It is absurd to think Paul meant the completed canon of scripture.
I certainly agree with this "assessment!"
As there are more then several (how can I say) "Written Records" that "didn't make the cut" so to speak concerning that which is considered to be "canon of Scripture."
Which to me really "delegitimizes" those "believers(?)" that consider the Holy Bible as "The INFALLIBLE Word of God!"
Meaning that, If it "isn't between those covers?"
"It's NOT of or from God!"
Which may not come off as being "absurd" to "them."
But? It IS to this poster! :gd

Yes it is, it's called COMPLETED SCRIPTURE :)
No , it's not. You are reading your opinion into the text. If it is completed scripture then knowledge must also pass away.

1 Co 13:8-10
Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away. For we know in part, and we prophesy in part. But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away

How many "prophets" can pass the Deuteronomy 18:21-22 test?

21 You may say in your heart, ‘How will we know the word which the Lord has not spoken?’ 22 When a prophet speaks in the name of the Lord, if the thing does not come about or come true, that is the thing which the Lord has not spoken. The prophet has spoken it presumptuously; you shall not be afraid of him.
There is a difference to consider during these time of "greater works." What are greater works, those within the elements and confines of this world or those of the Spirit and the Kingdom of Heaven? Which is greater? And what has Christ instructed regarding things of the Spirit, are even visible like a lame man healed and able to walk?

And when did God begin to pour out His spirit upon all flesh, before or after the miracles written in the scriptures? What then of these time should we expect, healings, fire draw down from heaven--or salvation, spiritual gifts, and unseen spiritual profits laid up in heaven? And what if God's people among the times of the gentiles, are God's hands tied that He cannot send word? And what of those things written only to be revealed until just before the end--has that all been canceled because of common or most believed doctrine held by men?

Should those who live in fear of what is possibly false, just bolt the door? Is that what people want, rather than letting God be God and have Him not do what He has always done?

Spurious. There is nothing in the context (or anywhere in the letter) to indicate he has scripture in mind. In fact, to Paul, "scripture" means the Hebrew bible, which was already considered closed.
List Scripture that supports your version of "perfect is come"
Verses LB, just the verses

Yes, it is
Completed Scripture (perfect is come) has all the prophecy & knowledge we are to know.
If not, then people like Joseph Smith, Ellen G White, Mohammad, Bahai etc have every reason to be believed & trusted since they claim GOD spoke to them with revelations & prophecies not written in the Bible

"completed scripture" is not the perfect ( better translated as "completion") that Paul was speaking of. He was referring to the Lorde Jesus. False prophets do not disqualify the fact there are the true.

This looks like "Perfect":

21 Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth; for the first heaven and the first earth passed away, and there is no longer any sea. 2 And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, made ready as a bride adorned for her husband. 3 And I heard a loud voice from the throne, saying, “Behold, the tabernacle of God is among men, and He will dwell among them, and they shall be His people, and God Himself will be among them, 4 and He will wipe away every tear from their eyes; and there will no longer be any death; there will no longer be any mourning, or crying, or pain; the first things have passed away.” And He said, 'IT IS DONE'! (Revelation 21:1-6a)

[Jack Hayford taught that while the unique, foundational office of writing Scripture has ended in the 1st century (last being the Apostle John with the Book of Revelation) the spiritual gift of prophecy remains active in the church today for edification, exhortation, and comfort.

Office vs. Gift
    • The Biblical Office: The historical role of prophets who laid the absolute foundation of doctrine and scripture has ceased with the completion of the Bible.
    • The Active Gift: The Holy Spirit still gives believers the ability to share a prophetic word to encourage and strengthen others.

Purpose of Modern Prophecy
  • Edification: Building up believers in their faith.
  • Exhortation: Urging people to live closer to God.
  • Comfort: Bringing peace and healing during difficult times.] JH
Since we have the Holy Spirit, who is God, who loves, guides and directs us and the Bible (that includes hundreds of prophesies that will effect the entire world yet to be fulfilled), there is no need for that kind of Prophet. However, I suspect the Two Witnesses will hold that title when they show up. But until then, at times we may need a personal message passed on from God through others.Do we have people on this forum who comfort, edify and encourage others? Yes. Though we may have the Holy Spirit (and some may not), we can be in a dry, depressed, confused time in our lives, maybe in sin or not spiritually mature, not grounded, and not hearing the voice of God ... how else can we say it, not tuned into His frequency; THEN He sends someone else to speak to you.
  • Sometimes our parents have told us you should do this or that and we didn't listen. That's when we needed others to intervene . Likely they told us the same thing, you should listen to your parents. God tells us, you ought to do this or go this way and we don't. We dismiss the thought. So God's send you someone to get into your face ... and as we have experienced on this forum, they still don't listen!

Your opinion SW is not shared by others.
I can list/link sermon after message after teaching that rejects your claim

List them all you want, it doesn't prove the gifts of the Spirit have ceased. You have one obscure verse that you misinterpret as the gifts being done away with. I can quote message after message that reject that claim.

I have to agree with ya COMPLETELY there ShepherdsSword! The plain and simple explanation is that these believers(?) that are so sure and adamant that Spiritual Gifts have ceased?
Are
A) Blind with no eyes to see nor ears to hear.
B) Believing a lie given them by STRONG Delusion.
C) Been CUT OFF as Israel had been "cut off."
or?
