They were simply relying on themselves and not Christ.Paul said they were “ Fallen from Grace” ,
You're ignoring the "through faith" part of the verse (by the way, so does Andrew Farley). You did not highlight it.Rather,
1 Peter 1:3-5
3) Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,
4) To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you,
5) Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.
You do not "keep yourself saved". God does that.
Much love!
5) Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.
Paul said there is no boast in having faith. Boasting is excluded in justification by faith.......if you think that it's on you to maintain faith in Christ, so that your salvation continues, then you are looking at this as a reward for performance.
You reject the Biblical teaching that you 'make your calling and election sure' by doing works. You make my point....I don’t “ reject “anything that’s in Scripture .... you merely think that I do....I got things that I believe that YOU reject.....so there you go....my point is made...
You're ignoring the "through faith" part of the verse (by the way, so does Andrew Farley). You did not highlight it.
The keeping power of God comes to us "through faith". Peter says we are kept by the power of God THROUGH FAITH. You have to have faith to have the keeping power of God. You say you do not.
Are you of the mind that this mean to make it certain? Something you can know for sure? You reject the Biblical teaching that you 'make your calling and election sure' by doing works.
Just the same, if you are of the mind that you are keeping yourself saved by making sure you continue to have 'saving faith' than this is nonetheless a "reward for performance" system.Paul said there is no boast in having faith. Boasting is excluded in justification by faith....
...so as to be just and the one who justifies those who have faith in Jesus.
27Where, then, is boasting? It is excluded. Romans 3:27
This is really the bottom line here to me. Either our salvation is something we did or are doing, or something God did, or does. It's like in Romans, Abraham,
Romans 4:20
He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God;
This also is Passive Voice. Abraham was strengthened in faith, giving glory to God. God did it. He receives the glory.
You reject the Biblical teaching that you 'make your calling and election sure' by doing works.
You have to keep believing to be saved.
Either our salvation is something we did or are doing, or something God did, or does.
We stagger not at the promises of God as He strengthens us in faith, and this too gives God the glory.
Much love!
What I'm seeing are fundamental misunderstandings about what justification and rebirth are.
We really need to start at beginner's level.
Much love!
It means the person who wants to do right sins is doing it because of the flesh, not because he's seeking to sin. He's doing it out of ignorance of who and what he is in Christ. Therefore it is no longer I that sin, but sin which lives in me.
What does this mean?
Then why wasn't the 'believing' I had to do to be saved my savior? So, when you try to stay saved by "believing", then believing has become your savior.
It means the person who wants to do right sins is doing it because of the flesh, not because he's seeking to sin. He's doing it out of ignorance of who and what he is in Christ. That's in contrast to the person who thinks they're saved in their willful deliberate sinning. That person's mind is set on the flesh. They will not be saved when Jesus comes back. That is an unbeliever. That's the willfully sinning person in Hebrews 10:26. He's not willing to serve the Lord. He's out to serve the flesh in a rejection of Christ. His life of sin is the evidence of his rejection of Christ.
That doesn't really address the statement Paul makes. It means the person who wants to do right sins is doing it because of the flesh, not because he's seeking to sin. He's doing it out of ignorance of who and what he is in Christ.
Then why wasn't the 'believing' I had to do to be saved my savior?
I know that I have not rejected that. How do I know? I live the ever increasing righteous life of a saved person. If I still lived in sin that is how I would know you, or I, have rejected 'by grace through faith'. But as it is, I have a new life, so I know I have believed the gospel of salvation by grace through faith. And you reject, “ By Grace ye are Saved , through Faith and not by Works, lest any man should boast”
Believing is how I got saved. I had to believe in order to be saved. But that was not me earning salvation then. But having to continue in that very same believing is now suddenly me earning my own salvation?Listen.
Take Christ off the Cross, and put Him back into Heaven.
Take the Blood atonement away from John 3:16.
Now believe....believe and believe some more and hold unto your faith.
Will it save you or keep you saved?
NOT A CHANCE. !
You need to figure this out, asap.
I know that I have not rejected that. How do I know? I live the ever increasing righteous life of a saved person. If I still lived in sin that is how I would know you,.
