I think a number of members of this forum are looking for the Latter Rain, an end-times outpouring of the Holy Spirit which will bring unity and sanctity to the church.

If this is your view, I have this question for you.

What will God provide then, that He is not providing now?

    Much love!

Ha!...another Pentecost?? To bolden current Christians who are "asleep in the light"?
A double portion of His Spirit?
    Good questions Marks.

Greetings, Marks, and glad to see you are back around and healthy.

The belief is not that it will bring about unity and sanctity (although these will come with it, and be beneficial side effects). The primary thing the outpouring will bring is supernatural power, just as it did on Pentecost, were they began manifesting supernatural gifts in earnest, eventually even healing heal the sick and raising the dead.

By and large we are not seeing much of these things now, at least not to the extent that they existed then, and the latter rain (no, I do not subscribe to all the doctrines of the movement that went by that name) is expected to be a far greater outpouring, or so modern prophecy has stated.

Why would you not want a return to supernatural manifestations of the power of God as in the early church? It is what produced the harvest then, and it is what will produce the harvest in the end-times.

God has poured out His Spirit many times over the centuries in the form of revivals. If you haven’t already, you can read about these powerful outpourings online.

Joel 2 speaks of the Acts 2 outpouring of the Holy Spirit, but I also believe that these verses speak of an End Times outpouring when our "sons and daughters will prophesy” and “ old men will dream dreams,” etc. This gives you old guys something to look forward to! :p

    Joel 2:28-32
“ It will come about after this
    That I will pour out My Spirit on all mankind;
And your sons and daughters will prophesy,
Your old men will dream dreams,
Your young men will see visions.
“Even on the male and female servants
I will pour out My Spirit in those days.

“I will display wonders in the sky and on the earth,
Blood, fire and columns of smoke.
“The sun will be turned into darkness
    And the moon into blood
Before the great and awesome day of the LORD comes.
“And it will come about that whoever calls on the name of the LORD
    Will be delivered;

It also says our young men will see visions. That's the part I'm placing my trust in.

Ok, maybe that's a little TOO young for me. How about this? Do I look defiant, and ready to unleash my fury on the enemy?

One of the things that makes me wonder about this teaching . . . why would God be waiting to work in my life until some future time?

God promises He is working in me continually. Surely He's not holding back, is He?

Are you thinking I don't want the Spirit to work in and through His people? I most certainly do!

    :)

As far as all the doctrines associated, yeah, there are lots of variations, I'm just thinking right now about a "second Pentecost" sort of idea, just looking at the outpouring.

I understand you to be saying that God will again perform mass miracles to attest to the unsaved, and they, seeing the power of God, will believe in Him. Do I understand correctly?

This is partly what I have in mind when I say to sanctify us. I think that the more we are sanctified in our living, the more the Spirit will perform His works in and through us, including all of the gifts.

But your thinking is more that there is a time coming that God has planned to do extraordinary things to draw people to Himself, things which He hasn't done for many centuries.

And those of us who are here at the time, we will have the blessing of participating in those miracles and works, and others will have the benefit of seeing God's power that they will believe.

    Like that?

    Much love!

I'm curious also where you see this harvest fitting into Biblical prophecy. Can you show me?

Is there something particular in Scripture which says to you that this is not only Pentecost, but to be fulfilled again in the end times?

Of course you do! We're past that stage, LoL.
    Perfectly.
Ah, cart before the horse. I had this discussion with Pearl yesterday. We cannot be sanctified (literally "made holy" in the Greek) apart from the Holy Spirit, so the outpouring has to come first.
Mmmm.. blessed will they be? Yes. "Happy"? I'd consider that loose translation. It will be a declaration of war on the kingdom of darkness, and there are casualties in war. But they will be worth it for all the victories that will be achieved and souls that will be won.
Largely silent, but not entirely. Scripture says clearly that the harvest is the end of the age, which means this is when the most souls will be won.

This question is where we got hung up last time, and I believe we came to a stalemate on a particular inquiry I was making of you. :)
Joel Chapter 2. Verses 28-31 in particular, but the whole Chapter actually applies.

I can tell this may be a long one, so I will take it at my leisure if that's ok.

Again, great to see you made it through Covid ok. I was praying for you. :)

I don't believe it's a matter of being fulfilled AGAIN. I believe that the Joel 2 prophecy was not FULLY fulfilled at Pentecost. For instance, I don't believe that the following verses were fulfilled that day. This seems to be an End Times prophecy.

“I will display wonders in the sky and on the earth,
Blood, fire and columns of smoke.
“The sun will be turned into darkness
    And the moon into blood
Before the great and awesome day of the LORD comes.
“And it will come about that whoever calls on the name of the LORD
    Will be delivered;

Also, I've read that various prophets for over 100 years have prophesied an End Times outpouring.

Ah, but do we ever see Him while He is doing His work, until it is just about there and, you look back and do a, head shake when the light bulb goes off? Lol. This has happened to me and I think, when this kind of thing does happen, that God gives us a good look at hindsight to help us to piece it together. Jmo my bro :D

My difficulty with this answer is that God has told us He has given us everything we need for life and Godliness, but if there is an extra gift of faith that will actually get us to where we need to be, and God is holding back on giving it, then wouldn't that mean He HASN'T given us all we need?

I would think that God wants me to believe His promises Now, and to live in them Now. Doesn't He?

That's been my experience too. And in fact, I have no issue with the idea of a "sudden outpour of the Spirit", if that is what's happened when God did miraculous works in me.

But that's how I see God's working in His children, each of us personally, individually, and that He gives each of us what we need as we need it, and in the way we need it.

The real issue with Latter Rain teaching I'm thinking about right now is that very impact of this teaching on our individual lives. It's like it says, sometime in the future, if you live long enough, you'll get the Latter Rain, and can really live the Christian life you dream of!

But I believe that life is there for each of us right now by believing that is so. Walking by faith now.

    Much love!

I see this prophecy as describing a time started that day, and ending with these signs, and the day of the LORD. So that it applies continuously, now.

I think sons and daughters do still prophesy, and that young men see visions, and old men dream dreams. So you can call me a dreamer!

As for the modern prophets, I'm always interested in exploring their prophecies, and in particular ones that have been fulfulled. I've been following the modern prophetic movement for several decades, but have yet to find reason to be overly confident in what they have for the most part said. I say this realizing there is much difference between many of the modern day prophets, so I don't mean to lump them all together.

    Much love!

This is what makes our relationship with Him personal and, He always has the best for us. And, neither do I have any issue at all with the "outpouring" of His Spirit, I welcome and pray for it.

"But I believe that life is there for each of us right now by believing that is so. Walking by faith now."

Agreed, how bad do we want it is the question :) Another thing I pray for, so as to be bolder and have The Spirit give me words when I am to speak. I have probably pushed more away then not over the years. I think that is because it was "flesh" speaking. I get so excited to let others know what He has done for me but, certainly not all will hear, and if The Holy Spirit did not lead me to speak about my faith, then it was flesh. Where I live there are MANY Catholics, especially in the parts I live in. And, most of those volunteering at The Genesis Center are not born again and have no idea even, that those were Jesus's words. They will get nasty if I ask them questions so, I back off and just live as a Christian should. They are prayed for every day.
    Anyhow, sorry off track.
I a glad you are fine and back here bro.
    His joy and blessings!

Didn't God sanctify us when we were reborn? Doesn't the Holy Spirit lead us to live that new sanctified life, as we renew our minds?

This is my exact difficulty with this teaching. That we are lacking what we need to live a holy life.

I find the horse to be our recreation, and the cart to be the renewing of the mind.

    Much love!
