His Humble Servant
I believe with all of my being that Jesus was speaking of the Ten Commandments. Those Commandments were written on stone, to show their permanence...and God wrote them Himself, with His Own finger. In other words, these Commandments do not come to us second-hand through the mouth of some inspired writer, but from the very Hand of God Himself. Those tablets of stone were placed within the Ark of the Covenant, along with other precious proofs that God led Israel.FHII said:Folks, I'm not looking to become a participant in this thread. I have my reasons. I'm just watching how it develops and turns out. I have one question which I'm asking for clarification. I'm certain if I went back through all six pages, I'd find it. Perhaps someone can save me the trouble.
My question is what exactly are the commandments we are supposed to keep that Jesus spoke of when he said, "if you love me, keep my comnandments".
Thanks
Now, this does not include the rest of the Mosaic law, which Moses wrote in a book, and which was not placed within the Ark, but only laid beside it.
Lots of people will tell you that this was the Old Covenant...and they'd be right, of course....except that God also said that He would include His law in the New Covenant....only this time He would not write it on tablets of stone, but within our very hearts. And He promised that in the New Covenant, He would forgive our sins, and remember them no more.
Also, Jesus re-capped those Commandments, expanding on them. Yes, even the fourth Commandment got His attention...He told us that the Sabbath was made for man...not man for the Sabbath, and He told us that it was lawful to do good on the Sabbath. And, most importantly, He called Himself the Lord of the Sabbath. Remember, though...this only includes the commandment AS GOD WROTE IT...it doesn't include all the rig-a-ma-role about not kindling fire, or stoning folks for gathering sticks, or any of that rot. It ONLY includes a blessed day of rest....the one requirement other than you rest on that day, would be that you allow the people around you to also rest.
As for the other nine Commandments...well, they sorta go without saying, don't they?
