@Debp @ScottA @Lambano this thread is great, love seeing so many different eras represented. John Wayne and Hitchcock sitting alongside newer titles is exactly how it should be, good stories are good stories regardless of when they were made. I've been spending a lot of time lately on a streaming platform that focuses on positive, family friendly content and it really fits the vibe of what everyone here has been talking about. Clean comedy, faith-based series, uplifting dramas, inspiring documentaries, and nothing questionable sneaking in. It's the kind of place where you just press play and relax without thinking twice.

I’m a conscientious objector and abhor violence, but I watch westerns.

I don’t watch them for the violence.
You make it sound like gun-porn.

Speaking of which...

It’s fascinating to see classics from the 50s and 60s (those John Wayne westerns and Hitchcock thrillers) sitting right alongside newer films.
Ahh, westerns. For a friend's birthday party, his mom took us to see The Cowboys. John Wayne was the big name, but I thought Roscoe Lee Browne stole the show:

Just in case anyone is interested...The Count of Monte Cristo is on PBS tonight. It's a newer serial version. I watched one episode last Sunday and it was good. Will watch tonight.

This short video is interesting... @Matthias adapting the 1,000 page novel into the serial.

I came across The Count of Monte Cristo on the Tubi app...the version with Jim Caviezel playing the count. It held my interest, was well made and the scenery was good.

Jim Caviezel lost a lot of roles in movies because he is a devout Christian.

YouTube has the movie...

I took my wife to watch the movie today. While I wouldn’t classify it as one of my favorites, it is a movie that I would watch again and I believe it worthy of your time and attention.

I hadn't heard of this movie. Was it playing in a regular theatre? I see it took place in my home State of Pennsylvania. Pennsylvania was founded by a Quaker, William Penn.

I rarely watch movies now because they are so poorly made. Theres always some woke message and it gets quite predictabe. The series of super hero movies has become predictable and have the same predictable plots. Though I did like the first remake of Batman and the Joker more recently.

But I mostly like true stories where people overcame the odds. Movies like the Shawshank redemption or about history and period dramas.

Here are some others I like
Apocalypto
Schindler's List
Kingdom of Heaven
Cadillac Records
Hacksaw Ridge
The Imitation Game
Red Dog (about a real outback dog who became a legend).
Arthur the King (about a stray dog who became a national hero)
The Revenant
The Lost City of Z
Unbroken
42 (about the first black baseballer)
The Theory of Everything (about Stephen Hawking)
Jungle (about a guy who gets lost and left for dead in the Bolivian jungle)
Lion (2016) (about a lost 5 year old Indian boy who ended up finding his mother after 25 years of searching)
The Social Network
Alive (1993) (about a Uruguayan rugby team that crash lands in the Andes)
Maestro
12 Years a Slave
The Trial of the Chicago 7
