death sentence for her classmate Christa Pike International Business Times Singapore+1.

Early Life and Personality

Born in Orange Park, Florida, Slemmer was the daughter of May Martinez and her stepfather International Business Times Singapore+1. She was described by family and friends as caring, independent, and eager to help others. She babysat, volunteered with the Special Olympics, and assisted children with disabilities at school International Business Times Singapore+1. She had a strong passion for computers, often taking them apart and rebuilding them with her stepfather, and even wore a favorite “computer geek” T‑shirt that her family later turned into a teddy bear International Business Times Singapore+1. She also enjoyed roller skating, miniature golf, and running marathons International Business Times Singapore+1.

The Murder

On January 12, 1995, Slemmer, then 19, was lured by Pike (18), Pike’s boyfriend Tadaryl Shipp (17), and friend Shadolla Peterson away from the Job Corps Center to an isolated area near the University of Tennessee’s agricultural campus International Business Times Singapore+1. According to court records and testimony, they beat, slashed, and tortured her for nearly an hour, carving a pentagram into her chest BollywoodShaadis+1. She was ultimately killed by having her skull crushed with a chunk of asphalt BollywoodShaadis+1. Prosecutors said Pike believed Slemmer was a romantic rival for Shipp BollywoodShaadis.

Aftermath and Legal Case

Slemmer’s body was found behind a steam plant on the campus, with over 300 slashes and lacerations BollywoodShaadis. Pike was arrested within two days, confessed, and in 1996 was convicted of first‑degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder, receiving the death penalty People. Shipp received life with parole eligibility Hindustan Times. Pike has claimed she initially intended to “fight” Slemmer but lost control during the attack Hindustan Times.

Legacy

Colleen’s mother, May Martinez, has continued to speak publicly about her daughter’s life and values, and has expressed plans to attend Pike’s scheduled execution in 2026 International Business Times Singapore. The case remains one of Tennessee’s most infamous murders, and former Knoxville Police Chief Phil Keith has called Pike “pure evil” while recalling the “satanic” crime scene MEAWW News+1.

Colleen Slemmer’s story is remembered not only for the brutality of her killing but also for her kindness, her passion for technology, and her desire to help others — a stark contrast to the violence that ended her life International Business Times Singapore+2.

If a country has the death penalty by whatever method and you do the crime then you chose your fate.

It seems we’re having trouble communicating. My point was not in opposition to the theory of capital punishment, per se. My point was that we should not fool ourselves that in practice executing someone is inherently barbaric and brutal.

The only reason this thread exists is because our attempt to pretend we got it down to a painless and peaceful process was exposed as a fraud.

This stat is part of the vid, which also identified research done by the University of Miami that 88% of those executed by lethal injection had less anesthesia than required for surgery and 43% were aware enough to feel the fire going through their blood stream of what stops the heart, severe pain.

Years ago, my wife bought a dollhouse kit, and after it was built, I'd go with her to all the hobby shops in the area looking for furniture. We found a miniature electric chair, complete with a 9-volt battery. Anybody touching the metal seat would get zapped. (I was surprised you could get a zap like that out of a 9-volt.)

I wanted to get it for dollhouse attic, but The Sweet Lady gave me a two-word answer ending in "No".

Electric chair is a very sure death compared with lethal injection. But is also an ugly thing to witness. That much current cooks you on the inside. Boils you in your own blood.

1.92% failure rate vs 7.12%, according to the chart in post #93. Firing squad has too small a sample size compared to the other methods. I could get out my Probability and Statistics textbook and calculate an estimated range for the actual failure rate.

Maybe the best method, the guillotine; must be 100% effective if the head is severed, and quickest death. Plus it must be about the most painless. 2nd most painless, firing squad where they shoot the heart with multiple bullets, instant loss of blood pressure, the person faints unconscious.
If you have ever been injured seriously and in shock, the first few minutes of the injury can be very painless, afterwards that pain appears. Happened when I got bad burns on my legs.

Electric shock will fail if the connection to the body is not good. Also high resistance electrical burns can happen at point of contact.

She is still in terrible condition

Christa Pike's attorneys said she has pneumonia, a blood clot, couldn't swallow, and is unable to move her arms or hands once she regained consciousness in a Tennessee hospital, days after the death row inmate survived a botched execution by the state.

"Her hands looked like if you were to blow up a surgical glove," said one of Pike's attorneys, Randy Spivey, at a Wednesday news conference. "It was extraordinary."

Spivey said he and Pike's other attorneys were told she was brain-dead on Monday and expected her to be removed from life support. But by the next day, she had woken up and started talking, he said.

"I don't have an explanation for what happened," the attorney told reporters after a hearing at Davidson County Chancery Court. He said that Pike was confused and disoriented at first, but she began to remember details of the execution attempt on Wednesday.
