God began on the first and finished and made the seventh day the Sabbath...
So if your working week starts on a Wednesday then your sabbath would be Tuesday. Mine used to be a Thursday. One day in seven. One year in seven = sabbatical

So like I said, it depends on which day of the week you begin your working week.

This, as well as other subjects, must be viewed in their proper, relative, context. While Jesus was alive, so was the old covenant active, not the new, which became dominant upon the Lord's death. So it's important to keep things in their respective focus and corresponding pertainence as relates to dispensations.

So He no longer lives, have to rethink that...

Not only did Jesus create the Sabbath but He makes clear it was the seventh day and Holy...

Where did Jesus teach in the gospels that His followers are required to meet on Saturdays???

Hebrews 7:12
For the priesthood being changed, there is made of necessity a change also of the law.

In the New Testament... there is a new priesthood where Jesus is our High Priest instead of Moses and as such we are no longer under the law of Moses, but now we are under the Law of Christ.

If one observes ALL days as being holy unto the Lord and does not just observe Saturday only as being holy unto the Lord... is Jesus going to send these people to hell?

The Apostles were led by the Holy Spirit of Jesus Christ and they were meeting on Sunday... does this mean the Apostles were not accepted by Jesus and were sent to hell too?

Sundays - Why we Observe

Jesus arose upon the first day of the week.
Mark 16:2, Luke 24:1, John 20:1

Pentecost by Divine design always came on Sunday. (Lev. 23:15-16)
Acts 2

The church was established repentance and remission of sins first preached this Sunday in Acts 2 and they were added to the saved. Acts 2

The early church met on the first day of the week for communion (or to have a meal together and fellowship while hearing Paul teach). Acts 20:7

Early church offerings were directed to be done upon the first day of the week.
1 Corinthians 16:2

Colossians 2:16,17
Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days:
Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ.

Christ nor the Apostles say nothing about a change because of the day of resurrection, nor was there anything in their action after it of any change..

The Sabbath is Saturday.

March 7, 321 AD, Emperor Constantine changed that day to Sunday, sun day, so pagan citizens of the empire could better accept the Christian faith.

Did you see this scripture reference???

Hebrews 7:12
For the priesthood being changed, there is made of necessity a change also of the law.

This means we have a new high priest (Jesus) that we live under, and we have a new law (Law of Christ) that we live under.

Saturday sabbath is no longer in force because as Hebrews 7:12 clearly states the priesthood has changed, therefor the law has changed as well.

These 2 scriptures show the Apostles having meetings on Sunday, and they were being led by the Holy Spirit of Jesus tpo meet on Sunday... not Saturday

The early church met on the first day of the week for communion - Acts 20:7

Early church offerings were directed to be done upon the first day of the week - 1 Corinthians 16:2

This scripture indicates we are not judged by the sabbath days that we observe as being holy since the judaizers claim we cannot be saved if we don't have church on Saturday and those not having church on Saturday are doomed to hell

Colossians 2:16,17
Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days: Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ.

Saturday sabbath was one of the requirements of the law of Moses... and sadly those that try to be justified according to the OT law have fallen from grace and are no longer saved just like the Galatians!

Galatians 5:4
Christ is become of no effect unto you, whosoever of you are justified by the law; ye are fallen from grace.

Of course you are free to have church on Saturday, but claiming others have to do the same or they are not saved is false doctrine.

At the Council of Jerusalem chapter 15 of the Book of Acts, they had opportunity to address aspects of the OT law that the judaizers were falsely claiming New Covenant believers were required to observe such as circumcision... and they did not conclude Christians were required to keep Satuday sabbath under the leading of the Holy Spirit.

The council did, however, retain the prohibitions on eating blood, meat containing blood, and meat of animals that were strangled, and on fornication and idolatry, sometimes referred to as the Apostolic Decree

Since the Apostles were being led by the Holy Spirit... there is no biblical evidence that New Covenant believers were required to observe Saturday Sabbath.

This is also evident because Jesus never instructed His followers to observe Saturday sabbath nor did the Lord's teaching thru His Apostles require observing Saturday sabbath.

Considering all this, the modern day judaizers and the seventh day adventists are clearly wrong on this issue in trying to convince Christians that it's a sin to not observe Saturday sabbath

We cannot trust the traditions of men on the Sabbath vs. Sunday issue, for this is not safe, nor in just mere human opinions. Instead we need to know what scripture actually says, and above all, what Jesus Christ Himself taught, so we accept His teaching as our final authority.

Jesus Christ is “Lord even of the Sabbath day” as the Creator. Jesus said, “For the Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath day.” Matthew 12:8. By identifying Himself as “Lord even of the Sabbath day,” Jesus of was showing that He is the Creator, who from the beginning created Earth in six days, and rested on the seventh day. And the New Testament makes clear that Jesus is the Creator...

John 1:3
All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.

Ephesians 3:9
And to make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the world hath been hid in God, who created all things by Jesus Christ:
And of Jesus..
John 1:10
He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not.

Colossians 1:16
For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:

So scripture makes clear Jesus Christ is our Creator and also gave us the Sabbath for man not just the Jews.

Mark 2:27
And he said unto them, The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath:

Not only did Jesus create the Sabbath but He makes clear it was the seventh day and Holy...
Exodus 20:11
For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the Lord blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.

Even before the tablets of stone at Mt Sinai....
Exodus 16:23
And he said unto them, This is that which the Lord hath said, To morrow is the rest of the holy sabbath unto the Lord: bake that which ye will bake to day, and seethe that ye will seethe; and that which remaineth over lay up for you to be kept until the morning.

Now you can check the scriptures and it will make clear the Sabbath is on Saturday, the "seventh day of the week", while Sunday is "the first day of the week". Jesus Christ regularly kept the Sabbath, taught much about the Sabbath, and clearly stated that He is Lord even of the "Sabbath day"...
Matthew 12:8
For the Son of man is Lord even of the sabbath day.

Jesus Christ never mentioned "the first day of the week" nor taught nothing about it. The Sabbath continued long after the cross and was kept in the book of Acts by both Jews and Gentiles, as it clearly show. There is no biblical authorization for the change of the Bible Sabbath from Saturday to Sunday. God made the Sabbath at the beginning of the world before any Jews existed, to be a blessing to all mankind. And even more importantly, it is a special sign that Jesus Christ is the true Creator of heaven and earth and Lord of the Sabbath.

When the Son of God came, He kept the seventh day all His life. Luke 4:16 "And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up: and, as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and stood up for to read.¨

The Ten Commandments were not part of Moses’ ceremonial law as scripture clearly shows and there was a clear distinction made between the Commandments and that of Moses’ book of the law. The understanding of the Law was given to man way before Moses as scripture makes clear...
Genesis 26:5
Because that Abraham obeyed my voice, and kept my charge, my commandments, my statutes, and my laws.

Instead of abolishing the Sabbath, Jesus carefully taught how it should be observed.
Matthew 12:1-13
1 At that time Jesus went on the sabbath day through the corn; and his disciples were an hungred, and began to pluck the ears of corn and to eat.
2 But when the Pharisees saw it, they said unto him, Behold, thy disciples do that which is not lawful to do upon the sabbath day.
3 But he said unto them, Have ye not read what David did, when he was an hungred, and they that were with him;
4 How he entered into the house of God, and did eat the shewbread, which was not lawful for him to eat, neither for them which were with him, but only for the priests?
5 Or have ye not read in the law, how that on the sabbath days the priests in the temple profane the sabbath, and are blameless?
6 But I say unto you, That in this place is one greater than the temple.
7 But if ye had known what this meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice, ye would not have condemned the guiltless.
8 For the Son of man is Lord even of the sabbath day.
9 And when he was departed thence, he went into their synagogue:
10 And, behold, there was a man which had his hand withered. And they asked him, saying, Is it lawful to heal on the sabbath days? that they might accuse him.
11 And he said unto them, What man shall there be among you, that shall have one sheep, and if it fall into a pit on the sabbath day, will he not lay hold on it, and lift it out?
12 How much then is a man better than a sheep? Wherefore it is lawful to do well on the sabbath days.
13 Then saith he to the man, Stretch forth thine hand. And he stretched it forth; and it was restored whole, like as the other.

The New Testament alone mentions the Sabbath day no less than 84 times and never once is there a change of the Sabbath day to any other, nor was it abolished.

Jesus Christ said to keep the commandments:
"And, behold, one came and said unto him, Good Master, what good thing shall I do that I may have eternal life? And he said unto him, if thou wilt enter into life, keep
The Sabbath is a special day to focus on Jesus Christ our Maker: Jesus is “the Lord” who made the world in six
Nice angle and shift towards your view but context is important. He is the Creator and He did make the point to the Pharisees that He was greater then the Temple, so that was part and partial to His point, to make a statement of His deity and authority, to put the Pharisees off, denouncing their legalistic SABBATH LAW, giving examples that the prophets priests and they themselves would ignor.
He was telling them that the Law was made for man, not man for the Law. The disciples did "work", picking grains to eat on the Sabbath. SO WHAT, Jesus implied and gave examples.

>> Jesus purposely creates division between Him and the Pharisees, puts on a clinic, defying their legalist and heartless mindset. He healed on the Sabbath (more work) AND forgave sins.

>> They were livid. Is it easier to say your sins are forgiven or to heal a crippled man? They obviously thought it is easier to make a claim than to actually heal someone. Jesus forgave the man and healed him. He put them in their place and shut them up.
But of course, all this was just part of the plan, not only to establish a NEW Covenant that replaces the OLD, but to provoke the Pharisees and set them off on their path towards His crucifixion. They were jealous and envious towards Jesus and began to plot against Him.

Part of Jesus' mission was to fulfill the Law and many of the prophecies ( 300+). Being still under the Law, it was righteous that He would keep the Law. But gathering grain to eat or healing (acts of work), were more important. Mercy was more important than sacrifice - on any day if the week. He not only put the Pharisees in their place but also the Sabbath in its place.

Jesus is our Sabbath, symbolically our rest. We are perminently released from the LAW, mercifully relieved of its burdens and slavery _ as we enter into His Grace, Peace and Rest.

People seem to defend their personal doctrine regarding the Sabbath. That doesn't mean Christ agrees.

Mark 2 does not tell us Immanuel-Jesus abolished the Sabbath. The Sabbath isn't exclusively for Jews, either. It's for humanity, still.

Mark 2:27-28
A number of important aspects are of note here. The first is that the Sabbath was not made for its own sake, as with the other days of the week, but with the specific purpose of being a service to mankind. An alternate translation is that it was made "on account of man."

The Sabbath, then, is a specific, thoughtful gift of the Creator to serve His creation. If it were to be used by mankind merely for physical rest, any one of the seven days of the week would be acceptable. Yet, God set apart the seventh day specifically and linked it to creation (Genesis 2:1-3). Therefore, God's purpose in establishing the Sabbath is primarily to support man's part in God's spiritual creation. Such use goes far beyond mere bodily rest.

A second item is that God made the Sabbath for humanity, not just for the Jews. As God created it, its intention is universal. He made it to ensure mankind's physical and spiritual well-being.

A third point is that Jesus claims the authority as its Lord to teach us how to keep it, not whether to keep it. Both the immediate context and the gospels as a whole show that Jesus expected it to be kept and offered no alternatives.

Nations routinely honor citizens they believe have made significant contributions to the well-being of their people, and they often do this by setting apart a day as a memorial to them so that others will remember their contributions. For example, in this nation George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, and Martin Luther King have been so honored. God says in Exodus 31:13: "Surely My Sabbaths you shall keep, for it is a sign between Me and you throughout your generations that you may know that I am the LORD who sanctifies you."

By God's own words, He is memorialized and therefore honored by our observance of the Sabbath (the day we call Saturday). Compared to any man, God's contributions to the well-being of every living thing are beyond counting, but one stands out as witness to all: He is Creator. What an awesome statement to consider. Everything in and on this fantastic, floating greenhouse we call Earth is a tribute to and witnesses of His genius, power, and loving providence.

Mankind, on the other hand, has yet to create its first flea! Yet, if a man did create one, how much publicity would he want? What honors might he demand?

Hebrews 7:12

This is proof from scripture that we now have a new High Priest (used to be Moses... now it's Jesus Christ) and that the law has been changed (no longer under law of Moses, but we're under the law of Christ now).

The FACT of the matter is... Jesus never instructed anybody to observe Saturday sabbath and as already mentioned, the Holy Spirit under the direction of Jesus led the Apostles to have the Council of Jerusalem chapter 15 of the Book of Acts, they had opportunity to address aspects of the OT law that the judaizers were falsely claiming New Covenant believers were required to observe such as circumcision... and they did not conclude Christians were required to keep Satuday sabbath under the leading of the Holy Spirit.

So, Saturday sabbath is not in effect anymore... under the law of Christ we should all be observing everyday as being a holy day that belongs unto the Lord.

Those that keep Saturday sabbath are wasting their time as the Lord is not blessing just a one day a week observance... no, now He's leading us to count ALL seven days a week as belonging unto Him as we abide IN Him 24 hours per day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year for the rest of our lives.

He is memorialized and therefore honored by our observance of the Sabbath (the day we call Saturday).

And those that observe all seven days as being holy unto the Lord... are going above and beyond what the Saturday sabbath keepers are doing.

The Saturday sabbath keepers need to up their game and start living under the Law of Christ and let the law of Moses go as it's been done away with... One Who is greater than Moses is here now.. Jesus Christ!

Apostle Paul understood this he knew and kept Gods law including the seventh day sabbath.

Now lets take a look at; (Acts 13:13-15, 42, 44) (v.13) Now when Paul and his company loosed from Pa’-phus, they came to Per’-ga in Pam-phyl’-I-a: and John departing from them returned to Jerusalem. (v.14) But when they departed from Per’-ga, they came to An’-ti-och in Pi-sid’-I-a, and went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and sat down. Paul went into the church (synagogue) on the sabbath day the seventh day not the first day (Sunday). (v.15) And after the reading of the law and the prophets the rulers of the synagogue sent unto them, saying, Ye men and brethren, if ye have any word of exhortation for the people, say on. (v.42) And when the Jews were gone out of the synagogue, the Gentiles besought that these words might be preached to them the next sabbath.

The Gentiles didn’t asked Paul to come preach us something different next Sunday. They wanted Paul to preach to them the same thing that he taught the Jews, the next sabbath. Even the Gentiles knew that if they were going to serve the same God that Paul and the Jews (Israelites) served that they would have to serve him on the day that God had set up. (v.42) And the next sabbath day came almost the whole city together to hear the word of God. Not the next Sunday but the next sabbath.

Funny how NONE of his writings tell Christians to observe Saturday sabbath! clueless-scratching.gif

That's what is so funny about these claims that Christians must keep the law, or in this case a select part of the law of Moses.

So WHY do you think the Lord never gave Christians the commandment to keep Saturday sabbath?

Think He was getting forgetful in His old age and just forgot? Did the Lord instruct New Testament writers to put the command in their writings and they refused to do so?

And if you support keeping this point of the law of Moses, why is it you don't support keeping all the law of Moses and be like the Galatians who fell from grace because they quit following Jesus so they could go back to the law of Moses and work for their salvation?

Also, in your view... Christians who don't keep Saturday sabbath lose their salvation right?
They gonna burn in hell for not observing Saturday sabbath???

Anything Jesus said while he was alive was consistent with the OT laws

So all of His teachings are old covenant stuff? Like the stricter sense of murder and adultery, etc.?

not the NT which started at his death;

I thought it started with Matthew, ch. 1. You mean the Gospels up until the crucifixion should be part of the Old Testament?

the NT which started at his death

New Testament teachings (Gospel of the Kingdom) started with John the Baptist

Luke 16:16
The law and the prophets were until John: since that time the kingdom of God is preached, and every man presseth into it.

Read Hebrews 9:15-17

15And for this cause he is the mediator of the new testament, that by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first testament, they which are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance. 16For where a testament is, there must also of necessity be the death of the testator. 17For a testament is of force after men are dead: otherwise it is of no strength at all while the testator liveth.

In your own words, what is being said there that would be relevant to Barneys observations that you quoted?
