Moses in the old testament is compared as one who was like Jesus. He, at the Lord's command went into Eqypt to bring the children out of the land of Egypt to the promise land. After reaching the land that God had promised, there was a scouting party that went into that promise land and when they came back they did not believe they would be able to possess the land.
Deu 1:23 And the saying pleased me well: and I took twelve men of you, one of a tribe:
Deu 1:24 And they turned and went up into the mountain, and came unto the valley of Eshcol, and searched it out.
Deu 1:25 And they took of the fruit of the land in their hands, and brought it down unto us, and brought us word again, and said, It is a good land which the LORD our God doth give us.
Deu 1:26 Notwithstanding ye would not go up, but rebelled against the commandment of the LORD your God:
Deu 1:27 And ye murmured in your tents, and said, Because the LORD hated us, he hath brought us forth out of the land of Egypt, to deliver us into the hand of the Amorites, to destroy us.
Deu 1:28 Whither shall we go up? our brethren have discouraged our heart, saying, The people is greater and taller than we; the cities are great and walled up to heaven; and moreover we have seen the sons of the Anakims there.

Deu 1:34 And the LORD heard the voice of your words, and was wroth, and sware, saying,
Deu 1:35 Surely there shall not one of these men of this evil generation see that good land, which I sware to give unto your fathers,
"None of these men of this evil generation" that would mean their generation.
Forty years later they did possess the Promise Land.

Jesus was sent by his Father to bring his children out of the land of sin, into his kingdom and his chosen would not believe that their Messiah had come.
Mat 23:29 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! because ye build the tombs of the prophets, and garnish the sepulchres of the righteous,
Mat 23:30 And say, If we had been in the days of our fathers, we would not have been partakers with them in the blood of the prophets.
Mat 23:31 Wherefore ye be witnesses unto yourselves, that ye are the children of them which killed the prophets.
Mat 23:32 Fill ye up then the measure of your fathers.
Mat 23:33 Ye serpents, ye generation of vipers, how can ye escape the damnation of hell?
Mat 23:34 Wherefore, behold, I send unto you prophets, and wise men, and scribes: and some of them ye shall kill and crucify; and some of them shall ye scourge in your synagogues, and persecute them from city to city:
Mat 23:35 That upon you may come all the righteous blood shed upon the earth, from the blood of righteous Abel unto the blood of Zacharias son of Barachias, whom ye slew between the temple and the altar.
Mat 23:36 Verily I say unto you, All these things shall come upon this generation.
Mat 23:37 O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not!
Mat 23:38 Behold, your house(temple) is left unto you desolate.
Jesus was speaking to the Religious Jews during the time he walked here on earth. He told them that judgement would come upon their generation. Meaning they would not see the Heavenly Kingdom that was to come.

The following shows that 40 years is determined to be a generation.
Num 14:33 And your children shall wander in the wilderness forty years, and bear your whoredoms, until your carcases be wasted in the wilderness.
Num 14:34 After the number of the days in which ye searched the land, even forty days, each day for a year, shall ye bear your iniquities, even forty years, and ye shall know my breach of promise.
Num 14:35 I the LORD have said, I will surely do it unto all this evil congregation, that are gathered together against me: in this wilderness they shall be consumed, and there they shall die.

Jesus was crucified around 33-36 AD. Less than forty years(in their generation) later he returned in judgement, just as he said he would. The evidence of that is the fact that their house(temple) was destroyed in 70 AD.

Some are still looking for another kingdom in this world, but Abraham knew better.
Heb 11:8 By faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went.
Heb 11:9 By faith he sojourned in the land of promise, as in a strange country, dwelling in tabernacles with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise:
Heb 11:10 For he looked for a city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God.
Heb 11:11 Through faith also Sara herself received strength to conceive seed, and was delivered of a child when she was past age, because she judged him faithful who had promised.
Heb 11:12 Therefore sprang there even of one, and him as good as dead, so many as the stars of the sky in multitude, and as the sand which is by the sea shore innumerable.
Heb 11:13 These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off, and were persuaded of them, and embraced them, and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth.
Heb 11:14 For they that say such things declare plainly that they seek a country.
Heb 11:15 And truly, if they had been mindful of that country from whence they came out, they might have had opportunity to have returned.
Heb 11:16 But now they desire a better country, that is, an heavenly: wherefore God is not ashamed to be called their God: for he hath prepared for them a city.
He was looking for 'an heavenly country'.
Joh 18:36 Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world:

The following is old testament prophecy of the coming destruction of the temple of Jerusalem.
Isa 51:16 And I have put my words in thy mouth, and I have covered thee in the shadow of mine hand, that I may plant the heavens, and lay the foundations of the earth, and say unto Zion, Thou art my people.
Isa 51:17 Awake, awake, stand up, O Jerusalem, which hast drunk at the hand of the LORD the cup of his fury; thou hast drunken the dregs of the cup of trembling, and wrung them out.
Isa 51:18 There is none to guide her among all the sons whom she hath brought forth; neither is there any that taketh her by the hand of all the sons that she hath brought up.
Isa 51:19 These two things are come unto thee; who shall be sorry for thee? desolation, and destruction, and the famine, and the sword: by whom shall I comfort thee?

Read or listen to Josephus' account of the Wars of The Jews, when he speaks of the things that were going on in the temple and Jerusalem starting around 66 AD. Famine and the sword, were certainly there.

Most all understand that we do not live in what is call 'the age of law'. We live in the age of Grace and Jesus has set up his kingdom.

Anybody here that doesn't believe that?

Ok, sorry for the delay.

Psa 35:7 For without cause have they hid for me their net in a pit, which without cause they have digged for my soul.

Joseph's brothers faked his death. They threw him in a pit. Then, when the passing Midianites arrived, the brothers dragged Joseph up and sold him to the merchants for 20 pieces of silver. The brothers then dipped Joseph's coat in goat blood and showed it to their father, saying that Joseph had been torn apart by wild beasts. Indeed, those "wild beasts" were the jealous brothers.

Wild beasts are a "type" of religionists such as the ones that crucified Jesus. They cannot abide the authority of Jesus Christ in their lives so they set out to destroy Him or destroy those representing Him.

When Joseph confronts his brothers in Egypt, he recognizes them, but they failed to recognize him.

We are all "wild beasts" without Christ and whom Christ has come to many times in the past but we did not recognize Him. One day, by the grace of God, we recognized Him. Our eyes were opened.

Luke 22:31 And the Lord said, Simon, Simon, behold, Satan hath desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat:

Luke 22:32 But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not: and when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren.

And Joseph, strengthened his brethren and took care of them, too. Thought they covered him with hate and "murder", and told everyone that he was dead, Joseph covers them with love and forgiveness.

That is the difference between religion and Christ. When you finally "see" Jesus Christ, religion no longer has a hold on you. It's spell is broken and you are released to walk in love because you have been freed from fear.

Rev 19:13 And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God.

Joseph's father annointed him over his brothers. Joseph would not understand until God gave him revelation through his trials.

The Lord Jesus was sent by his Father to His brothers (Israel) to see to their well being, they rejected Him, conspiring against Him and causing His death.

When his brothers saw that their father loved him more than any of them, they hated him and could not speak a kind word to him. Their family positions were threatened by Joseph being chosen. (Gen. 37:2-4).

The Pharisees were jealous of Jesus and their positions were threatened by Him. They could not speak a kind word to Him.

Joseph's brothers rejected him, consigning him to a "pit" causing his "death".

Jesus was rejected and killed, consigned to grave (so the Pharisees thought), killed as a common criminal (sinner).

Joseph was later sold to the Midianites as a slave to sin.

Jesus had no earthly station or influence but was hung on a cross between two criminials appointed to save the world from their sins.

Joseph had no earthly station and was jailed with criminals, (two prominent ones, baker and butler) rescued the "world" from their plight.

Jesus saves one criminal (in prison to sin) and the other dies.

Joseph saves one criminal in prison and the other dies.

Jesus was given a position of prominence on earth receiving all power and authority subject only to the will of His Father.

Heb 3:6 But Christ as a son over his own house; whose house are we, if we hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm unto the end.

Joseph was given all power and authority subject only to Pharoah.

Gen 41:40 Thou shalt be over my house, and according unto thy word shall all my people be ruled: only in the throne will I be greater than thou.

The Father implements His strategy through Jesus saving us all from death. Jesus takes a Gentile Bride and He puts His brothers through a series of disastrous events designed specifically to place them entirely at His mercy and permit the revelation of His true identity. Jesus is the initiator of love and forgiveness.

Pharoah implements his strategy through Joseph, to save his people. Joseph takes a Gentile Bride and he puts his brothers through a series of testings in order to bring them to a place of utter dependence upon him. They then receive the revelation of who Joseph is. Joseph is the initiator of love and forgiveness.

A highly emotional reunion takes place between Joseph and Israel and a highly emotional reunion will take place when Israel's eyes are opened.

Rom 11:11 I say then, Have they stumbled that they should fall? God forbid: but rather through their fall salvation is come unto the Gentiles, for to provoke them to jealousy.

Rom 11:12 Now if the fall of them be the riches of the world, and the diminishing of them the riches of the Gentiles; how much more their fulness?

Rom 11:15 For if the casting away of them be the reconciling of the world, what shall the receiving of them be, but life from the dead?

Now, I am speaking figuratively since they told Joseph's father that he was dead. For all intents and purposes, Joseph was really dead, even though he was not. But his father always believed he was really dead. Jesus said, when you hate someone you commit murder. Why? Because when you hate someone you will act like they do not even exist. In your heart you have murdered them. His brothers never repented while they were apart from Joseph and kept up their deception towards their father that Joseph was dead.

Now with Jesus, His body actually was killed and all His disciples thought He was dead, but He really was not. As far as the Isaac was concerned, Joseph WAS dead.

Again, Joseph being sold to the Midianites as a "slave to sin", is typology. It was not figurative that he was sold as a slave, just typology of "slave to sin", since he was no longer a FREE man.
