I'm going to be brutally honest here. I've only been able to get along with progressive Christians. Why? Because they don't walk around thinking they have the absolute truth. Progressive Christianity makes sense to me, fundamentalist doesn't. I know fundamentalists don't like hearing this and will find every reason in the world to justify/project their fear of God and hell onto me with their sky daddy issues. They think I can't handle their so called absolute truth but really they can't handle that there's no absolute truth. Don't get me wrong, we all have opinions and different point of views, but it ends there. There is no objective morality, there is no absolute truth. Even this thread is just me sharing a point of view. All religions have value but the problem is when someone develops a 'religious ego' where they will look down on everyone else who doesn't believe what they do. Why am I picking on fundamentalist Christianity in particular? Because it's the #1 religion and it's been around for a while which are attractive aspects, but it does not make it the absolute truth whatsoever. In fact, fundamentalist Christianity has been on the decline and is even projected to be overtaken by Islam here in the next few decades. All I'm saying is, there is nothing religious about walking around proclaiming that your religion is the ultimate truth and everyone else is wrong.

I've also been seeing a strong correlation between fundamentalist Christians and an appeal to narcissistic authoritative figures such as Trump and Putin.

The thing to remember is the witness of Scripture; this must come before the imperfections of those who profess to follow the Lord.

The scripture is useful but by no means do I consider it to be the word of God. I just don't understand why people have to take up these extremes and completely hate on scripture or be fanatical about it.

Those who witnessed Jesus' resurrection is highly debatable as well. If I can't fully trust what I see, I know damn well I can't fully trust what someone else sees either. Those witnesses from over 2000 years ago was during a time when there was hardly any science which makes it even worse. I've looked into it, it's all he said-shesaid hearsay. 'Convincing signs' get passed off as absolute evidence. There's a saying that the truth is always in the middle. Maybe Jesus did exist...and if he did he was an ordinary man who exuded divine qualities just like the Buddha for example.

Well, until Scripture is acknowledged to be the Word of God, it's hard to dialogue. Because from the start one is speaking at cross-purposes. John 3.16

And I'm going to be brutally honest here. YOU CAN'T HANDLE THE TRUTH. Indeed you hate the truth, since there is such as thing as Absolute Truth. And Jesus Himself is "the Truth".

Fundamentalist Christians do not need to defend themselves since they simple believe what God has said. "Progressives" are essentially unbelievers.

The Muslims believe their Quran is the word of God. Christians are not the only ones who think their book is the word of God.

There is NO ABSOLUTE TRUTH to handle! I think YOU can't handle the truth that there's none. When you've been indoctrinated for so long repeating the same old habits, you start to develop a strong egoic identity to the point where you believe you have the absolute truth. You don't! You weren't even born knowing any of this stuff. I understand it gives you a sense of comfort that you think you know but you really don't know anything in the end! This is my entire point. There is a reason why Christianity gets a bad rap and fundamentalists get called 'Bible thumpers'. They're at war with the secular world.

Progressive Christians are what I'd consider to be normal Christians. They see value in Jesus' teachings, but they are not fanatics. Being fanatical about anything is just plain toxic.

Only narcissists think they know the absolute truth. They have no humility to admit that they just don't know anything at the end of the day.

Knowledge is not knowing, it's accumulated dead information. The whole knowledge of the Bible and Jesus is accumulated information, none of us here are born with it. When you take someone you've learned as the absolute, you have lost your humanity.

No.27 "Infiltrate the churches and replace revealed religion with “social” religion. Discredit the Bible and emphasize the need for intellectual maturity, which does not need a “religious crutch.”

That is from the 1958 book by ex-FBI agent Cleon Skousen called The Naked Communist that listed 45 strategic points the Soviet Communists developed in their long-range strategy against the Western Christian nations. Those strategic points were entered into the U.S. Congressional Record in 1963. (see The 45 Communist Goals - Congressional Record 1963)

The younger generations today are not familiar with Communism and their long-range 1958 strategy against the West. Most of the younger generation isn't even familiar with the meaning... of Communism. And if one will take notice, that word "communism" is rarely used in today's media. Supposedly, Communism failed in the Reagan-Gorbachev era when the Berlin Wall came down. That it ended of course is a myth.

The NEW WORD FOR COMMUNISM today is 'PROGRESSIVE'. The political Progressives today represent many of the old world Communism ideas.

What exactly does that No.27 Soviet strategic point involving the Churches mean??

One of the things the Bolshevik Communist Lenin said about Communism was, "socialism is communism." So when the Soviets use the phrase "social" religion, that is what they are pointing to, a Socialist type of teaching about The Bible based on Communist thought. That idea immediately attacks... The Bible, because God's Word can ONLY EVER be 'revealed' to man, and that by The Holy Spirit from God Himself. That is how God gave His Word through man's hand to write it down, and by The Holy Spirit is how it MUST be understood.

Thus Fundamentalist Christianity attempts to remain CLOSE to what God's written Word REVEALS, regardless of what men think.

Progressive Christianity seeks to supplant what God's Word REVEALS with man's ideas of Socialism, which essentially means Communism today. Do not be deceived by their usage of the word "progressive", for they are only using that in place of the words, socialism and communism. And Communism is actually ATHEIST in origin, and has the philosophy that any act is justified... as long as it reaches their goal.

Progressives want to persecute those of us that stand by God's commandment regarding homosexuality. Naturally, therefore, I prefer the company of fundamentalists.

You say there is no absolute truth. How can you be sure that were wrong, then?

You believe were wrong. How are you different?

Isn't this just your opinion?

@Animal2692

Imagine we were all born into a really large room with no windows and only one door that was locked. What would those inside the large room resort to? Many would offer wisdom on life according to the large room. Some would examine the scientific make up of the room and its contents. Some would offer philosophical means of understanding life in the large room. Some would just accept things as they are. Others would work, sell their goods, and try to profit pulling themselves up by their own bootstraps. And teachers would teach.

But who inside the large room would actually be able to offer anyone else in the large room anything of truth beyond the walls of that large room--about the bigger questions of life outside?

The answer is-- No one. No one--not you, not me, not the intelligent, not the common--no one.

In fact, the only way that anyone could ever possibly actually know anything about the greater truths of life and what lies beyond the walls of the large room where all are born within that same limitation...is if the information came...from...the...outside...in. Period.

That is not arrogance or any other possible assumption--that, by a small comparative example, is "absolute truth."

And that is what the record down throughout all of the history the world is, and why Christianity is the largest belief--because it is made up of the firsthand witness of personal contact with the outside.

But you are right--if someone came around saying, "Hey, you're going to think I'm crazy--but I heard from the outside!"

And so it goes.

But someone who is actually intelligent...would begin to connect the dots. And people do. And some, thinking it less crazy, in the quiet places of their large room life, carefully look to see that no one is watching--and begin to talk to that unseen God who they have only heard rumors of...and to some--He answers. I am such a one.

And so it goes.

I have a mate who says he is a Fundamentalist ! but in this relation as to what his Fundamentalist position I see also another type of Fundamentalist Christians as well that are not as radical as him ? at all, he is very much like a Islamic Fundamentalist attitudes that is so radical and so self righteous, he is right and demands all much only listen to him, he is the authority over all he talks to apart from them higher than him in his sect.
The others who may claim to be Christian Fundamentalist are nothing like him at all, but yes I do agree to the Bible being the Fundamental foundation to the truths that The Bible will exposes all who disregard it. not to mention the same with people who try and bastardise the Word ! We do have bad messengers of the Bible in this world and bad Bibles as well that have been bastardised, that they produce no fruit their of, because they are devoid of the Holy Spirit.
It's the Holy Spirit that enlightens the Bible truly to all.
But one who only looks to the Book ? as the word, does not cut it truly at all, because they are on a mans works ego trip that's devoid of the Holy Spirit.

My Fundamentalist mate does not believe in the Holy Spirit at all ! he is looking for Jesus ! because he has not been found ! he needs the 2ed coming. I do not need the second coming because I am Saved, one can not get saved a 2ed time.

Socratic Ignorance will get you nowhere.... "ever learning and never arriving at truth" as scripture puts it. What you need to do is use Pauline ignorance: " To know nothing save Christ and Him Crucified", from this basis you will arrive at all truth. For in that Single act of the creator dying for the creation is love defined.
