Yes, we know who the Kenites are - the descendants of Moses' brother-in-law Hobab (Numbers 10:29-32; Judges 1:16). They travelled alongside the Israelites from Mount Sinai and settled in the Promised Land, but kept themselves separate and maintained their own distinct culture. And every so often, they pop up in the Biblical histories. Jael, the wife of Heber the Kenite, murdered the Canaanite general Sisera during the time of the judges (Judges 4:16-22). Jehonadab, the son of Rekab, helped Jehu to purge Israel of Baal worship during the time of the kings (II Kings 10:15-17). Jehonadab's descendants became known as “the Rekabites”, and were commended by God through the prophet Jeremiah (Jeremiah 35).
So the Kenites, on the whole, have an honourable history.
