Nice idea but wrong.
What we see when we look at light from galaxies billions of years ago is an image of what the universe was like back then. They are close together. Not close to earth. The composition of then differers from modern ones.
Your idea does not stand up to scrutiny.
It is also another csae of "God has faked the sky".
TimP You dont realize we are in agreement here .... the far reaches of space we observe are from "way back then" ... many of those stars have burned out (maybe all of them for all we know) ... yet because of the distance we still see the light
God did not have to fake the sky , it is just as we see it , the one thing
we do not understand is how he could do it all in an instant ... seems impossible to us .... the Genesis record indicates God just "spoke it into existence" ....
eg: ..."let there be light" ... "let there be planets" .... "let there be stars"

Arnie, You just said the earth is a big bang theory and all that they believe.
The Worm has Turned.
Is not the Bible wonderful?, so many mysteries, can be so misleading creating wars for many generations.
(Hi Raining) ... if I understand you .... the big bang theory could very well align with God creating the universe in an instant .... He "spoke it" and in an instant (big bang) the whole universe spread out .... including the rays of light from the stars ,
Not sure if that is what you meant .... but I agree it could be what happened.
I think the biggest difficulty for us humans and scientists down here is that we are stuck measuring everything in "time" ... whereas God operates in eternity (no time) and we cannot fathom it.
Even our most renowned atheist scientists will agree "time" only exists in the dimension we reside in
