Let’s take a look at God’s Sabbaths. After all, He IS the only one that can declare a day holy or not! And He is the only one that can change it!
Gen.2
[2] And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made.
[3] And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.
Lev.23
[3] Six days shall work be done: but the seventh day is the sabbath of rest, an holy convocation; ye shall do no work therein: it is the sabbath of the LORD in all your dwellings.
So we know for a fact the day God set aside as the Sabbath is the 7th day. Let's find if there are any other days God said is a Sabbath;
[5] In the fourteenth day of the first month at even is the LORD's passover.
So the 14th day of the first month, according to God's calendar is God's Passover feast. But what about the next day? Let's read;
[6] And on the fifteenth day of the same month is the feast of unleavened bread unto the LORD: seven days ye must eat unleavened bread.
[7] In the first day ye shall have an holy convocation: ye shall do no servile work therein.
So the day AFTER the Passover is ALWAYS a Sabbath. It does not matter what day it falls on. Let's read more;
[8] But ye shall offer an offering made by fire unto the LORD seven days: in the seventh day is an holy convocation: ye shall do no servile work therein.
So the last DAY, of the 7 day feast, is also a Sabbath. Let's continue;
[16] Even unto the morrow after the seventh sabbath shall ye number fifty days; and ye shall offer a new meat offering unto the LORD.
So the next day after seven Sabbaths, or the 50[sup]th[/sup] day, or the Day of Pentecost shall be a Sabbath, let's confirm;
[21] And ye shall proclaim on the selfsame day, that it may be an holy convocation unto you: ye shall do no servile work therein: it shall be a statute for ever in all your dwellings throughout your generations.
Notice any day we are not to do work is a Sabbath, according to the creator of the Sabbath. Let's continue;
[24] Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, In the seventh month, in the first day of the month, shall ye have a sabbath, a memorial of blowing of trumpets, an holy convocation.
[25] Ye shall do no servile work therein: but ye shall offer an offering made by fire unto the LORD.
In the 7th month, on the 1st day of the month, is a Sabbath. The Blowing of the Trumpets.
[27] Also on the tenth day of this seventh month there shall be a day of atonement: it shall be an holy convocation unto you; and ye shall afflict your souls, and offer an offering made by fire unto the LORD.
[28] And ye shall do no work in that same day: for it is a day of atonement, to make an atonement for you before the LORD your God.
And we have another Sabbath on the 10th day of the 7th month.
[34] Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, The fifteenth day of this seventh month shall be the feast of tabernacles for seven days unto the LORD.
[35] On the first day shall be an holy convocation: ye shall do no servile work therein.
[36] Seven days ye shall offer an offering made by fire unto the LORD: on the eighth day shall be an holy convocation unto you; and ye shall offer an offering made by fire unto the LORD: it is a solemn assembly; and ye shall do no servile work therein.
And here we have 2 more Sabbaths; one on the 15th day of the 7th month. The first day of the Feast of Tabernacles. And one on last day of the Feast of Tabernacles, the 8th day.
Remember the one above…we’ll look at it again at the end of this lesson.
So along with God's 7th day Sabbath He also gives us 7 additional Sabbaths to be observed throughout the year. God sure does want us to remember something.
Now these are the ONLY Sabbaths given to us by God. So if anyone speaks of a Sabbath, in the bible it can ONLY be THESE!
Now let's read some more of what God's word says about HIS HOLY DAY;
Isa.56
[2] Blessed is the man that doeth this, and the son of man that layeth hold on it; that keepeth the sabbath from polluting it, and keepeth his hand from doing any evil.
[6] Also the sons of the stranger, that join themselves to the LORD, to serve him, and to love the name of the LORD, to be his servants, every one that keepeth the sabbath from polluting it, and taketh hold of my covenant;
[7] Even them will I bring to my holy mountain, and make them joyful in my house of prayer: their burnt offerings and their sacrifices shall be accepted upon mine altar; for mine house shall be called an house of prayer for all people.
Mark 2
[27] And he said unto them, The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath:
So God's Sabbath is for ALL men.
Now let's read a scripture that many use to say ANY day can now be considered a Sabbath. But let's not forget, the ONLY Sabbaths given to us by the creator of the Sabbath are the weekly 7th day Sabbaths and the 7 yearly Sabbaths. NO OTHERS WERE GIVEN BY GOD AS SABBATHS!
Col.2
[16] Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days:
Now what Sabbath could Paul be speaking of? Only the ones given to him by God…those are the ONLY Sabbaths he knows! Now let's read if Paul said at ANYTIME God's sabbath was or could be changed.
Must we break down the verse to get an understanding? Let's do it;
(Let no man therefore judge you) So we are not to let what other say bother us or deter us, because we can't stop someone from judging us.
(In meat, or in drink) Don't let what others say about what we eat or drink bother us. But what did God say was ok to eat and drink? The foods He said were NOT an abomination and for the Levites, no strong drink.
(Or in respect of an holyday) Do not let what men say about the holyday you serve God on bother you. And what are the holy days God gave us? His feast days.
(Or of the new moon) Don't let what people say about you observing the new moon bother you. And what does the new moon have to do with serving God? It is how we are to determine when the month starts to observe God's feasts and holy days.
(Or of Sabbath days.) Do not let what people say about you observing God's Sabbath days bother you. And what are God's Sabbath days? He already gave them to us in Lev. The weekly Sabbath, observed on the 7th day and the 7 yearly Sabbaths. These are the ONLY Sabbaths God gave us, and we are not to let what anybody says deter us or upset us or bother us from doing what thus said the Lord.
Now what Sabbath days are we not to let men judge us by? THE ONLY ONES GIVEN TO US BY GOD!
And when did Paul say God changed His sabbath? Not once!
God NEVER said WE could choose the day to serve Him. He has already done that for us. This verse is NOT saying we can disregard the days God gave us as Sabbaths. It is simply saying that, of the days God gave us for Sabbaths, none is above the other. They are ALL the same and ALL just as important. As are holy days and new moons (the moon is what is used to determine the beginning of the month, thus establishing the day for the yearly Sabbaths)
Oh yeah…..remember God’s Holy day The Feast of Tabernacles? Well, let’s take a look at something ALL nations WILL be participating in.
Zech.14
[16] And it shall come to pass, that every one that is left of all the nations which came against Jerusalem shall even go up from year to year to worship the King, the LORD of hosts, and to keep the feast of tabernacles.
[17] And it shall be, that whoso will not come up of all the families of the earth unto Jerusalem to worship the King, the LORD of hosts, even upon them shall be no rain.
[18] And if the family of Egypt go not up, and come not, that have no rain; there shall be the plague, wherewith the LORD will smite the heathen that come not up to keep the feast of tabernacles.
[19] This shall be the punishment of Egypt, and the punishment of all nations that come not up to keep the feast of tabernacles.
Now this speaks of a time during Christ 1000 year rule here on earth. Notice it says that ALL nations shall keep the Feast.
Now if God is going to have ALL nations keep His feast day, what of His Sabbath Day? Do you think the day He said would be observed FOREVER, will be ignored?
Now there will be those that say just the opposite….but study God’s word for yourself…ALL of it, from Gen. to Rev. For God said…
“But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.”
“And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.”
God’s laws were and are for ALL men. Then, now and in the Future!
