Emanations from the penumbra perhaps?

Emanations from the penumbra perhaps?
Practical application from primarily the epistles.
I also do not ignore historical details that can be found in the Bible itself.
I'm just saying that I don't like to go outside of the Bible for historical details that may convolute the message of the Bible.
I heard of one instance where a person taught that something in Revelation had to do with some kind of historical detail; and when all was said and done with the teaching, the original application of the passage was completely done away with. The historical information was used to discount the practical application of what is written in holy scripture.
I would prefer to keep the application and I don't care for that extrabiblical information if it is going to do that to the teaching of the Bible.
bingo- winner winner chicken dinner :)That would be a case of either bad hermeneutics or poor student...dunno because I wasn't there.
But in every case I've seen that proper hermeneutics requires history, anthropology, horticulture, topography, cartography, and geography...a little biology knowledge doesn't hurt either.
Otherwise it's flat reading and little substance to what has been written. The worst writer of teen novels is much more intriguing and wisdom filled than scriptures unless the proper hermeneutics are used. And you just claimed proper hermeneutics destroy scriptures.
Flat reading will result in the worst theologies that become a mishapen, opposing legalistic, holier than thou attitude that Jesus definitely took the strongest stand against.
Much can be gleaned out of the holy scriptures merely by reading them directly. That would be a case of either bad hermeneutics or poor student...dunno because I wasn't there.

Horticulture? But in every case I've seen that proper hermeneutics requires history, anthropology, horticulture, topography, cartography, and geography...a little biology knowledge doesn't hurt either.
I said, how does knowledge of horticulture, outside of what we learn in the Bible itself, affect our understanding of the scriptures themselves.horticulture examples
The parable of the sower
The cursed Fig Tree
tilling the ground
the good seed
a good tree bears good fruit
the fruit of the spirit
abiding in the vine
you are the branches
the olive branch
shall I go on ad nauseum ?
I said, how does knowledge of horticulture, outside of what we learn in the Bible itself, affect our understanding of the scriptures themselves.
All of those are examples of things that we can learn about horticulture from the Bible.
I have experiential knowledge of none of these things; and yet I can still glean from the scriptures their intended meaning when examples of horticulture are given in the Bible as parables.do you have a garden?
do you grow fruit trees ?
do you cultivate the soil ?
do you personally know from experience horticulture ?
do you know how to graft ?
do you know how to prune ?
do you know how to feed and nourish the soil ?
hope this helps !!!
That is hilarious...If you know how to read and write then you are using extra biblical knowledge to decipher scriptures.
That is hilarious...
You know, if someone wracks their brain long enough, they can come up with an answer for anything.
Well I have decades of experience so Scripture comes ALIVE with the principles Jesus taught with horticulture.
Deuteronomy 11:10-11
For the land, into which you are entering to possess it, is not like the land of Egypt from which you came, where you used to sow your seed and water it with your foot like a vegetable garden. But the land into which you are about to cross to possess it, a land of hills and valleys, drinks water from the rain of heaven,
Isaiah 58:11
“And the Lord will continually guide you,
And satisfy your desire in scorched places,
And give strength to your bones;
And you will be like a watered garden,
And like a spring of water whose waters do not fail.
Numbers 24:5-7
How fair are your tents, O Jacob,
Your dwellings, O Israel!
“Like valleys that stretch out,
Like gardens beside the river,
Like aloes planted by the Lord,
Like cedars beside the waters.
“Water will flow from his buckets,
And his seed will be by many waters,
And his king shall be higher than Agag,
And his kingdom shall be exalted.
Mark 4:31-32
It is like a mustard seed, which, when sown upon the soil, though it is smaller than all the seeds that are upon the soil, yet when it is sown, it grows up and becomes larger than all the garden plants and forms large branches; so that the birds of the air can nest under its shade.”
hope this helps !!!
The farmer knows just what to do, for God has given him understanding. … The Lord of Heaven’s Armies is a wonderful teacher and he gives the farmer great wisdom. – Isaiah 28:26-29
“This is the meaning of the parable: The seed is the word of God. 12 Those along the path are the ones who hear, and then the devil comes and takes away the word from their hearts, so that they may not believe and be saved. 13 Those on the rocky ground are the ones who receive the word with joy when they hear it, but they have no root. They believe for a while, but in the time of testing they fall away. 14 The seed that fell among thorns stands for those who hear, but as they go on their way they are choked by life’s worries, riches and pleasures, and they do not mature. 15 But the seed on good soil stands for those with a noble and good heart, who hear the word, retain it, and by persevering produce a crop. Luke 8:11-15
Jesus teaching on horticulture 101.

No...it's not that funny. You use extra biblical knowledge to interpret scriptures.
Whether you admit it or not.
Let me explain.
If you were a person who had no clue as to what a car was for. And happening upon one one day, you had figured out how to turn on the radio and concluded that the whole contraption was all about being comfortable while listening to music you would have really missed the point of the device.
The transportation elements completely missed by you. But yet you teach others that you understand everything about this device.
That's what we are telling you. You don't understand what the device is all about. You think you do...but you are missing the focus.
All things where you have not used extrabiblical information to interpret the Bible and to come up with a "better interpretation".
ROFL...
Hilarious...
This analogy breaks down at the most basic level.
A car has wheels on it and also a steering wheel; and in examining the car It is easy to make the conclusion that the wheels are intended to be for moving the vehicle and that the steering wheel is for turning the wheels. I might also be able to ascertain, merely by looking at the car, that the gas pedal is to make it go and the brake pedal is to make it stop.
If I can access the radio then I can access these other functions and can learn by trial and error how the car works for the purpose of transportation.
It would be clear to anyone looking at the whole of the car that that is what the car is for.
Someone would have to be a fool to think that its intention is merely to be comfortable while listening to music.
Anyone who knows what wheels are for would make the conclusion that the car is intended to go somewhere.
In the same way, you do not have to have a manual telling you extrabiblical information in order to understand the Bible. god gave us the Holy Spirit; and He will guide us into all truth; regardless of whether we know the details of what happened in Constantinople or WWII. All of that is extrabiblical information and does not have a bearing on the original meaning. I'm not saying that those things cannot be helpful in creating illustrations.
If any historical details have a bearing on the meaning of what we read in holy scripture, those details can be found in the pages of holy scripture.
Like you are attempting to do to me right now...Some like to tear others down and not build them up, mock people, laugh at them and argue. This is the opposite of the gift of teaching. Its proof they do not have the gift no matter what they claim.
Then why the different accounts of Judas' death?
Why the variation of the stories about the "faith of the centurion" ?
Why did Jesus walk on water?
And why is it then that almost no one knows the exact location in scriptures that Jesus spoke directly against the practice of abortion?
