Often times when I'm looking for an answer to a verse in Scripture, I study its opposite.

So in your example, we are looking for the origins of these 'Sons of God'. How did they get here?

Let's look at its opposite...

Matthew 1:23
"Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us"

Thus, if Jesus descended and became born of a Virgin, then perhaps the exact opposite happened with the Sons of God.
  • Instead of 'descending' they 'fell'.
  • Instead of being born of a Virtuous Virgin they were born of Non-Virtuous Harlots.
The bottom line here is that the Women who gave birth to the Nephilim may not have had Earthly Fathers just as Jesus didn't.

In other words, the Sons of God violated protocol in a very serious way...

Jude 1:6
"And the angels which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation, he hath reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgment of the great day"

"Sons of God" are all angels God created, both good and those who had fallen.

Job 1:
6 Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the Lord, and Satan also came among them. 7 And the Lord said to Satan, “From where do you come?”

So Satan answered the Lord and said, “From going to and fro on the earth, and from walking back and forth on it.”

8 Then the Lord said to Satan, “Have you considered My servant Job, that there is none like him on the earth, a blameless and upright man, one who fears God and shuns evil?”

Daughters of man were descendants of Adam and Eve, but not descendants in the line of Seth who took Abel's place. Seth's line went to Noah, then the Messiah. So the daughters of Cain's line or another brother or sister.

Jude 1:6
6 And the angels who did not keep their proper domain, but left their own abode, He has reserved in everlasting chains under darkness for the judgment of the great day.

2 Peter 2:
4 For if God did not spare the angels who sinned, but cast them down to hell and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved for judgment; 5 and did not spare the ancient world, but saved Noah, one of eight people, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood on the world of the ungodly

1 Corinthians 11:(regarding a woman wearing a covering over her hair.
10 For this reason the woman ought to have a symbol of authority on her head, because of the angels.

We know that the third of the angels that fell with Satan are not in hell. They are demons. Evil spirits. So these particular angels were the ones from Genesis 6.

The spawning of the Nephilim happened again centuries after the flood when other fallen angels did the same thing and their offspring produced Goliath and his brothers and that whole nation. That is why God commanded they kill everyone, including children. The weren't all human.

Elsewhere in the Old Testament, the term “sons of God” can refer to angelic beings (e.g. Job 1:6). We do know that Adam was not the only entity to rebel against his Creator. Some of the angels had also turned against God and turned into demons - and the human race (now multiplying and spreading throughout the world) was becoming a spiritual battleground.

But did humans (can humans) really mate with spirit beings? We are told that angels, being immortal, do not reproduce (Mark 12:25) - so it seems reasonable to infer that demons don’t either. So whatever was going on between demons and the human race, sexual intercourse (and the creation of half-human, half-demon hybrids) doesn’t seem to be the explanation. Maybe the line of Seth was intermarrying with the line of Cain, and becoming ‘infected’ with a godless worldview. Or maybe the ‘intermarriage’ was of the spiritual type, and they were simply developing a fascination with the occult.

Whatever it was, the result was “the Nephilim” - men of great power, either because they were totally unscrupulous (like Lamech the descendant of Cain) or because they had demonic assistance. “They were the heroes of old, men of renown.” (verse 4) We are still awed by powerful men (and women), and we admire them; but in God’s eyes, this kind of power (the power obtained by ‘selling out’ to Satan) is ugly and unnatural.

Did you not observe they were called the "sons of God"? Are males going to mate with each other? Does God have to tell the angels not to be homosexuals? The angels of God are ministering angels. Their focus is not on each other but on God. It is just as Paul said when he wished we were all like him; single and focused only on the ministry at hand.

Addressing the OP, the term sons of God is never addressed about angels. and the sons of God in Genesis 6, and Job 38 are not angels there either. this term is addressed to humans or........ another natural nature.

the sons of God in Genesis 6 are humans who was the sinless offspring of the sinless Adam and Eve that they had in the garden of Eden before their fall into sin. and the daughter of men are those from Adam fallen line signify sinfulness, (sinners). There are two lines from Adam, a fallen line that wer are in, or was in SIN. and there is a line that is holy from Adam, before christ came. The bible was written to the fallen line to show us the way back to Paradise.

Now the sons of God in Job 38 are not angels as said, but……. used as a metaphor for the sun and the moon....

As for the Book of Job where Satan was there, God pointed out Job twice during this presentation of the sons of God. I tend to believe that your supposition that the sons of God were of the lineage of Seth as referring to Israel's family tree or their roots is the only reason the term sons of God was being used.

There were other lineages besides Cain and Seth, who had replaced Abel after his murder. Adam and Eve had other children besides Cain & Abel for Cain to take a wife just as Adam and Eve continued to have other sons and daughters after Seth.

If we look at how the sons of God is being used in the N.T. in how sons of God used to be identified with or by.. we can see this truth.

John 1:12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:
13 Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.

So that underlined portion was how the sons of God came to be per the O.T., but now, Christians are the sons of God. Since angels are not marrying nor given in marriage, and God would not join a fallen angel to a woman in "holy matrimony", let alone a fallen angel be able to change his own self to suddenly be able to multiply when God did not create angels to multiply at all, then the sons of God were godly men of Seth that had married outside that godly lineage. It also shows the consequence to the now new nation of Israel not to marry outside the nation of Israel.

Luke 20:34 And Jesus answering said unto them, The children of this world marry, and are given in marriage: 35 But they which shall be accounted worthy to obtain that world, and the resurrection from the dead, neither marry, nor are given in marriage: 36 Neither can they die any more: for they are equal unto the angels; and are the children of God, being the children of the resurrection.

Just remember...

The KJV uses the word 'Giants' because they were BIG and FEROCIOUS... not because they were 'famous'.

Those that go down the path of 'Serpent Bloodlines', 'RH- Bloodtypes', 'Superior/Inferior Races' etc., are headed for disaster.

Ordinary Humans can *NOT* give birth to what is described all throughout Scripture. Proceed with caution.

The KJV uses the word 'Giants' because they were BIG and FEROCIOUS... not because they were 'famous'.

Seeing how the giants were the offsprings of the sons of God marrying outside of that godly lineage, I can understand how they might be considered famous but they are still men, even if they are renown.

Genesis 6:2 That the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose. 3 And the Lord said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years.4 There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown.

Those that go down the path of 'Serpent Bloodlines', 'RH- Bloodtypes', 'Superior/Inferior Races' etc., are headed for disaster.

Yeah.. probably sourced that from Jewish fables or something similar. I agree that is not what the scripture is conveying at all.

Ordinary Humans can *NOT* give birth to what is described all throughout Scripture. Proceed with caution.

Daughters of men will produce men, regardless that some of them were giants.

So when the sons of God, as of the lineage of Seth, did marry outside of their godly line to the daughters of men, that is how the giants came about. If you note the godly living for how those that had remained godly lived long lives like Noah, then you can imagine why the physical attributes would result in having giants for marrying outside that godly line where they had ceased to be godly & yet God limited their days to 120 years as a result.

Genesis 6:4 "There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown."

To understand who they, The Nephilim/Giants were, one need to understand their origins, and where their place was, A. before the flood, and B. after the flood in the scriptures. The scripture that reveals it all for us before and after the flood is Genesis 6:4 "There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown”.
The key phrase in the verse is, “the same, (giants), became mighty men”. BINGO, there is our first step in identifying who these Giants/Nephilim are. these giants/Nephilim became know as "MIGHTY MEN" in the bible. knowing that, let's zero in on "MIGHTY MEN". the definition. Mighty Men: H1368 גִּבּוֹר gibbowr (ghib-bore') adj, here mean, גִּבֹּר gibbor (ghib-bore') [shortened]
1. powerful. 2. (by implication) a warrior, tyrant. [intensive from the same as H1397]
KJV: champion, chief, X excel, giant, man, mighty (man, one), strong (man), valiant man.

The KJV can translate the word, Nephilim as, the Giants also as a man, but notice “MIGHTY MAN”. but these men was from human parents, and not a mix of angels and human woman, nor from the seth line.

Understand, our term Giant/Nephilim here, it identifies what we’re looking for in this topic. there are two types of mighty men A. “Mighty Men” in valor. B. "Mighty Men" in Stature, both have human beginning, or parents. So our first clue tells us to look for "mighty men” in the bible, either of A. in valor. B. in Stature/Height.

Now, before the flood, we say that the sons of God who had these giants, these Nephilim, these “mighty men” was ordinary men and women, AND NOT ANGELS. We can prove this by revealing who these giants, these Nephilim, these “mighty men” are after the flood and then we can understand who they are before the flood, and see that they had ordinary human fathers and mothers.

We will look at the two types of Nephilim, according to the bible. the Giants, men in stature and the Mighty Men in valor, whom all had Ordinary parents. Nothing supernatural here.

MIGHTY MEN

Type I. “Mighty Men”, Ordinary men of valor, “A Warrior”.

Type II. “Mighty Men”, Ordinary men in stature, “A Giant”

Type 1. “Mighty Men”. Ordinary men of valor, “A Warrior”.
Follow the bible. as stated above the Nephilim/giants are the Mighty men. a "Mighty Man" known as a Nephilim dose not always mean in "height" only, but we’re going to look at that also. it can mean a STRONG MAN, a VALIANT MAN, or a WARRIOR in battle. again look at the definition above again to be sure. My source for this definition is from, Mickelson's Enhanced Strong's Dictionaries of the Greek and Hebrew Testaments.

So lets find these “mighty men”/Nephilim, and trace them back to their origins. don't let Nephilim stick in your head only as GIANTS in stature ONLY. The tradition of men have planted this notion in men heads that Nephilim are only giants, but the bible is clear. as our apostle said, leave those old wives, and fairy tails behind, and re-new your mind in the knowledge of Christ.

king David, and some of his men was identified as MIGHTY MEN who killed a lot of other men. Let’s catalogue David's mighty men. In 2 Samuel 23:8 read through to the end of the chapter. Two things to notice in 2 Samuel 23. in verse 8 we have the term “Mighty Men” which is the same term used in Genesis 6, here it is again, H1368 גִּבּוֹר gibbowr (ghib-bore') adj. גִּבֹּר gibbor (ghib-bore') [shortened]
1. powerful. 2. (by implication) a warrior, tyrant.
KJV: champion, chief, X excel, giant, man, mighty (man, one), strong (man), valiant man.
Root(s): H1397

The exact same word used in Genesis 6 for giants/Nephilim. also notice 2 Samuel 23:18 "And Abishai, the brother of Joab, the son of Zeruiah, was chief among three. And he lifted up his spear against three hundred, and slew them, and had the name among three.

Here, the "NAME" is the Hebrew word, H8034 שֵׁם shem (shame) n-m.
1. an appellation, as a mark or memorial of individuality.
2. (by implication) honor, authority, character.
[a primitive word (perhaps rather from H7760 through the idea of definite and conspicuous position)]
KJV: + base, (in-)fame(-ous), named(-d), renown, report.
Root(s): H7760

did one see how it could be translated in the KJV? ..... "renown" just as in Genesis 6:4 "There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown".

there it is "renown" and theses men, these “mighty men” had a reputation of being KILLERS of other men. Because another word for “RENOWN” is reputation. Meaning, The condition of being known or talked about by many people. They had reputation of being killers of men, as David was. 1 Samuel 29:5 & 6 "Is not this David, of whom they sang one to another in dances, saying, Saul slew his thousands, and David his ten thousands?". See these men killed, or was killer, or as the definition define them as “Warriors”. That’s why the Lord said in Genesis 6:5 & 6 "And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually." 6 "And it repented the LORD that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart." there was lots of violence, killing, spilling of blood in the Land, hence the flood. notice these mighty men of David had HUMAN PARENTS, no angels in involved. In today’s language these men would be recognized as modern day mercenary for their great valor in fighting. So clearly the bible tells us that these type of Mighty Man/Nephilim is associated with violence, the spilling of blood in the land, was killers of other men. And David was a MIGHTY MAN himseld as said, 1 Samuel 16:18 "Then answered one of the servants, and said, Behold, I have seen a son of Jesse the Bethlehemite, that is cunning in playing, and a mighty valiant man, and a man of war, and prudent in matters, and a comely person, and the LORD is with him." and David had human parents.

the other types of men, type II “Mighty men” who are tall in stature, known as GIANTS, and who also have human origins.

maybe I'll post it if intrested.

The whole point of the reference of the "sons of God" was for Israel's family tree.

Luke 3:38 Which was the son of Enos, which was the son of Seth, which was the son of Adam, which was the son of God.

So Seth was the godly line of Israel for why the sons of God reference was being used.

Now that the New Covenant has come, believers in Jesus Christ are the sons of God now.

John 1:12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: 13 Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.

The giants are a result of the sons of God marrying outside of their godly lineage to other family relations of men. This falling away from godly practices by marrying outside of that godly lineage also served as a warning to the nation of Israel not to marry outside of the nation of Israel.

First thanks for your response, second, Seth was not Godly, he had his father Adam sin nature. but the scripture are clear. Genesis 4:26 "And to Seth, to him also there was born a son; and he called his name Enos: then began men to call upon the name of the LORD". not in Seth time, but during Enos time, and that was only "calling on the name of the LORD". for whosoever call upon his name shall be saved. shall is future tense, for Christ haven't came and died yet. so that line of reasoning is out.

they call on the name to be save. even Noah who was perfect was not sinless.

I cannot find that to be true only in the case if the marrying spouse leads one away from God. there was a many israelites who married out side of Israel, one good example was Moses, who was married to a midianite, or Joseph, who married an Egyptian, from where two tribes of Israel came from, Ephraim and Manasseh. but there are many more.

there maybe some insight in the book of Enoch or book of Jasher (both books mentioned in the bible). if memory serves in Enoch the "watchers" maybe the same as "sons of God" fallen. I could be wrong there you will have to read for yourself.
the most reliable book of Enoch is said to be in the Ethiopian bible. Jasher, I don't know how reliable that maybe. thing is they weren't maintain and grieved over like what is in the bible today so who knows. but there is some reliability to Enoch's book.

one thing for sure if you read chapters 40 and 41 there is no doubt that the God of Enoch was Present in Jesus Christ.

What you have shared is true but there is an oversight in your application.

Let us consider the phrase "then began men to call upon the name of the LORD". For that phrase to be true as "men", as in plural, then Seth & Enos is counted for that phrase to be true. So when Seth whom had replaced Abel, being singular, the phrase could not apply to him yet, but that does not necessarily meant he did not begin the practice of calling on the name of the Lord since he was born to replace godly Abel.

But many Israelites have married outside the nation of Israel that had led them astray. The Samaritans in Jesus's time were to be shunned by the Jews. When Jesus spoke to the Samaritan woman at the well, His disciples were in wonderment about Him for talking with her as an example.

John 4:27 And upon this came his disciples, and marvelled that he talked with the woman: yet no man said, What seekest thou? or, Why talkest thou with her?

So in the case of the godly lineage of Seth before the flood, apparently many departed from the godly practices of that godly lineage for why Noah and his family were only found to be in favor in the eyes of the Lord. That what had happened when the sons of God had married the daughters of men, obviously, the majority had given up their godly practices in favor of violence and dominion by the time of Noah.

the most reliable book of Enoch is said to be in the Ethiopian bible.

One thing you need to watch out for and to discern are frauds. The area of Alexandria was well known for poetic licensing.

The reasons why the lost books of the Bible are not in scripture is because they run contrary to the accepted scripture.

You can discern this with the Lord when you ask Him to help you see why the Book of Enoch is not scripture because it too is running contrary against scripture. If I recall correctly, in chapter 18 of the Book of Enoch, certain elements of creation were being punished in Heaven for not coming forth when God had spoken, which is a lie and running against scripture that God's word will never return void.

Isaiah 55:11 So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.

So is God a liar or is the Book of Enoch is? No contest there. Course, that is not the only thing in the Book of Enoch running against scripture, but since no lie can be of the truth, you can dismiss it as a fraud.

Any verses quoted exactly is plagiarism. Note the plagiarized verses and see how the rest hardly seem to be written in the same style or "Spirit".

But only the Lord can show that to you that the Book of Enoch is not scripture at all.

As for Jasher.. if that is one of the lost books, again... you have to accept the truth that scripture cannot be broken nor have scripture running against scripture as the Lord can only confirm that to you thru the Holy Spirit in you.

What you have shared is true but there is an oversight in your application.

Let us consider the phrase "then began men to call upon the name of the LORD". For that phrase to be true as "men", as in plural, then Seth & Enos is counted for that phrase to be true. So when Seth whom had replaced Abel, being singular, the phrase could not apply to him yet, but that does not necessarily meant he did not begin the practice of calling on the name of the Lord since he was born to replace godly Abel.
first thanks for the reply, second, men had been pleasing God as was with Able, long before this. I don't want to hurt your beliefs but Adam had childern, (sons) in the Garden before he had Cain and Able. and before Seth came on the scene . as said, don't want to hurt your beliefs, from Adam comes a Godly line that we have no clue about only bit and pieces. these sons in Genesis 6 is the offspring of Adam and Eve before they fell into sin. this is what missing in your understanding as to who these sons of God are in Genesis 6.

But many Israelites have married outside the nation of Israel that had led them astray. The Samaritans in Jesus's time were to be shunned by the Jews. When Jesus spoke to the Samaritan woman at the well, His disciples were in wonderment about Him for talking with her as an example.
Samaritans was of the Nothern tribes, only intergated with other nations. that's all.

I do not believe Adam and Eve had children in the garden before Cain and Abel. I believe after being kicked out of the garden, and after Cain & Abel were born, they had other children before Cain and Abel had grown up to when Adam was about 130 years old because that was when Seth was born to replace Abel that was murdered. So Adam and Eve had other children besides Cain & Abel for until Abel was murdered by Cain. That was why Cain was afraid for his life that he would be a fugitive and a vagabond because any one that finds him would kill him because they are all family to him as well as to Abel. There was no place on earth he could hide and so God put that mark on Cain to protect him so he could settle down, marry a relative and build a city. And then after Seth, Adam and Eve, did have other children afterwards as well. They were commanded to multiply.

Samaritans was of the Nothern tribes, only intergated with other nations. that's all.

Thanks for sharing, but still, Jews do separate themselves from them. That was why the parable that Jesus told of the Good Samaritan helping that beaten up and robbed Jew was so profound.
