Do you think a guy's ear piercing can be a good conversation-starting bondservant comparison?

You refuse to answer why people should appear to be a thug, drug dealer, pirate?

I've seen "60days in" show where immediately after the prayer meeting they would plan a beat down on another inmate who owed money for drugs they were sold and hadn't paid for.

Why on earth someone would want to emulate that sort of Christian is beyond my understanding...

And you keep refusing to answer any questions.

@Ziggy FYI....did you see/vote in the above poll?
That's a tough one. Almost like circumcission.
I see a man wearing an earing and I already think hmmmm...
Not that I have a problem with people doing what they do with their own flesh.
But it places an already preconcieved idea in my head.
The fault is entirely my own and my preconceived ideas.

But you ask would it open up a conversation about Bondservice.
Like drilling an awl in ones ear to show your owned by someone.
Your a piece of property.
But in this case it would be an outward conversation of one's bondservice to God.

I get it. I understand it.
But I don't think I would start a conversation with a guy as to why he got his ear pierced.
But now that you brought it to my attention...
maybe the next time I see a guy wearing an earring ...
probably not.
I'm just not that curious.

And maybe this was a real good topic to bring up because now it may make me reflect on those
preconcieved ideas I have.
So thank you for that.

Alriiiight...
I chose not sure. Because I think the world has a lot of preconcieved ideas.
And not too many people are non-judgemental.
I don't say No, because somebody somewhere may be saved because of it.
I don't say Yes, because I don't know.

Quite apart from the symbolism - and, let's face it, it's often done with no symbolism in mind at all - it does seem to me that from a practical point of view it's hard these days for moms, if they themselves, with daughters, already have double ear piercings (as so many do..) to deny a son even one ear stud in one ear.

This would seem obvious, wouldn't it?

In fact, often it's moms who take the initiative to arrange for their sons' - as well as daughters' - earrings being put in for the first time.

Yup, nope.
So this is my answer.
If my 18 year old grandson called me on the phone and said. "grammy, I'm getting my ear pierced" .
I'd say, "That's nice dear",
Are you still having classes online? or Did you get a job yet?
Now if he wants to tell me WHY he wants to get his ear pierced I'm listening.
Ah.. ok...
But I'm not going to push the subject.
I would never tell my grandson to get his ear pierced so he can be as umm fashionable as his sisters though.
That choice would have to be his and his alone.

@Ziggy You know, reading what you say, it makes a lot of sense.... :)

Do it/ don't do it; it really ought to be up to him...

But if he wants to do it, if he thinks it would be nice, just go for it, right?

(I think these days, a young man having ear piercings should be no more problematic than young women deciding to get a tattoo.)

Yeah well, depends on how young too.
I think I was around 14 when my mom let me get my ears pierced.
Always had problems with them though. Didn't matter what kind or size.
My ear lobes would weep and then get crusty and then bleed.
And they weren't so pretty anymore.
So I stopped wearing them.
I don't wear any jewelry, rings and necklaces make my skin rash.
I don't wear makeup or use perfume.

I guess working around machinery and wearing jeans and t-shirts most my life,
didn't really leave me with much of a "feminine" appearance.
Jewelry would/could get caught up, and make up just get messy from sweating.
Perfume I never put it on but I like the way some smell on other people.
Sometimes NOT.
I guess you could call me a tomboy.
Although I still like sparkly things.
I love walking through a jewelry store and seeing all that glitters.
Same way I like all the lights at Christmas time, but I don't have those either.
Nope, just a plain Jane.
Living the simple life.
And I never been happier :)

@Ziggy So many ppl get ear piercings and tattoos now that one day the really radical thing may be to have none of either... :)

But, yes, around 14 for either gender, for ear piercings, sounds about right, if indeed they want it, don't you think?

And they - and older ppl - can learn about the bondservant symbolism in the Bible, whether or not they actually do it.

To be honest,
what I see going on today with the youth...
I never seen blue hair until I was in my 30's.
Lip and tongue peircings make me wonder what for?
But I won't ask. Because frankly I don't care.
I know this tabernacle is temporary.
And as long as what you do to yourself don't hurt anyone else.
And your mature enough to realize that actions have consequences.
And you've taken those consequences and weighed them in the balance.
Pros and cons, yeas and nays..
Then whatever you decide, is what it is.

@Ziggy

Compared to those other piercings, those that are put in for earrings are really rather 'tame', aren't they? for either gender.

The fact that ear piercing is in the Bible - for both genders, at different times and in different circumstances sometimes - should count, also.

I would have thought at any rate that it can work out to be a perfectly wholesome experience these days for either gender if it's what young ppl these are considering.

(IMHO...)

The bible talks about the slave owner boring the ear with an aul.
And that's after he done his time, had a family, and chose to stay instead of leave.
It's a permanent sign that someone else couldn't buy you. You chose to stay with the original owner.

So the outward boring of the ear, is the inward sealing of the Holy Spirit.
Only God can seal you. Just like only the owner could bore a hole in your ear.

I don't think doing it to oneself counts, in this context.

I can't seal myself with the holy spirit. and the slave couldnt set himself free.

I still stand by the judge not, lest ye be judged rule.
But if your going to get biblical...
Then it's apples and oranges.
IMO.

@Ziggy Perhaps indeed it's apples and oranges...

I would think anyway that if the 18 year old grandson were indeed known to be thinking about it already, then for grammy to buy him earrings for Christmas would be a perfectly good idea, wouldn't you think?

(In addition to a good study Bible... :) )

@Ziggy It used to be that girls would wear sparkly ear studs. Although now a lot of young men seem to like them, too, don't they?
