So this guy says that keto is bad for gut health, gut microbiome. He talks about one study but doesn't say what it is so I can't confirm it.
He doesn't explain how or why so many people don't have a problem with keto.
Then he questions why does anyone want to do keto, why miss out on "fun foods". My answer is that I want to loose weight. And he says you can still loose weight by eating french fries, ice cream and pizza. Really.
Maybe he can at his age but I certainly can't loose weight eating that kind of stuff.
And then I've seen videos with doctors saying there are no studies showing any negative side effects from ketosis.
So, thanks for your concern but I'm trying keto for 3 months to see for myself
I wish you well.

Just a couple more.

"...“After an average of 11.8 years of follow-up – and after adjustment for other risk factors for heart disease, such as diabetes, high blood pressure, obesity and smoking – people on an LCHF diet had more than two-times higher risk of having several major cardiovascular events, such as blockages in the arteries that needed to be opened with stenting procedures, heart attack, stroke and peripheral arterial disease,” researchers found, according to the news release. The researchers said in the release that their study “can only show an association between the diet and an increased risk for major cardiac events, not a causal relationship,” because it was an observational study, but their findings are worth further study, “especially when approximately 1 in 5 Americans report being on a low-carb, keto-like or full keto diet.”"

For me, on keto for 6 years ....I did great, but because I focused highly on getting 2 HUGE salads a day, and thought I couldn't afford meat, so I had maybe 2 eggs a day and some cheese with loads of veggies. That is what set me up for gut issues. (High oxalates in the diet while way under eating animal fats and proteins.) I think you'll do great, as long as you don't do what I did (skimping proteins and fats). I'm excited for you!

What I did after my endo system ran into trouble on keto, was to cut out all grains (I was eating a small amount - GF ones like brown rice) to calm down autoimmunity - my antibodies reduced, and use certain fruit - lower carb, instead.

My weight has increased due to my thyroid problems but I am feeling better.

So high fat carnivore is what most people need, at least for a time, in order for the body to heal and restore.
This probably came across wrong. What I meant by "most people" is ... most people who are dealing with chronic health conditions.

At the same time, people who have eaten tons and tons of fruits, veggies, grains, and nuts are so overloaded with oxalates that going carnivore "cold turkey" will likely result in an oxalate dump. The body will start releasing oxalates and then you may start feeling worse for a time. Some people power through it, but the advice from several doctors is to ease into carnivore so the body releases oxalates at a slower pace.

Another option is that if you've gone carnivore and experience oxalate dumping (there are videos on the signs of this) ...drink a couple cups of herbal tea a day. That will give you a small amount of oxalates and slow down the body's release of stores oxalates.

@TLHKAJ

I started eating low carb meals on Sunday but I still have high carb stuff in my fridge that I'd rather consume than throw away. By the time that's all consumed it will be Thursday when I fully start the diet.

I'm 93kg now. I'd love to get to 80kg.
But for me it's more about that fat around my guts than the kgs. Also the fat around my face and double chin.

This is how I'm starting.

For work lunch I've replaced bread with low carb pita bread wraps, 9g of carbs. I use the same fillings as before, cheese, ham, tomato, egg, sometimes olives or cucumber or pickles or salami instead of ham. Any combination of those fillings depending on what i have and how i feel. Sometimes it might just be as simple as cheese and salami
It's nice. The fact that there is less bread means I can taste the fillings more. I like it

For dinner I'm rotating proteins daily.
Beef, lamb, pork, chicken, fish/seafood.
Thats the 5 main proteins i eat.
Every now and then I might get something different like kangaroo, duck, turkey or something else. So far I've been accompanying that with broccoli and cauliflower. Don't really like salads or other green veggies so I'm a bit limited there. I'll try zucchini and brussel sprouts next time I do my groceries.

For breakfast I never eat. I just have a coffee when I get to work, with a dash of milk. Not sure if i should be having full cream or light milk, haven't looked into that yet.
I've replaced sugar with a product that is stevia with erythritol. Both are keto friendly sweeteners.

I just eat twice a day, lunch and dinner. With an 18 hour or so fast between dinner and lunch next day.
For nibbles I've got myself strawberries, salted peanuts and salted cashews. But I'm learning that it's better not to have any snacks during that long 18 hour fasting period, so I'm aiming to eventually not have any snacks during then.

Regarding exercise, I'm a metal worker/welder. I'm on my feet all day, moving around, bending down, using various tools, lifting things. It takes a lot of energy to do and I think it's sufficient exercise.

Im also keen to speak to my physician about this in the next week or so to see what he says, as I take medication for hypertension, high cholesterol and acid reflux

So thats what ive started with. I'm still watching a lot of YT videos and learning more about the keto diet. Hopefully I'll be able to learn about different things I can eat for lunch and sides for dinner with out it having too much preparation.
I'm giving this a try for 3 months.
I hope it works.
