“And when they had appointed him a day, there came many to him into his lodging; to whom he expounded and testified the kingdom of God, persuading them concerning Jesus, both out of the law of Moses, and out of the prophets, from morning till evening. And some believed the things which were spoken, and some believed not. And when they agreed not among themselves, they departed, after that Paul had spoken one word, Well spake the Holy Ghost by Esaias the prophet unto our fathers, saying, Go unto this people, and say, Hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand; And seeing ye shall see, and not perceive: For the heart of this people is waxed gross, And their ears are dull of hearing, And their eyes have they closed; Lest they should see with their eyes, And hear with their ears, And understand with their heart, And should be converted, And I should heal them. Be it known therefore unto you, that the salvation of God is sent unto the Gentiles, and that they will hear it.”

“Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord; and he shall send Jesus Christ, which before was preached unto you: whom the heaven must receive until the times of restitution of all things, which God hath spoken by the mouth of all his holy prophets since the world began. For Moses truly said unto the fathers, A prophet shall the Lord your God raise up unto you of your brethren, like unto me; him shall ye hear in all things whatsoever he shall say unto you. And it shall come to pass, that every soul, which will not hear that prophet, shall be destroyed from among the people. Yea, and all the prophets from Samuel and those that follow after, as many as have spoken, have likewise foretold of these days. Ye are the children of the prophets, and of the covenant which God made with our fathers, saying unto Abraham, And in thy seed shall all the kindreds of the earth be blessed. Unto you first God, having raised up his Son Jesus, sent him to bless you, in turning away every one of you from his iniquities.”

“And he said unto them, Ye know how that it is an unlawful thing for a man that is a Jew to keep company, or come unto one of another nation; but God hath shewed me that I should not call any man common or unclean. Therefore came I unto you without gainsaying, as soon as I was sent for: I ask therefore for what intent ye have sent for me? And Cornelius said, Four days ago I was fasting until this hour; and at the ninth hour I prayed in my house, and, behold, a man stood before me in bright clothing, and said, Cornelius, thy prayer is heard, and thine alms are had in remembrance in the sight of God. Send therefore to Joppa, and call hither Simon, whose surname is Peter; he is lodged in the house of one Simon a tanner by the sea side: who, when he cometh, shall speak unto thee. Immediately therefore I sent to thee; and thou hast well done that thou art come. Now therefore are we all here present before God, to hear all things that are commanded thee of God.”

Jesus had a lot to say about and this taught that the path to eternal life is narrow and that few find it. In Matthew 7:13-14, He said;

"Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it."
This shows that salvation is not guaranteed for everyone, and only those who stay faithful and follow His teachings will enter the Kingdom of Heaven.

Jesus also warned that some would hear the word and believe for a while, but eventually fall away. In the Parable of the Sower, He explained;

"But he who received the seed on stony places, this is he who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy; yet he has no root in himself, but endures only for a while. For when tribulation or persecution arises because of the word, immediately he stumbles." (Matthew 13:20-21).
This illustrates that some will start their walk with God but will not persevere when faced with trials or temptations.

In John 15:6, Jesus made it even clearer, saying;

"If anyone does not abide in Me, he is cast out as a branch and is withered; and they gather them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned."
Here, Jesus compares Himself to a vine and believers as branches. A branch must remain connected to the vine to stay alive and bear fruit. If a person disconnects from Christ through disobedience or unbelief, they wither spiritually and face eternal judgment.

The original apostles also confirmed this truth. Peter warned in 2 Peter 2:20-21;

"For if, after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in them and overcome, the latter end is worse for them than the beginning. For it would have been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than having known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered to them."
This shows that a person who was once saved and returns to sin is in a worse condition than before they knew the truth.

James also affirmed this truth when he said;

"Brethren, if anyone among you wanders from the truth, and someone turns him back, let him know that he who turns a sinner from the error of his way will save a soul from death and cover a multitude of sins."
This verse reveals that a believer can wander away from the truth and face spiritual death unless they repent and return to God.

The Bible does provide examples of those who lost their salvation. Judas Iscariot was one of the twelve apostles chosen by Jesus, yet he betrayed the Lord for thirty pieces of silver. Jesus Himself said about Judas;

"It would have been good for that man if he had not been born." (Matthew 26:24).
This shows that Judas was once in the faith but fell away and was lost.

Another example is Balaam, a prophet who once heard from God but later led Israel into sin for personal gain. Peter referred to him, saying,

"They have forsaken the right way and gone astray, following the way of Balaam the son of Beor." (2 Peter 2:15). King Saul is yet another example; he was chosen and anointed by God but later disobeyed and rebelled, and the Spirit of God departed from him (1 Samuel 16:14)

Jesus' words make it clear that salvation is not a one-time event but requires endurance and faithfulness until the end. As He said in Matthew 24:13, "But he who endures to the end shall be saved." Therefore, those who abide in Christ, obey His commandments, and remain faithful will receive eternal life. However, those who turn away from Him and return to sin risk losing their salvation and facing eternal separation from God: "Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus."Rev 14:12

Blessings.
I am jumping in very late on the is discussion. But the answer is NO! Once one is saved they are saved forever.

To say one can lose thier salvation is to say that jesus did not die for all a persons sins or that His blood did not remove all a persons sins.

As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction.
Hi Big Boy,
Been away a few days.

I happened to quote the above to another member here...one of many who do not understand Paul very well, but I don't think he got the jist of what I was saying. No matter. Looks like we Christians can't seem to agree on some very important matters.

They have all been taught by men who followed the reformers who followed Augustine who could not understand Greek and twisted Paul's teachings unto his own destruction as well as others who followed his false doctrine.
Amen to that!
Luther and Calvin both idolized Augustine who was not an actual Christian, he was a gnostic, a manichean monk (the Manicheans were a cult) who twisted God's Word badly.

If you ever want to know the original of all the false doctrine being taught in churches today, take a little time to study Augustine's beliefs
LOL
How do you know I haven't?!
I'm familiar with Augustine.
and keep one hand firmly on God's Word and compare what Augustine taught to God's Word and you'll see how the catholics and the reformers were led in to darkness by following Augustine's teachings which he got from the Manicheans who were gnostics.
The Catholics didn't follow all of Augustine's teachings, which came about hundreds of years after Catholicism was already firmly established (in the 5th century). The CC believes in the free will of man and that man chooses his spiritual fate.
They did accept his teaching on original sin.
He had charisma and power and was able to debate against Pelagius, so I guess that earned him something from the church he belonged to.
The whole reason Augustine "became a christian" is because the roman emperor Constantine made Christianity in to the state religion and he began repressing pagans so many of these pagans like Augustine decided to "became a christian" and brought their false doctrine with them and in doing so the true Gospel became greatly corrupted as Paul warned that it would when he left earth.
Just a slight correction, if I may.
Constantine did not make Christianity the religion of the state.
What he did was to DECRIMINALIZE Christianity so that the christians were no longer persecuted.
But, yes, he did do this because he became a Christian.
It was Theodosius who made Christianity the state religion in 380AD.

It's an interesting but very sad study but it helps to understand how so many today got deceived because the teachings of Augustine has been embedded in to what is considered to be the Gospel for centuries, so embedded that very few ever escape following false doctrine as they would be shunned and rejected by the church they attend that teaching false Augustinian doctrine either thru reformed theology or catholicism. It's really quite a mess.
As I said, Catholicism does NOT follow everything that Augustine taught....although he and Acquinas are the most revered of the Church Fathers.

I'd say that Luther, Calvin, Knox, etc. are the ones that totally changed Christianity.
NOT the Catholic church...
I know you're not going to agree with this and I don't plan on being here to defend the Catholic church.
However, this is the true history of Christianity.
Not to say that the reformation was not needed.
It certainly was.

As a young believer the older folks kept telling me I was to be a minister and they wanted me to go to Bible College but I ended up leaving that particular church when I moved to another town and I'm glad I did because had I taken them seriously and gone to Bible College I probably would have been indoctrinated in to calvinism and ended up going to hell!

Thank the Lord I dodged a satanic bullet on that deal! :csm
I don't know if Calvinists are going to hell.
I don't believe we're supposed to be judging other person's soul but we're not going to agree on this.
Depends on whether or not they really understand what they believe.
I don't think some do.
