@TLHKAJ not sure where you are getting that from regarding not eating meat. It doesn't seem to me to be relevant.

It was the increase of cortisol that got me (body thinking it is in an emergency situation). It wore down my endocrine system.

If it suits you that is fine. I know many do. Some find out quickly it is bad for them, some take more than a year. Trouble is once that happens it takes a long time to fix as the Low Toxin forum shows.

I am only sounding out cautions that you did not mention.

Sister, you may want to look into other root causes as to why your cortisol is up.

High animal fats heals cortisol (and other hormones).

Is ketosis bad for long term?

From what I'm finding there is some conjecture about this. Some are saying it is bad over long term while others are saying it's fine.

Is ketosis bad for short term?

The overall consensus is that it's not bad over a short term, especially if your goal is to loose weight. Maybe there are some that say its bad but I haven't come across any yet.

My cortisol is not due to low animal fats. As I said I eat them every meal as I keep carbs lowish.

You seem to be a bit touchy about this. I am not dissing your diet. If it works good for you.

The thing I do not agree with is pushing a diet without mentioning there are studies that show drawbacks for some.

Hi AOG

There have been plenty of studies to show that some people do badly as the video on my last post shows.

It all depends on the state of health when you begin and how sick you are. It seems the sicker the more chance of negative effects.

I'm not touchy at all. I see you being fearful and adamant here for some reason.

I'm just concerned that @Armour of God is being discouraged based on the experience of some rather than just allowing him to see all the info and choose to tey something that very likely will help him in his health journey.

We should share our experiences and encourage him to do what he feels is best. How will he know unless he gives it a good effort? Fear is not the answer.

I have learned to avoid those who aggressively push one diet as the answer to all thankyou.
To the contrary, many doctors have used keto and carnivore to help their patients heal health issues like heart and metabolic conditions like diabetes and dementia, etc. But many carnivores raise their children on a high animal protein/fat whole foods diet that includes organic fruits, veggies, etc ....because their body hasn't been broken by the introduction of seed oils, processed foods, high carbs, and sugar. Many do give their children only meat, but very many raise their children on organic whole foods.

Carnivore is for healing the body and many have to be on it long term and it works for them. Even whole people groups have lived mostly on meat and very high fat. Yet, you're pushing fear of meat.

I'd like to discontinue interactions with you and simply share with our brother and encourage him to do what he feels led to do.

I certainly agree with discontinuing interactions with you too. It will get nowhere when someone is obsessed with promulgating a subject.

Well we all know I hope what mistakes medics can make

I do hope our brother will do his own research instead of depending on someone elses experience. I only introduced a source for him which was not supplied by you so he could go ahead safely.

My husband is one such person. He comes from a family of 2 parents who have/had diabetes, and almost all of his 7 siblings deal with diabetes. My husband was told a couple years back that he needed to be on insulin. He told his doctor, "I'm not taking that. I'll talk to my wife first." So he asked me how to do keto/carnivore and I shared with him what he should do. He eats a heavy meat/high fat keto diet and reversed the diagnosis in short order ...as in a week or two. He is no longer diabetic. He eats some veggies and occasionally veers completely off keto (on holidays, birthdays, etc) for one meal. The one meal will spike his insulin a bit more than needed, though ...so he stays very much on his high protein/fat keto diet. And his insulin levels stay in normal range. His main issue is that he works a lot and is full time out of state ....so he eats a lot of convenience meats like sausages when his work hours are high. When he cooks a roast with some broccoli and cauliflower, bell peppers, onions, garlic, celery ...and he is consistent with unprocessed meats, he does a lot better energy-wise.

@Armour of God

Since your OP is about low carb, that is why I am sharing info related to this. And as keto and carnivore are where my experience is for the last 10 years, I feel I have a good bit of info on this. :)

Many thousands of people have lived on a ketogenic diet for decades with only optimal results. Study the Inuits and other tribes who have lived on eating seal meat and fat for thousands of years. (And I'll share other examples.)

But too, eating low carb and carnivore doesn't guarantee ketosis 24-7.

Babies who are breast fed are in ketosis. God knows it is needed for proper brain developed and function. The brain is fueled by cholesterol/fats, and runs best on ketones. (Studies bear this out.) That's why so many brain-related conditions go away when a person goes on a high fat ketogenic or carnivore diet.

If you fast, you are in ketosis and we know that the Bible speaks of your health springing forth speedily when you fast. But once you eat eggs or cheese ...drink milk (preferably raw), eat plain yogurt, drink plain kefir ...you get a carbs from an animal source.

I'd just like to encourage you to try it and see if it works for you.

IS BREAST MILK KETO?

As a functional Dietitian, I am not necessarily for or against the Keto diet. I recognize it is a highly effective treatment for certain conditions, while others should stay away from this diet as it poses significant risk to them. How effective (and safe!) it is really depends on your body's physiology and current metabolic state. Metabolic stress, for example, makes the keto diet a dangerous diet for some, while healthy adults may be able to live 'keto-adapted' for months or even years without problems. It may even help to prevent neurodegenerative disease.

However, as I've done some research in order to write my blog post "Is Keto Safe While Breastfeeding?", I came across the pro-keto argument often that claims "babies are in ketosis" because "breast milk is keto", and therefore, "keto must be the way we were all meant to eat". Naturally, I was intrigued by this and had to dig deeper: Are babies really in ketosis? Is breast milk really 'keto'? Are we all meant to be in ketosis, as the 'optimal' metabolic state?

Super interesting concept, so let's dig deeper!

Breast Milk is High Fat - but not Keto

If you've followed me for a while, you probably already know that breast milk is dynamic in its composition. Things like your diet, age, your weight, the stage of lactation you're in and even the time of day change your breast milk's exact composition. Heck, breast milk even changes during your baby's feeding as milk in your 'hind milk' is higher in fat and fat soluble vitamins compared to 'foremilk', at the beginning of a feeding.

However, there is a 'range' for the macronutrients in your breast milk. Your body will attempt to keep your milk's macronutrient content (the fats, protein and carbohydrates) within a certain range to make sure your baby is growing optimally and not missing out on any of those important nutrients.

Mature breast milk (the breast milk that is produced after the second week postpartum) contains roughly 650 to 700 calories per liter. It contains about 60 to 70 grams of carbs per liter, 35 to 40 grams of fat per liter and only about 8 to 10 grams of protein per liter. Converted into calories, the macro distribution of breast milk is roughly 50 to 53% fat, 38 to 40% carbs and 6 to 8% protein. Colostrum is a bit higher in carbs, higher in protein and lower in fat compared to mature breast milk (2).

Obviously, there is conflicting info out there from folks who are against the health benefits of eliminating sugar.and processed foods, and high carbs from the diet.

I have to run some errands ....one of my pullets has injured her leg and I need to get her to a vet.

So this guy says that keto is bad for gut health, gut microbiome. He talks about one study but doesn't say what it is so I can't confirm it.
He doesn't explain how or why so many people don't have a problem with keto.
Then he questions why does anyone want to do keto, why miss out on "fun foods". My answer is that I want to loose weight. And he says you can still loose weight by eating french fries, ice cream and pizza. Really.
Maybe he can at his age but I certainly can't loose weight eating that kind of stuff.
And then I've seen videos with doctors saying there are no studies showing any negative side effects from ketosis.
So, thanks for your concern but I'm trying keto for 3 months to see for myself
