There have been over 50 earthquakes off the coast of Oregon, and they could be a prequel of a large quake to come? Just a heads up if you live out there especially on the coast, if there are Tsunami's associated with this.

Although this fault is not known for mega thrust Earthquakes, this swarm is odd. Could be something, could be nothing? The way "scientists" have been wrong so many times this past year and half, makes me just want you all aware of this.

More than 50 earthquakes hit off the coast of Oregon this week. Scientists say they pose little threat. (msn.com)

Actually, the number is 54 quakes in the last 24 Hours as I am writing this.
Yeah, but scientists say they pose little threat.

"Nothing to see here! Return to your regularly scheduled program(ming)!"

'Cause, you know, ... 54 'quakes in the same vicinity in 24 hours?

No big deal.

Is Oregon apart of the Ring of Fire?
Oregon lies on the northeast edge of the ring where the Juan de Fuca plate is slipping beneath the North American plate. This area is known as the Cascadia Subduction Zone (CSZ) and it has the potential for producing exceptionally strong earthquakes.

That happens a lot on the west coast. I see this up and down California, where I live, but all the way up the coast to Alaska.

At least 3 or 4 times a year I'll read about earthquake swarms. I was just looking on the USGS website, they show over 2000 earthquakes 2.5+ on the west coast in the past year. That's over 160 per month.

Having lived in California most my life, yes, these swarms of earthquakes don't seem to signify something bigger coming. The larger quakes we've had weren't always preceded by smaller ones. It's theorized that several smaller quakes may actually relieve pressure on the fault without a massive shaking.

Much love!

True, but sometimes relieving pressure on one fault places more pressure on another more dangerous one. Again this could be nothing or lead to something???

r. That's over 160 per month.

160 per month averages to 5 per day assuming 30 day month. compare and contrast to 54 in one day makes this "odd".

Again this could be nothing or could be something?

This happens routinely. This or that fault will have 30, 50, 100+ within a 1-3 day period. Other days will be little to no activity. But again, I've seen myself at least 3-4 times a year when this comes up in the news, and that's not counting what I miss.

So far no one has been able to figure out how to know when the Big One is coming.

Much love!

I am thinking of the EQ a couple of years ago east of LA on an inactive fault like the above, that was preceded by a swarm and then popped at a 7.0-7.1 EQ. I believe it was the Ridgecrest earthquake.

That's the kind of thing that keeps this in the news. But most swarms don't have larger earthquakes with them. And for some, the swarms come after the quake (not including the aftershocks).

Geologists would love to find some way to predict large earthquakes, but so far it seems the best they can do is try to get the alerts out as soon as anything big registers, knowing cell signals travel faster than seismic waves.

Much love!

I've been watching and a little concerned as I live in Washington state.

I am waiting for Mt Bachelor to blow up. When I used to snowboard up there, there were hot spots that were marked so you didn’t ski into them. Big holes with steam coming out. This may be a prelude to that.

We live away from geological fracture lines; but years ago I did live in an earthquake-prone area.

I've lived with earthquakes all my life. I'd rather be here than tornado alley!

Much love!
