Being in the "present" with Jesus, is indeed a great place to be. But it's only a stepping stone on the path. We are not to take up residence along the path of coming fully into God.
The ideas and the thoughts that lead us to perhaps think that "now" or being in the "present", may be well intended, but are a trap. That is just one way that Satan says, "stay awhile...make yourself comfortable."
Ultimately, there is no comfortable kumbaya "now." That is just ungodly utopian nonsense.
But the real issue, is that perspective is wrong. The "present" "now" perspective is a worldly perspective. To the contrary, our best position and perspective is as "aliens" not satisfied with the here and now, always having the urge in our soul to pick up and go home--our actual and rightful home, with God.
Alternatively...the better word or term for living in the present (being alive in the Spirit, but remaining in the world) serving "according to His purpose"...is "meanwhile." Meanwhile, we are here; meanwhile, we can be in accord and walking in the spirit with God; meanwhile, we can forever, beginning now, assume that greater, heavenly and Godly perspective.
