See The ‘Hunter’s Moon Eclipse’ Rise With Jupiter: The Night Sky This Week

Each Monday I pick out the northern hemisphere’s celestial highlights (mid-northern latitudes) for the week ahead.

I love the sky but sadly there aren't many stars to see because of light pollution. I always look out my window after dark and if the sky is clear there a couple of stars/planets visible as well as the moon too on clear nights. Last year I had prayed that I wanted to see stars and asked God to cause the street light to go out. He didn't do that but in March last year I went to Snowdonia in Wales on a short break and the cottage was in the middle of nowhere. And on our first night there the sky was so clear I could see millions of stars. It was so beautiful.

We used to take our telescope out into the countryside and look at the stars several times a year. Would get a new map each year that had time, direction, what you were looking at.
Now we live in the country, on a clear night can see the stars, but pooo, our telescope was stolen. :-(
Best place to see, what Smithsonian was demonstrating is up in the mountains, of course on a clearing. Have seen that. It does look like that. Unbelievably Beautiful!!

My understanding was the project captured the constellations,etc...over those featured cities and then superimposed the lightless cityscape in the foreground. So that the public could see what city lights obscured in their particular city.

I think it's a beautiful collection.

I've seen pictures of the night sky in Alaska. I can't imagine living under a roof at night with all that majesty twinkling above.

When we were on holiday in the New Forest when my son was about 15 Ray stopped the car in the middle of nowhere and got out with our lad. Ray put his arm round Gareth and said that all those stars would still be there when Ray no longer was and when Gareth looked at the stars he would remember that night and how much he was loved.

That image looks like northern lights ie.. (a___ borealis) can’t spell it, In the US nearer to the Canadian border, during certain summer nights, in dark areas, you can see color streaks in the sky. Have seen that a few times. Not as majestic as that photo. But very Beautiful.

There have been sightings of it - Aurora Borealis or northern lights - here in the UK this year, specially in our more northern areas. It's quite unusual for us to get to see the lights. Gorgeous colour, green, blue and pink mostly but no stars.

There is a guy (can’t remember his name) that is sort of a chaser of the northern lights and captures them on videos and photo stills. Fascinating!

There is a guy (can’t remember his name) that is sort of a chaser of the northern lights and captures them on videos and photo stills. Fascinating!

I would love to see them - perhaps I'll be able to from heaven. But I would also love to see the stars again. We took them for granted and now we can't see them unless we are in the middle of nowhere. I'm still hoping for a power cut one of these crisp dark cloudless nights.

I’m leaning toward the corrupt govy’s having on their crooked backroom round table, to control the electrical grid with broad blackouts. Perhaps the glass will be half full and you be able to see the stars should blackouts occur. It’s like taking a black piece of paper and shaking a salt shaker over it. It actually makes the constellations hard to recognize, but none the less is amazing.
