If the law is in your most inward parts, how can you commit sin and your conscience tells you it is ok to do it?
You got a get out of jail free card there

Because a false teacher told me it wasn't. I believed him, and it wasn't one of the Ten Commandments I was breaking. The Holy Spirit will finish what He started, but not by day one. Now I know better and that sin is gone. Look at 1 John 1:7. That person is walking in the Spirit, thus cannot sin. And yet, the blood of Jesus is still cleansing him of sin. What type? 1 John 5:16-17 tells us they would be sins NOT unto death. 1 John 3:4 are sins unto death.

Correct, applicable for the genuine believers in Christ Jesus.
J.

The problem I have with Mailmandan’s kind of thinking is that it is overconfidence in one’s salvation.
When push comes to shove, he believes 1 John 1:8 is an excuse to sin on some level.
But the Bible says work out your salvation with fear and trembling (Philippians 2:12).
In other words, why would Jesus and His followers warn us against how certain sins can destroy our souls if salvation was a done deal?
Why does the Bible talk about those who fall away? You cannot fall away from the faith if you never were never saved to begin with.
For being overconfident in anything can mean one’s downfall. I would rather be lowly and humble about my salvation and not be too overconfident.
Yes, I can trust in His grace, but there are terms of conditions of the faith to accessing that grace, though.
Believing and obeying what God desires of me is a part of His plan of salvation. If it isn’t then one can live however they like and lay claim to the keys of Heaven. But salvation doesn’t work like that. Jesus said narrow is the way and FEW be there that find it. I see most justifying sin while under God’s grace as a common theme among most of Christianity today. Some do it more subtly and I am able to recognize when they do so. But why take the chance and risk in being wrong? Is sin really that worth it if one loses their soul?
Jesus told certain believers who did good works in His name to depart from Him because they also worked iniquity (sin), too (Matthew 7:22-23).
I can only imagine the horror of those who believe they could have justified sin in this life because they believe Jesus paid it all (Whereby it gives them a license to sin on some level).

There is only "the Gift of Salvation".........there is no such thing as Initial, or Progressive, or Intermittent.

Salvation is JESUS ON THE CROSS.
He finished it.
Its not "initial"...its DONE......>He said. "IT is FINISHED".
He should know.

Like all gifts in life, they come with responsibilities in order to maintain them. You can receive a free car as a gift, but if you don’t take care of that car or obey the traffic laws, you can end up losing your gift. The Bible speaks the same way about the gift of salvation. It talks about how one can fall from grace. You cannot fall from grace if you never had grace to begin with.

So are you saying behaviors between people are SINS?

Yes, when they are caused by immature fruit of the Spirit. There are many sins on the forums against other forum members. Slander, bearing false witness, hatefulness, lack of self-control, provoking to anger, calling each other derogatory names, etc. These are not sins unto death, they are not sins of lawlessness. They are trespasses. They are the only type of sin mentioned in the Lord's Prayer that are for Christians to pray. "Forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us."

Matthew 6:14-15
14 “For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15 But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

I learned the importance of this type of forgiveness a couple of years ago in the Spirit's functioning of perfecting me. So not only do I obey my conscience, but I search my heart each night to make sure I've forgiven everyone their trespasses against me. But I do try to forgive when it happens, just in case I forget. LOL

We should always do that. If I struggled with forgiveness for any reason I would ask God's help concerning it

But it’s not really necessary to forgive in OSAS or the sin and still be saved camps. They believe you will still be saved. But Jesus says if you do not forgive, the Father will not forgive you (Matthew 6:15). This verse right here refutes the popular sin and still be saved theology in Christendom. You cannot be saved if you are not forgiven. So salvation is conditional. Now, some may say that a true believer will forgive. But then why would Jesus say something like this? It does not matter if an unbeliever were to forgive everyone in the world. They would still be unsaved for not accepting Jesus as their Savior. So Jesus is talking to believers and not unbelievers.

Forget the false teacher. The law is in believers hearts and minds, that's the new covenant. If you rely on someone telling you what is and what is not sin you have serious problems.

Believe it or not. Your conscience can be seared due to believing a lie. That doesn't mean your whole heart is seared, only on that one issue. But no one cannot know the moral laws of the Ten Commandments. Even Cain tried to hide his sin. He felt guilt.

The law is placed in your mind, you in your mind must know what has been placed there. The law in your heart will give you heartfelt conviction of sin when you break it. You get a saviour from sin because the law is within you.
I have to be honest, if you can sin and your conscience tells you it is ok to do it, you do have problems. You said:
''Because a false teacher told me it wasn't. I believed him, and it wasn't one of the Ten Commandments I was breaking.''
With respect, that sounds awful. You do not have an external law you need to reference to know what sin is, the law is within you

I've grown since then, have you? Or were you always perfect?

We all mature, but the law is placed within you at conversion. And while we are on the subject. If the law is in your heart, you in your heart want to obey it. Why do you think believers get a righteousness apart from obeying the law? Instead of suggesting those who believe it seek a licence to sin/ignore God's laws, start discerning what it actually means to have the law within you. Stop just reciting the letter, consider the implications of it

Can you write out what that Law is that is written in our heart?

You will be surprised how many here on this forum promulgate sinless perfectionism, the genuine Christians, I believe, do not live in a state of habitual sinning as do unbelievers, but do commit acts of daily sinning, missing the mark.
Here I am in agreement with Robert.
J.

The problem with this kind of thinking is that what does “missing the mark” mean?
It could be porn, theft, or whatever a person wants it to mean.
In short, it is a justification of evil while under God’s grace and is no different than justifying lots of sin (like unbelievers).

Remember, it only took one sin for the Fall to happen.

I hear what you say..but..

Christians do sin but we have an Advocate with the Father, we are clothed with the garments of salvation and His righteousness.

Do we have a free license to sin? Of course not!
Do I take my sins lightly? I need to confess my short comings on a daily basis since none are perfect yet.
I don't think mailman sins freely and habitually or any believer in Christ.
Would you say the sinful nature is somehow surgically removed from the believer?
J.
