How to receive the Holy Spirit

I'd never heard of the Holy Spirit. Jesus saved me at our rural country place in the Ouachitas. I didn't know what saved was either since I did not go to church. Nevertheless He made me born again then He did the next thing. I saw a woman on TV talking about praying and speaking in some language she didn't know. Never heard of such thing. Praying and thinking of that woman, Shirley Boone, a thought said "maybe God would do that for you too". So I just started making up words and then I didn't have to. He came and did it and I didn't know what it was until later as I read the Bible.

Do reconsider.

Since Jesus Christ was in you when you were saved, then whatever came later on, that was not Him and that was not God's gift of tongues either.

You need to read the King James Bible and go before that throne of grace for His help in discerning good & evil by His words because Jesus Christ is your Good Shepherd and He will help you to follow Him, and not after signs and lying wonders. Do not follow after people when they are not preaching Jesus Christ & Him crucified, but seeking the glory of something else in His name which is not of Him at all. When that spotlight moves away from the Son, then they are no longer serving Him.

You are living in these latter days where many are falling away from the faith in giving heed to seducing spirits and doctrines of devils. 1 Timothy 4:1-2

Many are preaching to receive the Holy Spirit separate from salvation which Paul warned against such preaching to receive another spirit; 2 Corinthians 11:3-4 Especially when in according to our faith, Jesus Christ is in us ; 2 Corinthians 13:5

You do not need babbling tongues.

You can pray normally so you know what you had prayed for to give the Father thanks in Jesus's name for answered prayers.

You can be edified by the written word in the King James Bible.

You can sing to Him personally.

You are to live that reconciled relationship with God thru Jesus Christ, the Son of God also known as the Bridegroom. Keep your eyes on Him because that is Whom the Holy Spirit in you is still pointing you to go to in coming to God the Father for anything.

Only seducing spirits comings and goings will take your eyes off of the Son in the worship place to entice believers into chasing after them for a sign.

So please go before that throne of grace for help from Jesus Christ to help you shun vain & profane babbling, return to your first love, and chase no more after any spirit for a sign that others claim was the Holy Spirit when it was not so that you may be ready to go when the Bridegroom comes.

you need to actually READ the 19th chapter of Acts. Paul asked SINCE. Do not allow your dead denomination to kill off the word of God. Which scriptures has God deleted?

These men were saved, then received the FULLNESS of the Holy Spirit. If you are not a denminationalized congregationist I'll eat my hat. Say... Baptist? The ceramic Lamb is not the one to follow.

Baptism in the Holy Spirit and the gift of tongues. Read it in the KJV, my favorite and preferred translation.

The denominations deny God's gifts and calling as being "not for today, of the devil, unneeded, departure from God and etc" they sit and are transfixed by their doctor of letters and ignore the pleadings of the Holy Spirit. The Lord gave me a dream about these dead religions I call the ceramic Lamb and I will post it sometime.

Reread the reference you had quoted. Paul came across certain disciples but did not know what kind. When they did not know about the Holy Spirit, Paul asked what water baptism they were under. John the Baptist's. So that means Paul came across unbelievers that were disciples of John the Baptist's.

So Paul told them about Jesus Christ. Paul did so because they did not know that the One that John the Baptist was preaching about coming was Jesus Christ being the One that was coming.

Then they got water baptized in His name signifying that they were NOT believers in Jesus Christ BEFORE, but NOW they are.

Then they had received the promise of the Holy Spirit at their salvation.

So you made the mistake that many tongue speakers have in using that verse as if you can receive the Holy Spirit separate from salvation after a sign of tongues when Paul said in 1 Corinthians 14:22 that tongues were never to serve as a sign towards believers about anything; not about as proof that you had received the Holy Spirit nor as a sign that God is calling them into the ministry or anything as a sign towards the believers. Tongues only serve as a sign towards the unbelievers.

So please go before that throne of grace and ask Jesus for wisdom in discerning that tongue and how you got it because Paul gave the bottom line on tongues which is of other men's lips to speak unto the people in 1 Corinthians 14:20-21 AND John 16:13 testifies in ALL modern Bibles that the Holy Spirit cannot speak for Himself as He can only speak what He hears and therefore cannot turn around God's gift of tongues for His own use in prayer,

all sorts of problems and false claims etc arise as a consequence of Pentecost being misunderstood and misinterpreted imho - what is mostly claimed is ego inflation a bit like being born again and created in the image and likeness of God - what is doubted is in scriptures at Jn 14:17 - speaking in tongues was necessary as a foreign language because the Apostles were required to go out into the whole world and preach and teach and nothing was to be said other than what Jesus said etc - twinc

I could say the same. Nevertheless, as soon as we join with other believers we are in a 'denomination' of some kind (even if it's the "non-denominational" denomination!). The denominations don't 'own' us, nor do they (in most cases) impose particular doctrines on us. I have changed denomination many times, but not changed my beliefs as a result. The Holy Spirit is not confined by denominations - in my experience, He moves in them all. There are people in all kinds of churches (including the Roman Catholic church) who speak in tongues and manifest other gifts of the Spirit.

Hello Frank..... so nice to see you here...... You should just stick to what you know, and if you want to know more, ask Jesus, who is well able to answer, either Himself or through His Holy Spirit.
It is best not to listen to everyone who wants to point you in the right direction, as mostly they are just people running around interpreting whatever is written in whatever way they understand it.
I am so happy for you and may your walk with Him, produce much fruit for His Kingdom.
