The state of suspended animation that all humans experience after death, is for the dead person, an instant transition from life: to standing with all the rest of the dead before the Great White Throne Judgement of God. Revelation 20:11-15

Scripture says that when a person dies their soul goes back to God, who made it and because with God there is no time; then at the Great White Throne Judgement, after the Millennium, that soul; along with every soul that ever lived, is made conscious again at the time of Judgement. Revelation 20:12, There is no knowledge of any time passing between death and Judgement, just as Hebrews 9:27 says; It is the human lot to die once, then comes the Judgement.

Jesus said about Lazarus: He has fallen asleep… but then He clarified that Lazarus was really dead. John 11:11-14 Paul often mentions those who sleep in death.

So Lazarus’s resurrection was a preview of the saints raised with Jesus at His resurrection and those saints who will be raised at His Return, Revelation 20:4
They all received and will receive mortal bodies, that are subject to death again.

But as Paul tells us in 1 Corinthians 15:50-56, there will be some Christians alive at the end of the Millennium, who will never die, they will be transformed at the time of Judgement into immortality, along with all the rest whose names are written in the Book of Life.

The parable about Abraham and Lazarus, the beggar: is a scene AFTER that GWT Judgement, a homily for all to realize what our fate will be if we refuse to honor God.

The flesh we currently inhabit will not be reconstituted, those worthy to go into Eternity with God will be spiritual beings. Matthew 22:30 In the resurrection…..they are like the angels in heaven.

Job 14:10-15 When a human dies, all his power vanishes, he is like a dried up river. So mortal man lies down and never to rise, until the heavens be no more!
Lord, I ask that You hide me in the grave, conceal me until Your wrath has passed, then Lord; remember me at Your appointed time! I will wait, however long it takes for the change to come. Then, You will summon me and I will answer: I am the work of Your hands.

The sequence is:

1/ We all die. The only exceptions will be those remaining alive at the end of the Millennium. Eccl 12:7, Isaiah 38:10-11, Acts 13:36

2/ The Lord’s wrath will pass; all as is prophesied to happen. Revelation 15:1

3/ The dead know nothing until the Appointed time for the Great White Throne Judgement, when there will be new heavens and a new earth. Revelation 21:1-4

4/ Then, for those whose names are written in the Book of Life, the change will come; into immortality for Eternity. As described in 1 Corinthians 15:50-56.

Won't be just believers only, but all peoples still alive will be changed on that final day of this world. This Message in God's Word is only hinted at, not something that is easily understood, it is a mystery.

Here is where Apostle Paul was quoting from in 1 Corinthians 15 when he was speaking of that change, with death being swallowed up in victory. Many are not aware Paul was actually quoting from Isaiah 25 about that because they don't study all of God's Word. The Old Testament Books is all that was written in Paul's day, and he was a scholar of it, and quoted from it a lot in his Epistles that would makeup the majority of the New Testament Books:

Isa 25:5-9
5 Thou shalt bring down the noise of strangers, as the heat in a dry place; even the heat with the shadow of a cloud: the branch of the terrible ones shall be brought low.

That is hinting at the "day of the Lord" when God's consuming fire will burn man's works off this earth on the day of Christ's return.

6 And in this mountain shall the LORD of hosts make unto all people a feast of fat things, a feast of wines on the lees, of fat things full of marrow, of wines on the lees well refined.

7 And He will destroy in this mountain the face of the covering cast over all people, and the vail that is spread over all nations.
8 He will swallow up death in victory; and the Lord GOD will wipe away tears from off all faces; and the rebuke of His people shall He take away from off all the earth: for the LORD hath spoken it.

That "face of the covering cast over all people", and that "vail that is spread over all nations", is pointing to this present world with man in a flesh body. When Jesus returns, all alive will be 'changed' to the "spiritual body" type, which is the type body of the resurrection also. It is the body type for Christ's future "thousand years" reign and thereafter.

That is how death will literally be swallowed up in victory for those in Christ. But the unsaved will instead be in their own resurrection type, the "resurrection of damnation" Lord Jesus called it. It is a spiritual body type also, but their soul will still be in a liable to die mortal condition, subject to the "second death". The "second death" is the type of death that will literally destroy a spirit with soul. It is not about flesh death. After Christ's return on the "day of the Lord", there won't be any more in a flesh body like today.

9 And it shall be said in that day, "Lo, This is our God; we have waited for Him, and He will save us: This is the LORD; we have waited for Him, we will be glad and rejoice in His salvation."

Therefore we are always confident, although we know that while we are at home in the body, we are away from the Lord. 7For we walk by faith, not by sight. 8We are confident, then, and would prefer to be away from the body and at home with the Lord.…2 Corinthians 5:7

The rest of the dead did not come to life until the thousand years were ended. Revelation 20:5

That's assuming that people literally sleep in the ground, which is a pop notion from a Bible expression, but not the actual meaning in the Word of God.

Early on in Bible study, we were supposed to learn per Ecclesiastes 12:5-7 that at flesh death, our flesh goes back to the earth where it came from, but our spirit goes back to God Who gave it. That spirit part has our soul attached with it, as Jesus showed this in Matthew 10:28 that the soul continues if the flesh is killed. Apostle Paul in 2 Corinthians 5 also showed that we have another body, eternal in the heavens, if our flesh house were dissolved. So ain't no one literally sleeping in a casket out in the backyard. That is a primitive notion by those with carnal minds who do not understand idioms.

In Luke 16, Lord Jesus showed how it is, when Lazarus and the rich man having died, their bodies buried, and what was left was carried by the angels to Paradise either to the side Abraham was on, or the other side where the abode the wicked is called hell. Even upon the cross, Lord Jesus told the malefactor who believed on Him that he would be with Him that day in Paradise.

Thus the 'dead' of Rev.20 is about being 'spiritually' dead, not asleep in the ground.

What does it mean to be spiritually dead? It means being 'without' Christ Jesus, without His Salvation. It's simple. This is why Jesus also referred to living people on the earth as being 'dead' inside, because of not believing on Him as God's promised Savior. But those who are "born again" have His Salvation because of believing on Jesus Christ. Thus those 'born again' are not spiritually dead inside.

That is how to understand the state of the "dead" in Rev.20:5. It doesn't mean they are literally asleep in the grave. It means their soul is still 'dead' and liable to perish at the "second death", which is the casting into the "lake of fire" at the END of the "thousand years".

When Jesus returns, there will be many in the nations that will still be unsaved. They represent the spiritually dead that don't live again until the Great White Throne Judgment. How? Because when the books are opened after the thousand years, those are judged, to see if there's any of their names written in the book of life. There will be more in that time that will believe on Christ Jesus and be saved during that thousand years. This is why the books are checked one final time.

Why didn't you quote the 1st verse of that 2 Corinthians 5 chapter? Are you afraid of it or something?

2 Cor 5:1
5 For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.

The soul of unbeliers that die go to hell and their body to the grave and after the end of the 1000 years their dead bodies are raised and join their soul and spirit and are given final judgment and cast into the eternal lake of fire!

Nah... you're listening to preachers heeding a system of men's traditions, and not God's Word.

1 Cor 15:48-50
48 As is the earthy, such are they also that are earthy: and as is the heavenly, such are they also that are heavenly.
49 And as we have borne the image of the earthy, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly.
50 Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither doth corruption inherit incorruption.

KJV

For what you said to be true, then it would mean "corruption" (flesh) can inherit "incorruption". Apostle Paul shows there that is NOT possible.

Or maybe you believe our Heavenly Father is made up of material matter???

John 4:24
24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship Him must worship Him in spirit and in truth.

KJV
