How should a Christian see the self?

How should a Christian see the self? In general, people have a carnal, selfish nature, 2 Timothy 3:

2 For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy,

Jesus calls us to deny that, Matthew 16:

24 Then Jesus said to his disciples, “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me.

The self, by nature, is carnal and selfish. We need to overcome that.

How?

For Christians, Ephesians 4:

22 to put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires,

That's the bad news, but

23 and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds, 24 and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.

That's the good news when you are born of the Paraclete.

Matthew 22:

39b You shall love your neighbor as yourself.

By loving others unselfishly (your new self). Do good things for others as you would do good things for yourself.

1 Corinthians 2:4 And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man's wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power:
5 That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.
6 Howbeit we speak wisdom among them that are perfect: yet not the wisdom of this world, nor of the princes of this world, that come to nought:
7 But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which God ordained before the world unto our glory:
8 Which none of the princes of this world knew: for had they known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.
