I've had lifelong issues with success in career and in my earlier schooling. Really it probably was my biggest issue of Faith, probably due to my father and his family being refugees from Czechoslovakia, growing up in 3rd Reich lands facing bombings, separation from parents, food scarcity etc. and eventually being very successful after eventually getting established in the US and believing you can do anything if you put your mind to it and put the time and sweat in. I kind of experienced something similar to William Lane Craig when he said,

"I have been a Christian for over thirty years. I estimate that in my Christian lifetime I have attended upward of a couple of thousand church services, hundreds of chapels at Wheaton College, and scores of Christian meetings at retreats, conferences, and so on, held by Campus Crusade and other groups. Yet during this entire time I have never once—not a single time in the thousands of meetings over some thirty-odd years—heard a speaker address the subject of failure. In fact, I probably would not myself have reflected seriously on the topic if it had not been for a crushing failure that drove me to face the problem personally.

The lack of treatment of this subject on the part of Christian speakers is not due to any lack of importance in the subject. Any Christian who has failed at some time knows how devastating the experience can be and the questions it raises: Where is God? How could He let this happen? Am I outside His will? What do I do now? Does God really care or exist? Those are agonizing questions. What is the meaning of failure for a Christian?"

I didn't watch the whole video but I think I got the gist of what William Lane Craig was saying. From my experience I can relate in that my journey has been a continued realisation of Gods will as opposed to mine that keeps getting in the way. Just when I think I am on track to follow Gods will I come to realise it was not quite Gods will.

I think the word 'failure' can have different meanings. Especially today where meanings are changing based on experience. Its hard to understand failure when it comes to Christianity. On the one hand some may believe that sin is acceptable because we are under grace. On the other some may think they have failed God when they may be over sensitive and anxious about pleasing God. Or in keeping up appearences. Which is really social peer pressure. Such as conforming to cultural Christianity.

I cannot say what failure means for Christians or myself. I have and still fail. I am always realising how I fall short. But as mentioned I think some of that is due to my own weaknesses as a human that I need to work on. I think thats an individual thing. Its more a relationship and how I may let down my side of the relationship.

But that is the difference between living in the flesh and spirit. We are continually letting go and transforming towards Christ. I think living in the spirit means our understanding of failure is between ourselves and God and not the world or the ideas we have about how we should do Gods will. Its a battle of wills.

We are aiming to be like Christ in the garden and wilderness. Who though like us as humans in experiencing temptation to do our will over Gods. Submitted and fully trusted His Father. Our aim is perfection and I think our failure (if you could call it that) is our realisation of how we can be more like Christ.

Lane Craig mentions something good. That a Christian thirsts for Gods word and spirit day and night.

I think central to this is Christs gospel. Paul covers this when he talks about dying to the flesh and living in the spirit. This is the central message that we sacrifice ourselves as Christ did for us. This is the relational aspect that brings things into focus which is Christ in our heart that we live in the spirit and seeking to please God. The more we sacrifice the more we will succeed (if you can call it that).

Failure
Is failing to HEED the SPIRIT and or heeding a spirit that causes any to fail to BELEIVE what is written .
Failure to BELEIVE GOD and rather believing men who twist His words .
