Both are false statements. So kindly get your Bible out and start digging deeper. You owe it to yourself and others.
Is that all you have found in the New Testament? Go through it book by book, and line by line. And ask God to open your eyes while you read it.
One doesn't need to have a PHD in Bible history to be a good Christian. There are many Christian legalists that treat others like GARBAGE and virtually POUND others over the head with their Bible.
I think the Bible is helpful in that God and Jesus are frequently quoted in the Bible, and so we can learn much from it.
John 17:3 tells us that we have to know the only True God and the one the True God sent forth, Jesus Christ. So you do have to read the scriptures, which is how you come to know the true God and the one he sent forth Jesus Christ. Coming to know the True God and the one he sent forth helps us to come to a knowledge of them and teach us why they loved us first and so influence us to love them back. The true Christian knows the word church means congregation which is a group of people and the bible tells them to not stop meeting together.
