I think it's something you do with your whole self. With "all your heart, mind, soul, and strength".

If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. (2 Chronicles 7:14)

I see humility, prayer, and repentance grouped with "seeking God's face".

Usually for me, seeking His face involves pouring out all that is within me, unto Him ....entering into a place of surrender, and worship ....and then to a place that is heart to heart communion, and where He can speak to me and I can hear Him.

This verse came to mind:
1Co 13:12
For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.

I think seeking God's face is seeing his resemblance in ourselves. His image and likeness in us and through us.

Jhn 14:7
If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also: and from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him.
Jhn 14:9
Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Shew us the Father?

It's not the facial or body features that we seek but the character of who God is and to replicate that character in ourselves.
So when we look in the mirror we can see his face through us by our love and our actions towards others.

Then we will know him even as we ourselves are known, which is Christ in you.

When we look in the mirror we see all our imperfections, all or faults, this is looking though the glass darkly because we don't always see the light within us that God sees. But when we shall see him...

1Jo 3:2
Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.

I believe we shall see in that mirror the Lord looking back at us through our own face, not the features but his character in us.
One day we will see the perfection God sees in us through our imperfections.
Seek his face in your own.

Just thinking..
Hugs

Is seeking God's face only done when we pray? I'd like to see explanations on what seeking God's face is.
To me this is a matter of holding myself still, mind quiet and ready, determined to not move until I know His will, His desire for me. Like the master who directs his servant with his eye, I'm looking for that flick of the eye that tells me what I need to know, to do, to change, or whatever it is.

Praying and meditating on the Scriptures, and knowing that I need His leading, I need to be close to Him, I need Him. I need His countenance to become mine.

Much love!

I like that. The free man is God's slave. And the slave is free in Christ.

I believe God still speaks to us but we often need to be quiet and listen by faith.

Euphemism for squaring up with what is true. The etymology of the phrase is akin to saying something to someone to their face or looking them in the eye. Its intimate. It's true. It's courageous.

Facing unpleasant truth is not easy. God can give us the courage if we are brave enough to face the truth. One example is to confront ones own faults.

He does speak to us; and because we are all unique he may speak in a different way to each one of us. But we do have to be alert, still and quiet to hear what he says. He can speak to us through dreams or from nature, he can speak to us through the words on a page or spoken by another person and obviously he can speak to us through our bibles. And he can speak directly into our spirits which I think is the best of all as it is so wonderful that the God of Creation shares his thoughts with us.

God's face is Jesus. That's the long and the short of it.

This will probably be dismissed because Jesus is sort of seen as a piece of candy which you suck for a while, get a fix and then go on because he's not considered the main meal.
Problem is, not having an idea what the main meal looks like or consists of adds to the dilemma. Insult to injury is added to the 'believer' because Jesus reality is not thought worthy of further enquiry.

Who ever imagined the Messiah would be born of a teenager and raised in a backwater village?
Who ever imagined the Creator of the vast Cosmos would get around as a child and in diapers and who ever thought that his mother would be viewed as a tart.....with its stigma reflecting on Jesus?
Yet God chose to reveal his Glory not n a wiz-bang show of Earthly status and power which men expect for it impresses them but through the humble reality of the incarnation.
.....and in Pauls words, God choose the weak things to bring to nothing the strong.....

To me, Jesus is holy and to be respected and to have reverence towards.

1co 13:12For now we see through a glass, darkly; but THEN face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.
If a person in now seeing things through darkened glass, how does he approach and attain to that THEN?
What does Jesus tell us to do?

Mt 6:33But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
Mt 7:7Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:
Mt 7:8For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.
