Hello to everyone on this forum,
I found this board after looking online for a way to fellowship with other christian people.
I have not been able to find a good church in my area. I went to 2 churches that were within driving distance. The people were not very friendly so I didn't go back.
I found a church that was not within driving distance but streamed their Sunday sermons online live.
So I watched the sermons online for about a year and mailed checks to them as tithes & offerings.
Many of their sermons were focused on tithes & offerings and I got the impression that not giving to a church would somehow cause me to be hell-bound.
During one of the last sermons I watched online, the pastor said he wanted all the members of the church to write down and turn in a pledge of how much they could give the church over the coming year. The pastor said that giving to the church should be just like any other obligation, like your car payment or your house payment. Shortly after this sermon, I stopped watching because the more I thought about it, the more it just didn't seem right. I personally can not pledge a definite amount to a church because something unexpected, like a medical expense, could come up.
Anyway, I'm just trying to say that I have not found a church to attend in person and fellowship with other Christians but I have made a considerable effort.
I'm wondering if anyone else has encountered this kind of difficulty or maybe I'm just being too critical?
