I heard an interesting take on being saved.
There are 2 components of being saved in heaven.
1) the act of being saved in heaven.
2) exactly where will you end up in heaven.
The first one is an act of Jesus and his grace. You cannot earn your way into heaven, it is just given to you free of charge, no matter how good or bad you are as long as you confess that Jesus is the Christ you will find yourself in heaven. And all men, as the scriptures say, will eventually fall on their knees and confess that Jesus is the Savior and will be given heaven just like all the rest.
However, the scriptures also say that men will be judged according to their works, so how does this figure in to your abode in heaven?

A sacrament is an outward efficacious sign instituted by Christ to give grace. Jesus Christ himself is the sacrament, as he gave his life to save mankind. His humanity is the outward sign or the instrument of his Divinity. It is through his humanity that the life of the Trinity comes to us as grace through the sacraments. It is Jesus Christ alone who mediates the sacraments to allow grace to flow to mankind.
